Of all the great shows from the Golden Age of Radio, "Gunsmoke" may be the best of all.

Originally broadcast on January 1, 1955.
Beginning on October 16, 1954, the series was heard *twice* on Saturdays: 12:30pm(et) and 8pm(et). This was the afternoon edition.
29:17- "Stay tuned now for 'CITY HOSPITAL', which follows immediately over most of these stations. This is the CBS RADIO NETWORK."

They even advertise Dragnet 'on another network.' !

Becuse Liggett & Myers, the makers of Chesterfield and L&M, also sponsored "DRAGNET" on NBC's Tuesday night schedule at 8:30pm(et) that season [and on TV, Thursdays at 9pm(et)]. However, after the summer of 1955, they dropped their sponsorship of the radio show- which went into repeats for two more seasons (for particiapting adventisers) before NBC cancelled those in February 1957.

The thing about radio shows is that you can picture the people, settings, ect the way you want

That's why it's been called "theatre of the mind". You're encouraged to use your imagination and picture the scenes in your head. Great mental exercise sadly lacking in today's world of technology.

I'm dying for a Chesterfield and I've never even smoked. Put a smile in your smoking.

Ever since I was a kid I wished I had Marshall Dillons courage.
In this episode I can identify with Cassidy. My wife left me for another man and took my five year old daughter. I stayed drunk the rest of my life, but unknown to my daughter I watched her become a beautiful young woman.

Another great episode with a terrific storyline. At 6:25 we witness the tragic acceptance of disempowerment of woman folk back then who were incapable of escaping from intolerable marriages. I guess it still exists in some cases to this day. 8 Apr 2024

Not me not even when I saw this episode on the tv.show. In the old west you could legally kill people for a lot of reason protecting a woman or family member was a good reason, even revenge was a good reason,
