  • This video is sped up to 4x speed. It is showing the last 22 kilometers from the chain-up pullout with info signs near Heckmann Pass, to the bottom of the hill where the nicely paved highway resumes.
Here's the exact section on Google Maps: www.google.ca/...
The total unpaved section of highway 20 in 2022 is 60km. Unpaved gravel road from Anahim Lake to the bottom of "The Hill". However, it's well maintained and easy to drive even with a two-wheel-drive car like ours. However, I would not attempt this during or after strong rain, or in the winter. For that, I would recommend a four wheel drive with good tires and proper chains (and chains on all four wheels, for that matter). The scariest part of driving this highway is not the hill or the exposed dropoffs. That's just the scenery. The things to look out for are bad or crazy drivers, people towing humongous camping rigs and boats without understanding what they are doing, and big rig trucks of any kind. Since downhill driving vehicles must yield to others coming up the hill, if you ever see a bad hobbyist driver with a long trailer coming down meet a big rig truck going up, and the big rig insists on his right of way, get ready for witnessing a catastrophe. The downhill facing driver is required by law to back up, in case that is needed to accommodate the uphill going truck. If Mr. weekend driver has a hard time backing his boat down the ramp into the lake, imaging the scene of him trying to reverse his rig back up the hill, with a huge canyon on one side, on a roadway that might only be wide enough for one vehicle.
