  • Disruptive Innovation theory observes how new innovations create a new market and a new value network, which in turn disrupts an existing market. What often happens with companies that stay too close to their existing customers and invest aggressively to retain them, rather than investing to serve the needs of their future customers.

This video is prophetic for 3D printers. 7 years since it was posted and the current quality for cost is absolutely unreal.

“Summary: Disruptive Innovation: Why market leaders fail. In this animated video Prof. Robert Perrons explains Prof. Clayton Christensen´s Theory of Disruptive Technologies an d how such phenomena can cause market leaders to fail (even when they seem to do everything rigth).”
Some people may think that the "Disruptive Innovation" is an issue that must be alert to prevent companies as in the case of Kodak and other companies, they were taken off the market. But it is not so, if for example if you were the best operator in the world, when telephone operators needed to make long distance calls, and you realized that was developing a technology that would replace you surely could have done something to make this "Innovation disruptive "wont take you by surprise.

I think the crucial point is, that 99.9 % innovations turn out to be garbage. After all the old company could easily do it under a different brand. But most of the time, this investment turns out to be wrong and running after every innovation would ruin their business.

We have developed IP in innovation. One aspect in developing a strategy for innovation in an organisation is to look at the external environment especially when technology is rapidly changing the business paradigms. This along with developing strategies for people, process and product is the cornerstone of building a sustainable innovation culture and business process that will ensure business continuity. • @Pierre_Nu

johnieX partly correct. More often it addresses a job to be done for a previously underserved or undiscovered market. It may be cheap initially or quality not be great but it serves the missing job to be done in that market - enough initially to make a modest initial profit within a shortish period

@@Pierre_Nu yeah I think it's all about the market if its underserved or not. I found this Jobs to be done growth matrix very useful - great explaination from Mr Ulwick ruclips.net/video/6fk_YIDckNo/видео.html

True sir, Elon Musk will disrupt entire mobility in less than next 5-10 years.
      With Tesla ... automobile,
      spacex ... rockets,
      Hyperloop.... trains,
and with self driving car AI Cloud Ecosystem ... they can manage water, mining, military, agri. , transport n road passenger vehicles.
Self-Driving AI is going to be like Android for phone and will convert Automobiles into New Smartphones :)
