    The way you looked into the camera exasperated and said "yes I know I'm a queen fan..." cracked me up. It was cool to see you so excited and enjoying it. I think a lot of the critique of digital modeling is because people dont take the time to learn how to tweak them for their guitar and proper gain staging into your interface. I use an apollo x8 hi-z input and if I run in with an external color sound powerboost pedal into the guitar rig hi watt can get gilmour tones with the finger sensitivity you want or with the jhs clover pedal into the native instruments guitar rig ac30 can get spot on u2 tones... but even better is to be able to split and make really unique tones which are my own. I split my input and use the uad fender tweed on one and the other into guitar rig split vox/orange combo and get a sound which blows my mind... I do route it back out to an amp within radial camp if i need in the room feedback for a song.

    I knew, once I heard that Brian actually worked with them on this, that it would be awesome. Brian is a perfectionist, and has said that "if something is worth doing, it's worth doing right". So I knew he wouldn't have endorced, and put his name on this, if it wasn't up to his expectations.

    So totally true: over the years I’ve only learned a few Queen licks. It is exactly like you said, like almost off limits. Like you, I have worshiped at the alter that is Queen. When I was a teenager I carried my Queen albums around with me to school in my backpack. It was so not cool to be a Queen freak then. Time really solved that problem though.

    • @AdAstraOnYafro
      @AdAstraOnYafro 4 года назад +1

      This probably isn’t the whole answer but it’s a solid piece of the puzzle. To use an example: Killer Queen solo. It sounds like a typical guitar solo, but it is really 3 separate tracks layered upon each other. Each individual track played alone sound like you said, abstract. So his intelligence is a huge factor. Being able to visualize the outcome of mixing bits of abstraction in a manner that is appealing and cohesive to us as listeners is almost like magic to me It is so far beyond what my monkey brain can do. Of course physics and music theory are very much intertwined and Dr. May has something going on there as well.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  4 года назад +1

      @thereifaceit I'm answering g this before reading Barry's reply, so I may well be repeating his sentiments as well! Brian's playing is obviously very technically well performed, however that is not what most of us love! What we love is incredible understanding of melody! Which is both out by the fact he is also a wonderful songwriter! In fact it could be said that one of biggest the factors of Queen's success was that they all were wonderful writers! Secondly, it's his tone! The creativity in tones is truly wonderful indeed! Brian, I'm sure with the cooperation and talents of great Engineering and Production created amazing layers of guitars!

    The thing that stands out most as you were mentioning is that all these tones are completely different! And as a big Queen fan also I never realize what effect is in there or what particular tone sounds like because you know, the song has always been like that. In the moment you see these presets you have a realization moment: there is a phaser in "Don't stop me now", I knew it, I always heard it but it blends so better that I forgot about it!

    Regarding what you mentioned about wanting to learn all of Brian May's parts for Queen's songs...
    Years ago I had the most horrible epiphany! I realized that once I learned songs by my favorite artists,
    they no longer seemed to have the same magic anymore.
    Sure, they were all still wonderful and great, and I still loved them all, but the MYSTERY was gone!
    I could never think of them the same way again.
    There's something to be said for NOT knowing how to play a song!
    Now I only figure out songs I love, if I fully plan to actually play them.

    This was a great marketing decision by IK Multimedia, to get Brian May to work with them to create his plug in for Amplitube. I don't think there is any tone that more guitarist want to emulate than Brian's. I'm willing to bet that many decided to get the program just so they could get the BM plug in. Given the fact that it's the only one that Brian endorces, as far as I know. It certainly makes me want to get it.

    I have a '95 PRS Custom 24 with the original 5-way rotary switch. With the middle setting, the pickups (outside coils) are in series, a la the BMG. I got a KAT Fryer Treble Booster Plus (modeled after his 70s/80s booster) in advance of my own BMG. When I plugged the Custom 24 into a PRS Custom 20 amp (5881 tubes) with the Treble Booster Plus, I couldn't believe how authentic the Brian May sound was, despite the amp/tube/guitar amp combination. The treble booster is just as integral a part of signal chain for Brian May's sound as the AC30, the Red Special and the sixpence.

    When I got the Brian May promotional e-mail from IK the other week, I instantly thought of you, Warren, and imagined you jumping up and down like a kid on Xmas. Will you ever use another amp sim again after this one?
    When you first started scrolling through the collections and I saw "Tie Your Mother Down" in the list, I thought to myself, "Go to that one! Go to that one!" And you did.
    Too bad this one isn't an option in the "group buy", but then it is new. Maybe next year.

    Brian’s Killer Queen tone is easy enough to emulate simply with a wah pedal fixed at the right frequency. May not be 100% precise to the well trained ear, but defensively close enough.

    Great job as always warren ! Could you make a video about editing i mean real editing that's really the one course that people need i mean it's seems like it's an industry secret i don't talk about beat detective or elastic audio but more like when you slice waveforms manually to the grid ! That's would be really interesting to have a real lesson on that subject... I ask you that because i had a drum part with some 1/16th swing and different tempos on it and it was a nightmare to edit actually... So i hired a pro "Editor" do it and the result were fantastic,I really like to learn those "Nashville" Pocketing, Editing, Chopping techniques... and it seems that you do it to, When i see your waveform into pro tools they look in harmony with each others. There's NO A SINGLE ADVANCED VIDEO on that subject ! You're the only one who could do it ! Please Warren !! Btw I'm still waiting the Tchad blake masterclass Haha.

    Very nice !!!,,, Warren, who else used the mid pushed guitar tones, that developed a very distinct tone, making a very famous RocknRoll Band that went number #1? Hint: he also could be considered the first home recording artist, that wrote the songs, recorded and produced to tape, the famous album in his basement.

    id like to hear it in context with bass and drums. it now gives anyone instant Brian May... i think one neds to also lean to make it their own ... not just copying others.. if youre in a Queen cover band - well yeah - a no brainer. would be cool to set up a rig with a vox, treble booster, wah, etc - and compare it to IK. of course IKs presets make it easy and quick which is important for any home studio these days great job!!!
