The eye contact and blinking thing should not be under estimated. 10 years ago or so this is how our rescued cat who was very defensive and fearful learned to trust me. I would be sitting outside and she would walk up and look at me. I simply returned her look and spoke softly to her and she became curious, jumped up on the bench with me and stepped onto my lap inviting me to pet her. After a while, she started wandering into my room and doing the same thing on my bed and we became cuddle buddies. I became her most trusted person in the house by using non verbal cues and always ensuring that I had her permission to pet her

Yes, it works like a charm. I was visiting family some time ago and they had adopted a cat while I was gone. This cat was absolutely terrified of me. But when I got close and did the slow blinking, she hesitantly returned it. From that point on, we became good friends. My family was shocked to see her on my lap the next day.

I love my cat so much. Next to my wife she is the lady of my life. Use to be a dog person until i realized how lovey and loyal a cat can be if you treat them well. My cat is 9 and not the baby kitten who followed me home anymore but I am proud to give her the love she deserves.

@juan abee Oh so your food is brought in on a Tesla semi right?! 😄😆😅🤣😂 I prefer seeing black coal roll from a pair of chrome chimneys blotting out the sun while hearing the symphony of a big Caterpillar or Cummins under the hood! 😁😎 All the while the driver's pet kitty is laid across the dashboard flipping his tail and chill'n knowing he's living his best life. 😺😸😹

@juan abee the black plague is on the rise , last time the idiots killed off the cats and dogs the rat population rose and killed off millions of people.
The vole population in my back yard was controlled by my cats , in my house years ago I saw my cat catch kill and skin inside out a rat in my kitchen in less than three minutes.
The fact that people don't do the bob Barker treatment is the problem, not only cats else ware but also wild dogs
What does a cat provide sanity companionship, love ,something you are incapable of .

We just put our cat down 2 days ago, and it really hurts, mostly because it was a really sudden and unexpected event. It may seem weird, but videos like this really help, because I watch it and I know that she knew we loved her, because we literally did ALL these things. Every. Single. One. When we said goodbye, we were telling her how much we loved her vocally, but we were also using body language to tell her we loved her as well, and this video just reinforces the fact that i know, we know, that she knew that we loved her with everything we had. Thank you for making this.

Cats are wonderful. We grew up always having dogs ( which I adore ) but we found a stray at work and had him 19 wonderful years and we got another kitten about a year later and we just lost her at almost 15 years of age. We still have our other rescue and he’s 13 and my daughter’s kitty came to live with us because she’s going to be doing a couple of years as a traveling nurse. We’re happy to have her with us. They bring lots of joy and make us laugh every day. They’re very spoiled and indoor only and I think that’s one reason they live a nice long age. Never long enough though 💗

I'm sorry your kitty had to leave. I'm reminded of Jesus' advice about the body being a temple. If cared for, it lasts a long time, but care is not enough. There comes a time when it no longer can house the spirit. (I've had to relinquish 3 older ladies since 2020, it always hurts). Adopting a prr-baby after the last one journeyed on helped. She came to me with 5 little surprises! It was kittenland for a while, but also therapeutic. I still have mommy and her girls; all uniquely different. The first-born is a barbarian princess loudly complained at birth, is but easily the most creative/destructive/fearlessly funny, able to change settings just tromping on the keyboard. Stalked a very bewildered wild turkey hen once. All 3 can be SO comforting, all have their personal method of greeting me. Oh the cat stories we could all tell, right?

I have such a soft spot that there are no boundaries on my love for her. It's crazy, I wouldn't change it for the

I love cats. When my Nana and family friend died I was struggling but when my Polyanna died in the same year that was it.
I became extremely bitter. I was working everyday, waking up at ridiculous hours, and only had time for a few pats on the head before I left for work, always in a rush.
I knew her time was nearing. If it wasn't for work and stress I could have had more quality time towards the end.

There are many cats and kittens in shelters who need and deserve someone to love them. Humans live longer than cats. We cannot "replace" a cat when her/his time comes. But we can do something generous and kind for another cat or kitten.

  • @sleepydragonzarinthal3533

Love these kinds of videos, so many simple things to help a cat feel safe and loved at home. The cat I am fostering is super polite but never shy, like when she wants outside, or any kind of attention, she always comes over to me and gently taps my arm with her paw, then when I acknowledge her, she runs to the thing she wants, wet food, treats, outside, brush. She never uses claws even when I am holding her and something scares her, though sometimes she likes to play too rough, but never in anger. When I first got her she would jump in my lap or on the table and stare at me while she taps the edge of my plate, so I started cooking a little extra without seasoning and put it on the side of my plate so when she comes asking, I can turn the pate with her portion in font of her and nudge it to her and she loves it. The bonding of sharing food rather than just pouring it in a bowl is strong. Hand feeding is good for kittens, a parental gesture, but sharing a plate is better for adult cats to see you as more than just a parent. I worried at first she would think she could have any food on my plate, but being so polite she seems aware of what is for her and what isn't, maybe it is just the seasoning. If your cat still tries to take the food for you off the plate, then just set them their own plate next to yours, so there is a more literal boundary. Walking around the neighborhood with my cat is a lot of fun, she leads me to her favorite spots to hang out, hunt, sleep and makes them feel safer while they explore so they can enjoy it more. Even just having a picnic in your own yard while your cat roams around will make them intensely happy and validated. When I have to go out, my cat knows of course, so I make sure to check in with her, see if she wants some brushing, treats, head scratching, nose to nose. She loves the nose to nose, I make sure to breathe in and out because cats do this when they care about someone, it tells her she is important to me even though I can't always be there. She still gets upset when I get ready, but she is always happy when I get back and doesn't act out. The only time she acts out is when I am home and don't let her outside for reasons she doesn't understand like when it's 100 degrees outside or is about to rain, so I'll get her string toys but sometimes she gets too restless and pouts, so I just carry her to her bed by a window, crack it open for her and sing a song. Cats can't understand human communication as well as we understand them, letting them know you understand them at all does wonders for their mental health. It's the extra step of acknowledging them on their terms that makes all the difference.

He loves giving thanks to his meal before i can serve him i mean he literally puts his face straight on to the pet food adores it 2-3 times and goes straight to his bowl of food to be served. He is disciplined he climbs up on the dining table but never comes close to meal laid though I don't make it a habit i gently ask him to get off the table. He loves observing his surroundings by climbing up on heights. He is very curious about strangers e. g plumbers or electricians he won't move until they have left the place in one way showing that "I am there I care for your safety ". I love him immensely.

The part about petting your cat’s tummy, especially if they have long hair, is more important than I realized. Years ago, I had a cat that was really mean. I’d gotten her and a sibling as kittens. They were both raised with love and affection. One was timid and sweet. One was ill tempered and mean. This one was named Pickles. I was the only one who could even pet her, which wasn’t often. One day, I noticed she was not acting normal, for her. She was laying on a chair and when she rolled over exposing her belly, even with her thick fur, I could see a couple of “sores”. I got her into the vet and sadly, as it turned out, my baby had cancer. She had lesions all over her belly. They operated and said the cancer had spider webbed inside her and there was nothing they could do. So I made the painful decision to have her put down. She was already under anesthesia when they called and basically just increased the gas until she passed. I feel so guilty about her possibly suffering before I knew, but she never let me pick her up and certainly never let me touch her belly. Just kind of a heads up for others. Great video. I learned a lot.

A few things I believe you missed. I've always found giving them a good scratching in the spot just above the tail where it meets the back almost always gets a reaction. They purr like crazy and lift the butt. Scratching spots they can't reach usually works. Also when they begin kneading you, making 'biscuits', and you allow it the eyes do that halfway closed dreamlike gaze and they purr like no tomorrow. And if they start drooling? Forget moving. Stay put and they'll sleep there forever.

I have a cat (part of a brother-sister pair that we adopted as kittens), who had always been kind of anti-social. She never wanted to be touched or loved on, and would most usually move away if you tried to approach her. One day, while visiting a friend, our friend introduced us to one of her cats, and told us that her cat liked “butt pats” (gently patting the spot directly in front of the tail).
Upon returning home, I decided to try “butt pats” on our little antisocial kitty. She LOVED it!! Now she is learning to be more affectionate. She spends more time coming close to us, letting us pet her, and being more comfortable in our presence. She has even recently decided that it’s safe to climb onto my lap! I still have to be careful to pick up on her cues, and to not get too greedy with my petting (she’s ok with one hand at a time, but two-handed touching still freaks her out. Lol)
Every cat is different, and each has their own unique and individual personality.

I lived around cats all my life, and I have one potentially controversial thing to add: Cats actually *like* having the tails pulled - but only do it gently, DO NOT YANK it.
Their tails are basically extensions of their spine, and I think a little traction feels good to them the same way it does to someone getting traction applied by a chiropractor. Being a horizontal animal, I think cats spines can get a little weary from the one-sided stress of their weight hanging down from the that top horizontal flexible column. I think their discs can get a little pinched from the stress, and a little gentle pull on the tail makes the vertebrae stretch just a bit and relieve the discs a little. My cat seems to like it, and it gives me an excuse to tease the silly fuzzy thing- because, even though it's only helping-not hurting, I think he still finds it a bit undignified.

We have 2 kitties, and give them lots of attention. Playtime, places to climb and hide. We do many of these suggestions.
They have a lot of toys, but something they like is plain tissue paper, the kind you use for wrapping gifts. We get bundles of tissue paper at the dollar store, laying out flat, 8-10 pieces on top of each layer of paper. The cats like to crunchy sounds and rustling of the pieces of paper.
As far as when the time comes , we lose them,
When they are old and cross the rainbow bridge. It breaks our hearts, but we usually have not waited too long before rescuing - adopting another kitty.
Never replacing our lost kitty, but letting us begin to love and heal, start a new life with new kitty.
We are seniors, and home all the time too.

I'm gone for 8+ hours but only 2x a week so he is around me a lot. He also has his likes food-wise and is pretty stubborn. I've tried to get him to eat some REALLY good foods and he just won't have it, so we have 2 flavors plus dry which I've just started adding beef broth to soften it. THAT was huge, him eating that.
The best thing about being owned by a cat is over the course of their lives they will grow along with us and show more dimensions of their unique personalities. But only if we learn to listen.

I have always noticed her tail movements are slow and shaped like a question mark when she's enjoying the snuggle or if she's not enjoying it as much she will use her tail with more of a harder thud and a whack to tell me to pet better. She loves to be held and petted. I get a lot of meowing at me until I let her curl up with me. I think it's also the warmth she feels from me. But all in all I'd have to say this video pretty much nailed it as far as cat behaviors go. I can see a lot of these things mentioned in my cat and her behaviors.

There's a reason cats are domesticated, they naturally have an affinity with people. If you genuinely love cats you're probably doing most of these things already. A couple of instances where cats have bonded with me because I've saved them from peril.
A few years ago I was lodging at a farm house, there was a violent thunder storm and the farm cat turned up wailing outside my bedroom door. I let her in, she shot under a chair and started purring loudly. I was definitely 'her human' after that - my landlady was only ever condescended with company for the duration of a bowl feed.
More recently, I was walking home, a man was walking his dog and it was going crazy, straining at the leash and barking at something underneath an industrial type dustbin-on-wheels. The old fool somehow found it amusing to impart that he was stood there allowing his dog to terrorise a cat. I sent him on his way and coaxed the cat out with a proffered hand and kissing noises. It was all over me and regularly used to follow me long distances after that. I had to take it back to its yard a few times.

Some cats "lean into" petting more than others. If you're attentive to details in general, you quickly learn where they like the most to be pet and you get a "sixth sense" about it.
And yes, the blinking is real. I mean... it even works between humans more or less.
The only thing I regret not learning more about was tail language, although it never gave me problems because I saw or heard all the other signs.
The tail is perhaps the most telling in body language and state of mind across _all_ feline species.
Puffed, twitching, flicking, curved, "wagging", low, straight.... they all mean different things

My kitties both sleep on my bed between my legs or even on me. They love to snuggle up with me at night

Reading this with the 11 year old cat on top of the doona curled up between my knees, and the 1 year old under the doona next to my legs. I literally can’t move. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Mine does too, I’m never able to move at night because I don’t want to accidentally kick them

had a cat who slept between my legs, she even gave birth there. it was something I never expected, as most cats do not want humans anywhere near their newborns.

For those cat owners out there, that want to bathe their furry buddy without the stress 😾and mess. I found that using a damp warm face cloth is the best way to keep everyone healthy and happy😸

8:04 “Cats will eat just about anything”
Ok this is news to me. Almost every every cat I have ever had has been a finicky eater. I had one cat that we had to buy it its own microwave oven. The cat would not eat anything that wasn’t a particular temperature and texture. So we had to put its food in a microwave to heat for a few seconds and then stir it up while mixing in special additives that would subtly change the taste and texture to be just the way they liked it. Obviously, we weren’t putting the cat’s food in our microwave, so it had to have its own.

I held myself my cat as frequently as she’d put up with it, kissed her little face and baby talked her as well as sang ridiculous songs to her in a baby voice. 😂. I think she had a clue her mommy loved her.
