  • Director Edward James Olmos directs and stars in this movie about the origins of the Mexican Mafia in the California prison system. This movie caused a lot of outrage from the Mexican Mafia, as they felt the homosexual rape scenes were way out of line. Several of the consultants reportedly were murdered after this movies release. I gotta admit Olmos dug deep into many issues within the Latino community. Siskel suggests it's the Latino equivalent to Boyz in the Hood. Tough, but important to watch.

Love the scene of them shaking down the Italians. It just shows the power the Hispanics have over the west coast. The Italians have never been able to run anything in the southwest because of them

Most Italians left the culture of crime and gangs when the hispanics began forming their gangs. In addition, their population are small on the West Coast, but in New York and east coast the Italians have the upper hand

@@Co-nm8ntItalians never really ran the West Coast the oldest organized crime groups in California were the Chinese the tong association and the Hispanic gangs that began in the early 1900s.

The EME gave Edward the green light because of the rape scene . No one in the EME has ever been raped and you can't be homosexual .

How do you know? Tons of EME guys did time in multiple prisons. How can you honestly say that not one single one was raped or involved in homosexuality? I understand it was against the rules but I am more than sure some of these guys broke the rules.

Remember the scene when he brings his brother in? If the brother did something wrong, the one who brought him in had to take him out.
