Yes. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's a Contra Bass. The Sub-Contra Bass is even larger. It looks so large because it's straight. Most wind instruments of this pitch are bent around themselves, like a Baritone Sax or Bassoon.

He is tonging hard - it doesn't usually, it's an effect you can do. Occasionally you can hear how it sounds when played clean.
