wow , $20 US ? that is awesome deal . They are well built . So I'm sure you will get many many years of enjoyment out if it. I wish I found deals like that at train shows .. - Regards, Anthony
Nice work! Rivarossi is by far my favorite make of HO engines. That looks like a great example of one too! Please feature more Rivarossi if you can these are amazing to watch!
Hi thank you for the comment ... I have a few Rivarossi's to service and run .. The next one I need to work on is the Rivarossi Pere Marquette 1222 2-8-4 .. Thanks and stay safe .. Regards, Anthony .

Hi David , Thank you for the kind words .. I do have a Rivarossi 8-4-2 berkshire to service as well. Will be working on that soon . Also working on my own DC Throttle controller .. to run these vintage locos ... Thanks - Regards, - Anthony .
Well done . Great all the way around on how to handle the job correctly with meticulous detail . Ever run a current draw or a stall test on that motor to see what it draws? Just Curious what it should be with the way you refurbished it properly .I have a old version of the cab forward with the ball bearing motor that had to never run right from the day it was made since they soldered the brush spring to its mounting post where the wire is soldered also .It took away all spring tension to the brush .Basically like a brass wire holding the brush from falling out .That loose. Looks all original factory solder.
Thanks Adam , Appreciate the kind words . you bring up a good point . i have never run a stall test to check the current draw on these motors . Never thought of doing that .. The Cab forward is a beautiful loco. That is one loco that i do not have . That is really weird that they solder the brush spring to the mounting post where the wire is . Have you seen any one elses Cab forward to compare ? If I do come across a Cab forward, i will take a look . very strange setup ...
I have been doing dcc installs for a long time now and learned that draw test is critical if you want dcc to work .They have to be under the decoders rating with some cushion..As for the brush spring it just looks like they allowed the solder to run into the coils of the brush spring no longer allowing it to be a spring any more .Has to be able to twist to hold pressure on the brush. The solder prevented that since it ran through the center of the coils completely. @@anthonyshobbycorner
Hi Danny , You Sat in a Cab of Y6B ? wow .. that must have been an awesome experience .. I can only imagine how huge they are in real life . The model that you have ( which is 52 years old ) , is that a Rivarossi as well ? and do you run it from time to time ? - Regards, Anthony -
@@anthonyshobbycorner I think Rivarossi actually made them for AHM. That sort of stuff, happened a lot, back then. Atlas/ Kato.... Tyco/Mehano ,,,etc . Pretty sure, you will find they are the same loco, just branded under different names.

need less volume on the background music and more volume on your voice great video found out the had way taking that motor apart i was lucky i had another one that had same type of bearings i stole one of the balls from then found it a week later
Hi Norman , I can totally relate ..lol ... We all at some point got that "deer in the headlights" look on our face when we opened our first Rivarossi motor and saw those ball bearings fly across the table and onto the floor ... The 1st time I opened one , i was lucky , because it had the loco sitting on a cloth and the ball bearings kinda sat on the cloth without running across the table etc ... Thanks for the tip on the Level of the music .. I will reduce that moving forward .. - Regards, - Anthony .
Hey Doug , Sorry about that . I got a lot of feedback on the music , unfortunately it was too loud. Since then I have rectified the issue. Regards, Anthony.
Hi James , I realized that only after I published the vid. Appreciate the feedback . I have reduced the level of the background music in my recent vid's .
yeah , this is an issue .. I have not done any modifications to the draw bar power transfer mechanism .. So far , the factor setup seems to work fine , but I do understand what you are talking about .. I also have been thinking of how to better improve that single point of failure where the puny spring wire that pushes against the pin from the Tender is not the most efficient method to transfer power .
I know this is an old post. I have 2 of them and I installed pick ups on the right side of the engine, and hard wired the tender. It took trial and error with the pick ups but man, it runs better than ever. Toots.

Actually the Y6Bs and most all of N&Ws steam locomotives were built in Roanoke Virginia by N&W employees
can you do one for a 2-8-2 if possible
Would have liked to hear you but on to another site

Is there supposed to be small ball bearings on both sides? and how many should there be?
If i recall , one end takes 6 ball bearings, and the other end takes 9 .
Lose the 'background music' when you are talking. It's very hard to understand your voice.
