Very thoughtful. I have kids who like food ASMR and I'm so repulsed by it. Doesn't matter how attractive the person eating is, how white the teeth are, how beautiful the lipstick. Those sounds ... ugh.
You can skip the soaking in water part and throw the dry soy curls into a saucepan with your marinade and cook it until it absorbs all the liquid (Just remember to add some water to soften the soy curls as well). The benefit of this is The flavoring gets absorbed completely into the soy curl since you're not having to expel any water to replace with flavoring. The other benefit of this method is that you can just empty it right out onto the baking sheet without really having to touch the spongy slimy wet soy curls. Just move them around with a spatula to get them in position and bake like normal.
@@ekohw You could, but it's totally unnecessary. Why would you wait to marinade it when you can just cook it directly? When you throw the dry soy curls in a pan with your flavoring liquid, it's going to absorb the liquid to rehydrate it and also reduce the liquid to create a super flavorful sauce that coats the soy curls. There's no reason to marinade it before cooking.
I love soy curls. I have found they can be used in stews directly thrown in dry. I did a kimchi jjigae stew recipe that turned out great. And tonight fir dinner I used them in an Irish stew. Yum.
the Worcestershire pronunciation cracked me up so much, my advice, as an English person, would be to break it us like "wuh-stuh-shuh", because apparently that's how we say words hahahah
This is so confusing to me, I live in central EU and theres different versions of this product (curls, cubes, mince etc.) but it's all made with defatted soy 😂
i'm going to make this with soya chunks instead (it's basically the same thing, but it's more of a cubed chicken shape) because they're a little easier to find in the UK- you can buy them in Holland and Barrett for £3.75 for 500g dry weight. i'm very excited because all of your recipes seem fantastic that i've tried so far!
I buy my Soy Curls in bulk too. I soak my Soy Curls in a good sized container with a lid. I soak for 5 min, flip the container and soak for another 5. After draining and squeezing I park the container of Soy Curls in the fridge. That way I have Soy Curls ready to go. I am going to have to try my hand at jerky. I have do a Korean flavored barbecue sauce for my Soy Curls that I cook my air fryer. I bet if I did that with some slight modifications it would work for jerky. It might not need modification. Here is the sauce. BBQ sauce of choice, soy sauce, sesame oil, gochujang (or Ssamjang). You can add some sweetener if needed. You can also add things like garlic, ginger etc. It's super tasty.
Just an fyi for anyone not shopping at kroger Worcestershire sauce traditionally has anchovies in it, if you don’t want fish in your sauce they do have vegan alternatives by Wizard and Annie brands on amazon.
"If you ain't bulk buying soy curls are you really vegan". Me a vegan for nearly 5 years: "what's a soy curl?" 🤣🤣 I'm guessing this is an American thing?
To be fair, I have never seen them in a grocery store myself. I learned about them online and order them from Amazon. So it's not like you missed something obvious!
No curls where I live either. There are a kind of dried soy patties that are sort of spongy when you soak them, and granules that are of the same material. I haven't eaten them even once since I became vegan. That's how yummy they are 🙄 Beans, tofu, lentils are a lot better, but now I'm wishing someone would show how to make the curls from scratch at home if possible.
Top tip for avoiding saying "Worcestershire" - most people in the UK just call it wooster (woo as in wood + stuh) sauce 😂 we don't have time for all those syllables
Could you share a TVP recipe? Would this work for that? I have had TVP for ages and honestly have no idea how to work with it. Didn't help that the first time I rehydrated it reminded me of dog food.
Idk what those first two pronunciations were. The last one is right though, according to my New England-based pronunciation, which is informed by the city of Worcester in MA (I know the sauce is from England, but the American pronunciation of Worcester is "wuss-ter," [or "wuss-tah" when considering the NE accent] and add "sure" at the end).
Ooohh, that looks interesting! Would you say it would work to soak them in the liquid mixture instead of water to have even more flavour? I have recently really got into my mock meats so will try this! Thanks for sharing.
We LOVE soy curls OMG yes but in bulk lol. My husband has been sending me some jerky recipes lol I gotta get these going yum. I'm TRYING to like tvp.... But I've struggled with that relationship for years lol
They make vegan worcester sauce. On a vegan channel, it'd be annoying clarifying every time you talk about something that also has a non vegan version. It's just normal to me when I talk to my (omni) partner to get the butter out. He knows I don't mean cow butter. It goes unsaid.

Nice, also, plant meat can't replace normal meat entirely, this is because of the problem of the overpopulation of livestock, especially chickens and cows.
I've thought about buying them in bulk, but I need to convince my omni partner how $50 of soy curls is a good idea 😂 I'm obsessed with them, and I love that they're local!

and not a single recipe for kale seitan

How long do they keep refrigerated before going bad?

Isn’t Worcestershire sauce made from anchovies?
The shipping cost to Ireland makes the soy curls extortionate.
