      Self defense against your foe's cars. Tire "slashing" really is more cumbersome than one would imagine. I don't know anyone who could do the deed with a "EDC." such a slashinng motion requires a mini machete blade. Anyone could slash 4 tires as fast as a person takes to buy a pack of cigarettes and a soda by ramrodding such rubber.
      If your attacker is pursuing you and tried to weaponize a vehicle, or say a boat even, you beating him to the docking bay to mount your jetski opens up a dangerous chase, a dangerous game ensues. Hopping on ur 2 wheeler right after cutting someone's line to an anchor/popping their thick semi-truck wheels to deflate after but one piercing is just good self defense. You won't have to pop him, affectively circumventing harm (for her/his sake and your own) and the legal and moral consequences that come it inherently.
      I once saw a kid at this sidewalk sale get dangerously handed a balloon by his taller older brother (of grand girth.) If I hadn't popped that rougue parade balloon that ascended him a good few solid feet in they air, his neglectful parents wouldnn't have evenn noticed until too late. Used my ti-lite. His Karen mother who had a hotdog stand and one in each hand yelled at me, manhandling her kid who was previously untouched (presumably, this was a fare in southern country and he had many an uncle with beer belly displayed, Budweiser brandished as a shuriken weapon as they began to pelt me after the mother, by the throat, pulled him away while I was still staring at the massive balloonn in the sky... it got shot down. Hillybilly armement engaged. I saw a 21 gun salute ensue, pistols in the air like gangsters squeezing off Hail Mary Shots. Was not till this black guy actually took it downn with a shotgun, took em one shot too.
      He hurt their egos, I'll tell you that. Manny a daisy ducked out minors watched the 22 shot show. They yelled at him, the nerve. "Boy, what you doin', I had that." "These two are queer folk, ain't from around here." "Go on, get."
      We both were confused af but walking away we put together that we both were wearing the same red caps and retrospectively talking real close as we both were chatting after the hot dog contest. I came in first, obviously. Was the prior contest where watermelon juice speckled my make a wish foundation shirt and soiled my hat as it fell off my head. Between our Make America Great hats, I suppose we really both did look at of place, this was a very progressive piece of Texas. Anyway, they were just sore we beat them. I got 2nnd in the watermelon contest. Didn't even come close to winning, the guy that did was a clown there/also this dudes brother I come to find out. Actually hung out with em, when he wiped the nose and paint off I was shocked to see his skin so freckled and irish as mine. I took off my eyeliner since we were entering a bar, I'd have kept it on but I'm super single and really forcing myself to get back out their, need to send out the right signs. Anyway, the choke on my beer part was when the other guy wiped the black paint off his face.
      I stood up appalled, I got up out of there. His skin was completely different. It was like when the terminator gets half his face blown up and you see one side revealing the metallic shine of the metal jaw and circuitry.

I gave to my brother in law, he carries it in carhart pants in the side leg pocket he loves it been carrying it about a year now as well. It’s a hell of a knife it can’t be argued other wise.

    Cold steel voyager xl in tanto. Used it for quick heavy use in a pinch. Cutting seatbelts, airbags, whittling notches in saplings to recover hard to reach items, light entry tool. Never used it in anger, but when I whip it out. It immediately engages pucker factor to anyone in the vicinity. Not many knives can do that for you.

  • @flinchfu
    @flinchfu 7 лет назад +31

    May as well carry a full-tanged fixed blade in a sheath at that point. The hinges and mechanisms would have to hold up to all of that obscene weight and force for any heavy application of a knife that size... and you won't fumble as much deploying a fixed blade, so not only would a large full-tang knife be more durable, it would also be more tactically practical in a self-defense scenario.

    • @flinchfu
      @flinchfu 7 лет назад +2

      Also the blade to handle ratio suffers in a large folder because the handle has to cover the cutting edge.

    • @kendon81

    When it comes to work I prefer to carry a large folder knife. For many reasons a large knife has come in handy. When you are working everybody already assumes you have a knife. So when you pull out a big knife they are impressed more than scared. Another reason I carry a big knife is for big jobs. I do a lot of farm work and landscaping, lawn maintenance. I may need to cut some small branches or dig a little bit. I do chopping, cutting, piercing, drilling, digging, carving and even some fine work. I have cut rope, mulch bags, vines, roots, tires, paper, cardboard, wood, plastic, etc. I also like that you can always feel the knife in your pocket when your working. Its good to know where it is when you need it and its easy to not lose it. The only downside to it is the fact that you have to sharpen it often. But I'm a knife lover so I take care of my knives.

    I carry a big knife because 1. it's fun as shit! 2. more reach for defensive purposes. 3. cooking. 4. any hacking or chopping I may have to do. 5. It'll likely scare off anyone you don't want messing with you 6. Also box opening or any smaller chores I may have.

    My vote is the Medford Gigantes! I edc'd a blue one with vulcan-finished D2 blade and laser-engraved celtic knotwork on the display scale. It's pretty small by Espada standards but it's hard to beat the flipping action of the Gigante: it wasn't my first Medford and for good reasons! Greg's D2 holds up so well; it's just the right steel treated with care and nicely ground. The blade shape is functional drop point with the flair of a small harpoon swedge. There is so much leverage at the tall flipper tab that the blade rockets out of the detent and just slams into place! And rock solid build is Greg Medford's middle name-I swear!!! Cheers to all you fellow crazy big knife guys: whether it's just big hands ir big egos, it's all good!

    The Cold Steel TI-LITE 6" is my go-to EDC knife. It is surprisingly carry-able for it's size, and doesn't poke out as much as some of the knives in this video. No one ever comes up to me and asks about it doesn't look out of place in the pocket. The blade is pretty thick for the style of knife that it is, so it can take some abuse. Plus, it has a version that comes in XHP steel, which is a pretty awesome material.

  • @jamespisano1164
    @jamespisano1164 6 лет назад

    I carry the Cold Steel Hold Out 1 for self defense. I like the neutral handle, which allows for several different grips, and the blade length. I like 5" blades best and prefer 4" or longer for self defense. Clearly, you can defend yourself even with a 2" blade, but the longer the blade, the more options you have and different specific lengths can make specific techniques available. I would choose the Gigantes because of the 5" blade and the overall length and neutral handle. The Hold Out 1 is on the cusp of being practical for EDC for self defense partially due to the way they designed the handle. Keep up the entertaining videos!

    I carry the Rajah II for a number of reasons. First, it's just a cool knife. Second, I do a lot of metal detecting that carries me into dense parts of timbers and whatnot. It's nice to have a knife handy that can handle the brush. Third, when I can't carry a firearm into a situation, it's good to have a large knife that can handle cutting through clothes and possibly limbs, if necessary. Protection is primary.

    I carry larger knives because I’m a larger person. I’m 6’5” 230lbs so a larger knife just feels more comfortable in the hand. Also relative to me larger knives don’t look that large until someone asks to use it. I own a ZT0920, a Military, and a couple of full sized griptillians. I just picked up a presidio 2 and love it.

    Idk if you guys carry it, but my personal favorite large EDC knife is the U.L.U. I carry it because it is a strong and durable knife for everything from vegetable chopping to fire making. In my experience, it has a strong edge hold. Plus who doesn't love two locked positions?

    I carry an srk sk5 from cold steel, mainly because its a fixed blade, and secondly because some of the punks in my area also have knifes, but they're like 2-3 inches long, so when you pull out a 10 inch war knife, they usually get intimidated and run off. Its also a great woods knife as I can use it to hunt or chop branches and split wood for a fire.

    I've always carried a knife even when I was young small utility type knives. When I got older and had a kidney transplant I became much weaker. My body went through 20 operations which weakened me quite a bit. And so now I believe in carrying a much more intimidating and larger blade to make up for the fact that my body is more susceptible to damage..

    Discontinued...... However still my "BIG" favorite, Cuda Max, D Ralph design USA made, D2 5.5 blade, titanium handles, deep carry flipper, liner lock, fast, false edge bowie blade, sharp, and light! When I feel I need a large EDC folder this my go to blade, very discrete i pocket....... not so when deployed!

    • @Grodd70
      @Grodd70 4 года назад

      Definitely agree on the points of the Cuda Max. It is big but flat and carries deep and you don't even know your wearing it. Also discontinued that I love is the REKAT Sifu, but heavier the handle is amazing. Newest large EDC I am liking is the Cold Steel Frenzy, it falls into light weight category so its not noticable like some of the others (Rajah, Spyderco Tantanka, Sog Pantagon Elite)

    Living in the UK, we can own most knives other than auto or assists, but we can only carry a sub 3” slipjoint! That being said, I’d love that Italian auto stiletto, but my real favourite would be a huge ADV Butcher. Im 52, but as a youth, back in pre-nanny-state days, I carried an 8” Bowie fixed blade other than at school. It was razor sharp (sharpened by a carpenter friend of mine).

    I have a raja 2. Tried to use it for edc. I deployed it to cut open the plastic from 36 pack of coke from Costco and as I swung it up I stabbed a can. Coke sprayed everywhere. It is just too long to do everyday chores like opening stuff up. Gave it up to my son for self defense (he is not a half bad Arnis player), and use it for chopping wood gardening. I have a smaller edc now.

    I carried a two pound folding hawksbill for a couple of years in a bad part of town back in the sixties. The indigenous denizens favored blades, but whenever I pulled that thing out of my back pocket and flicked it open, their eyes got big and their feet got busy. It had the heft to crash through usual defenses and remove hands or more. When I left the area, I sold it for a hefty amount to a local cop as a back up to his aging .38.

    I just bought a Boker Magnum Colossus off of you guys and with that and the Jumbones out there you may need to do another of these larger then usual folders,I love the Colossus for $45 after shipping is very nicely made.
    As far as carry goes...I've carried every thing from this almost five inch Magnum to small sub two inch blades,why I'm going back to larger and even now bigger then four inch blades is anytime I had the small ones I seemed to find myself saying "dammit!! I wish I had a longer blade!!" So now I'm saying screw it get the biggest thing I can feasibly jam in my pocket and be done with it.....
    I need a smaller blade I always have my folding pliers in my left pocket.

    I carry a somewhat big knife. It is 5 inches. The biggest blade you can have where I live. It is a folding knife. You HAVE to use two hands two open it. It is a locking blade. And I mostly carry it to just know "I have a knife in my pocket" and "I can defend myself If I need too". So basically for self defense

    I carry the spyderco street bowie, I love it. I have also carried cold steel Spartan, the xl espada and several fixed blades like the Kabar marine fighter and gi tanto. Out of all of these and many many more the street bowie is king. Its got a 5 inch blade and weighs less than 4 oz. I carry big knives because big knives do more and if I ever need to fight with a knife big is just better plain and simple.

    The largest folding knife I currently own is the CRKT Ikoma Fossil 5470. It has a blade length of 3.96" (100.6 mm) and a thickness of 0.15" (3.81 mm). I tend to prefer EDC folding knives with blade lengths closer to 3.00" though such as my Mini-Griptilian and Fossil 5460.

    I'm sure like most it's defensive for me. I like a 5" blade but I do sometimes carry a cold steel holdout 1. Currently I enjoy the Spyderco Tatanka or the Cold Steel Voyager Tanto. It's important to me to be able to stop a threat quickly but still be hidden and easy to carry. I have considered a few of the larger cold steel folders but I'm fairly happy. I do like to encourage defensive carry no matter what your preferred size. They often make so much more sense than chancing a gun battle in a crowd or around family and loved ones
