After a little digging it looks like your food theory holds water. From what I read as of December 2022 a gentleman by the name of Cory York became the new executive chef at WDW Magic Kingdom. I think you might be on to something with the correlation of menu changes with a new head to the culinary department at Magic Kingdom. Thanks for another great episode.

It’s my first time tuning in for one of these, but I knew I had to watch. This is more important than any problem facing the parks
As native of Louisiana I can say without a doubt that gumbo (be it seafood based, or poultry and sausage based) is always served as a "soup" over a little bit of rice. You never put sausage in seafood gumbo. Serve with a side of potato salad, crackers/garlic bread and Gumbo File (ground sassafras root) is optional. Okra is also optional, but most real "gumbos" contain okra (If you know you know).

When they got rid of the Mickey-roni and Cheese at The Land 20 years ago, I hit my breaking point and I never got over it. Its loss is a travesty to this day, there has been no other mac n cheese like it since

Been saying this to my friends since 2000. The place has become a giant bakery and carnival food wise. Over priced fair food, with no reason to charge those prices.
Yes! Grains/sugar are cheap and able to be molded into shapes.
@@SandraLovesRoses you're absolutely right. It's all about maximizing profits and just turning the consumer into what they are to do : just keep consuming awful food. It's a bad trend and one I wish folks would wisen up to. I'm not saying all Disney food is awful, but the majority of it is Cisco frozen garbage. There was a time where Disney were the leaders in many theme park sectors. That's far from the case especially in the US parks.

Sounds like Disney finally figured out the correct ratio of powdered sugar to beignets. In New Orleans, they’re always served with a heaping pile of powdered sugar. Now, don’t get me started on serving fries with gumbo…..
To your question about proper rice/gumbo ratio, most upscale restaurants will serve gumbo in a large bowl with about 1 cup of rice and the gumbo filling the rest of the bowl. But in peoples’ homes, it’s all personal preference. Personally, I like more rice in my gumbo than I generally get in a restaurant.

So as someone who lives in south louisiana, I can educate yall on gumbo! I live 30 miles south west of New Orleans in "Cajun Country". Cajun style gumbo is more like a soup over rice. New Orleans is Creole. Creole style gumbo is way thicker, like stew, served over rice. Never heard of this sweet potato fry thing anywhere🤣 we dont do that lol

Talking about Epcot fireworks reminded me of a question I had from my last trip to Epcot. I was walking to the china pavilion to meet my family so we can go to dinner and while I entered china, in the distance I heard the illuminations post show music. Not promise but the one that I think is from the tapestry of nations and the millennium celebration. I love that music and it caught me completely off guard so hopefully someone is able to track down where and why it played. I’ve been completely out of luck
Mickey sugar cookies! My son loved getting the ones that had red icing as Mickey’s pants and then sitting in the little alcove on Main Street when we would go to magic kingdom. All the sugar cookies were pineapple flavored when we went in March

The best things on property?! Ummmm everything at RIVIERA! 🥰🥰🥰 the grilled chicken sandwich dipped in the tomato soup is heaven!
The OG chicken waffle sandwich also came with house made chips which really turned it into a meal.

Guys the vandal in the culinary group at Disney is the dining plan. That coupled with inflation of food prices has made this necessary. They waffles at Sleepy Hollow weren’t removed, just downgraded. Like Blogmickey called Tiana’s: it’s a downgrade but a necessary one
When eating Mama Melrose recently the quality definitely gone down and the steak wasn't as great. Even the manager said the quality as gone down as they got a new menu two months ago and Disney is getting rid of a lot of food. Also, said that the value resorts are all getting generic food and nothing that separates them. All about saving a buck to make the upper management rich.
I forget the formal title for it, but that bacon on a stick from the stand in frontierland. IDK how popular it is, but its one of my favorites and seems very expendable.
If Disney cuts its spending on cruise business and meaningless shows saves those budgets, they don't have to cut back on food and entertainment in the parks. To this day, I don't get why Disney spends so much on a business that is bleeding money. Disney is not a cruise company and never should be.
Why are they doing this ? Just to pi** us off. Really mad about the sleepy hollow waffle and Nutella. The new one doesn’t combine berries with Nutella

Another great podcast from Eric and Nick! I really miss the breakfast service at Boatwrights it was incredible! For the bingo card I have 2 items. First The Heritage, and second a drink at Territory Lounge the Timeless Elias. 2 others that I miss are the Lobster bisque at Chef's de France and the Clam chowder in bread bowl at Columbia Harbor House.

50:05 While I agree with Eric, I think the changes are also caused by cost cutting Disney has been doing. The last time I was at the Florida parks was in April 2023. We went to my favorite restaurant, 50s Prime Time, and ordered the pot roast, my favorite dish there. The meat was shedded in long, thin, and chewy, strips. It was terrible meat quality. Others in my group ordered it as well and they had the same problems. I was so disappointed. The quality of that dish had plummeted.
My, “Why the hell did you take this away”’item is the Wontons from Sunshine Tree Terrace. I only very recently found that snack item, had them a few times and they disappeared! They were a great snack option and very reasonably priced
I think Dole Whip is untouchable
We also heard Columbia Harbour House got rid of their fish sandwich. I just had one in April and it was delicious!
For the bingo card, carrot cake cookie at Hollywood Studios. They of course have changed it but at least it’s still there. But for how long? 🤷♀️
They serve the handwich at cars land still. It’s at the cozy cone. They have like 3 different flavors. It slaps.
They have been doing it since 2020. Take away the favorites and give smaller portions of lower quality food.
Disney needs to slow down on changes, like if it's working do not fix it motto a VP or Director needs to put down. There micro managing everything down to a potato serving.

my husband always gets a turkey leg but is upset that it is not as good nor as big as it used to be. He finds it way to salty and often times dry now. They changed the choco smash candy bar out for cake (at pym's in Disneyland) which I am very upset about, we would always get it a couple of times a trip.
Yes - they are using Mickey waffles now and funnel cake and not making special waffles for this place. Seems to me they are using the place to “use up” the batters.
Saana killed the bread service for me. Cost went up 120% in 10 years!
Speaking of Gertie's and food talk - has anyone else noticed they not put HALF the amount of ice cream in the waffle cone as they used to? I was shocked last year when they handed me a cone that has half the size from the previous year I was there. it was literally a one bite $6 cone of ice cream ;-(
I'm against the Turkey legs. I'd be sad if they got rid of the Grey stuff, or Cinnabon at Gastons.

Donut at jofferys, mini carrot cake cupcakes at Hollywood and vine are so fresh and amazing, jack jack nom nom cookie, brisket sandwich woodies lunchbox, sour cream waffle Topolinos, everything at CRT is incredible, hotdogs at satuli canteen (sorry it’s so much better than the cheeseburger pod), Cheshire cat tail, tropical serenade

It seems like Disney looked at certain food items that sell a lot but could use some cost cutting. Reworking things like the waffle items allows for a smaller portion while pushing a more Instagramable look. Foodi industry is beyond fickle. Although we lover our favorites. introducing new items tries to increase interest.
Geyser Point disappointed us and they got rid of the loaded chips at the Fort Wilderness pool. That was our go to there. Now we don’t buy any food at the pool. We no have to go to the Poly to get the loaded chips.

I was at Casey's Corner sitting a table right at the fence. A family pushed their way between my table/chair and the fence - I kindly asked them to move - surprisingly they did but dang, people are so rude!! I will tell people in front of me to put their phones down - I pay a lot of money to watch the fireworks - just enjoy it - it there are LOTS of videos online!
Oh man, my husband is a die-hard turkey leg lover. Get rid of that and he may not go back to WDW with me….
Disney ruined the Crews Cup lounge at the Yacht Club. Menu is terrible. Where's the great burger they had? All salads and soup now. Who wants to eat there?
I was kinda disappointment by the Lumpia in Pandora when I was there in January. It sounded so good, but was so... bland.
Maybe for the predictions you can do donate a 1$ and it goes towards the toy event for Christmas you have every year and that way bam paywall but still legal bc its for charity. I know were i work we can gift stuff under the value of 35 dollars before it has to be reported to the irs...just saying
In December 2021 we went to WDW for The Most Magical Celebration on Earth ie the 50th anniversary. Overall we found the "celebration" to be extremely underwhelming.
The brightest spot for me was all the menus featuring Walt Disney's favorite dishes. I'm from the Midwest like Walt so I immediately bonded with his food choices. I wanted them to keep those menus permanently.
Never understood a turkey leg anywhere. And all too often the people shove them in the bushes while in line. People are pigs any more
As a former category director at Disney's primary food supplier I can appreciate why they make changes. It is likely to have as much to do with supplying the massive volume needed, at the quality they want, as price. And yes I did bring Topo Chico into our portfolio. It's owned by ARCA Intl, a Coke bottler from Mexico. Topo is as good a naturally flowing spring water with natural bubbles as any product in the world.
Your so full of it, it's funny. No way they doing quality it is all about price how cheap they get stuff and get away from it. Even someone working at Disney told me generic food coming to the value resorts. Ur a former employee no need to keep kissing their ass and trying to make excuses. They are cheap bastards, simple as that and if anyone else thinks other wise needs their heads examined.
