How did Paul Pogba DESTROY his career?

  • Paul Pogba could have become a Manchester United or Juventus legend if he wanted. Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Massimiliano Allegri have all believed in his talent. His status could very well match his once teammates, Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Andrea Pirlo, or Gianluigi Buffon. But apart from the national team and a few years in Juventus, nothing seemed to click for the Frenchman. Now looking straight to the demise of his career, Pogba is already being called the biggest wasted talent.

To call him a "wasted talent" is a bit strong. He had the highest transfer fee in the world for a while. Was having a weekly salary higher than Messi, played for 2 iconic clubs twice, scored a goal in the World cup final 2018 against Croatia, and lifted the World Cup. He's made football history.

I won't argue about Raiola, you're dead right there, but Pogba himself did a lot to turn the Utd fans against him. He didn't work anything like hard enough and consequently became inconsistent, and often appeared to be taking little interest in the game, and just coasting. And when United fans saw him playing at the top of his game wearing the blue shirt of France, they became exasperated, why couldn't he play like that for them?

When I watched France's games at EURO 2016, I was paying some attention to him since there were noises coming out of Italy about this kid who snubbed Fergie back then. He was nothing special to me - a lot of flashy moves, not always making the most effective decisions, rather lazy at tracking back, and needs too much freedom from tactical discipline. And that was a time when he was supposedly at his peak concurrently at both club and country level. Rather shocked to see him move to United a month later and never expected him to hit any great heights, let alone stay at those heights.
True enough, as Mourinho said long after he was sack by United: watch certain players and where they will be in a few years, if they will even play.

Pogba's charismatic and eccentric character couldn't keep up with his physical shape, his play style was very physical being a box to box midfielder with some of the best foot work and dribbling abilities. I don't think falling short of expectations for United means much because just about every single signing United has signed since Martial signing hasn't quite lived up to expectations or the sort of demands the club wanted. Pogba is a victim of his own success which caused issues all around him, entourage, family and club. I hope he heals up and comes back, although I'm sure the ban will be the death knell for him, hopefully he can have it shortened, but sadly it will probably be too late for him and France has moved on without him which is a real damn shame.

His worst mistake is going against Mourinho. He knew exactly what he was talking about and what he said about Pogba, although a bit harsh, is 100% correct. Pogba should have just listened to the man and matured up. Ofc the things in his personal life was bad, thats where is his football career actually started free falling.

His character wasn’t an issue. Some of the world’s best players have worse characters (*cough*CR7*cough*) and honestly, he’s one of the friendliest and nicest players ever seen if you followed his exposed social life. What sabotaged his career were his negative entourage (sleazy siblings and agent) and injury-ridden body which never allowed him to maximize his potential/longevity.

Pogba is opposite of Balotelli because Balotelli can't fully utilize potential from constant problem relate to his background like child abandonment, racism which prevent him to be mature man, but Pogba is rather to be good player but act lazy as he thinks everything run around him or above average player who have great teammate to make him look good and overrated than his real performance.
Put unmature man (which caused by his family and society) to compare with unprofessional football player a little bit unfair.
(For Pogba depression, I would say it somehow impact him but you can cure from that with doctor support, but Balotelli didn't have those choice at all and his problem more complicated than podga.)

I didn't follow his career when he went back to England but he then became a World Cup Winner, scoring in the final. We also have to remember that Man U wasn't exactly a great team during his time there (nor have they ever been a great team since Sir Alex), you can't expect him to perform miracles.
