S P it was an aggressive type of spinal arthritis called Ankylosing spondylitis. A whole food plant based diet is one of the best tools to combat arthritic conditions, however you have to be a bit strategic in healing your gut and microbiome first, otherwise you may just be throwing some fuel on the fire. It can be a bit complicated so I recommend you check out “the Paddison program for rheumatoid arthritis” also that’s the whole reason I made my channel! So give that a look as well!

Just made my first sauce using your formula (sweet, salty, sour, fatty, etc) - this changes the game. I can finally move away from Basil Marinara, ha.
Now that the sauce does the flavor heavy lifting, I can create multiple components in a dish (like your bowls) for difference in taste/texture, without having to worry about spices as much.
This also removes the need for having to find meal recipes, as your cooking approach makes it easier to freeform things with any ingredients. And I cook all my meals so your videos have really helped me step things up and with more variety.
I have to give you the banana bread recipe I use, it's right in your wheelhouse (bananas + dates + oat flour).

Something I realised I really like about your videos Derek is that you don't over-edit the speaking parts. Some youtubers have loads of cuts when they are talking in the final video- not sure if they are trying to eliminate all pauses and errors, but it doesn't make for a smooth natural video. Yours are great (obviously a lot of work goes into the editing in general, but you have the right balance)

Sauce are a necessity for me - otherwise some veggies are too boring to chomp through in the quantity I eat - so a sweet Dijon mustard dressing (my partner's favourite in the Honey Mustard form) will be tested - but with real Dijon mustard (from your actual French town of Dijon LOL).

Im glad you are still doing well man, you inspired me to keep up with Veganism, however after 3 and a half years being vegan, I developed serious gut issues, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, repeated hospital visits, blood tests, faeces tests, no one knew what was going on. I even took a DNA test and turns out i became intolerant to majority fruits and vegetables and massively regarding wheat, bread and heavy fibre foods. It got so bad I was using the toilet one day, for about 45 mins at this point (due to trying to heal myself eating all these ''healthy'' wholefoods with fibre) and I got an anal fistula, which means there was a bit of tissue wall that broke and burst which seperates the exit matter out of my final stage of digestion, This sent me to the hospital in the worse pain in my life, was unable to walk for the next month (couldnt sleep for 4 days straight due to the pain even with triple dose of morphine and other bull shit drugs the hospital gave me which consipated me and made me feel WORSE. then another 2 months to recover to where I coiuld walk and slightly workout again. During this time the ONLY foods I could eat were steaks, chicken, eggs, and some fish, minimal potatoes and sometimes avocado. Nothing else. I realised when I cut out all the fruits and vegetables and grains, pulses and heavy fibre foods and ONLY stuck with animal based sources, I was healing again and seeing significant improvement. It has now been 1 year and a half since my anal fistula burst, the NHS still has not even given me a date for my corrective surgery!! I have to say I am no longer vegan and have been primarily CARNIVORE based to heal my body of its digestive issues, nutrient deficiencies etc, all my inflammation has gone, my energy is back, im putting on healthy weight and muscle ( I lost 6kg during my final year of veganism into the decline of fistula) and even my intolerance to milk has gone away and I can drink milk getting zero acne and feel amazing!
These findings confused me massively at first, but the more i looked into the research and other peoples cases the more I realised this is something serious. I NEVER wish the pain I got from my fistula and cramming vegan foods down me to ''heal'' me upon anyone. Please at least look into this and do your own research, check out Dr. Shawn Baker, Primal edge health (Ex 7 year Vegan), it can sometime take years for problems to develop and society has made everyone feel guilty for eating animals saying we do not ''need'' to eat them to live, but it seems like more and more people are reverting back to animal products after being on a vegan diet, acquiring health problems etc, and I just want to make sure you do not end up on the same path. We need to be honest and take our health into our own hands, animal based nutrition has no substitute and we need to consume it to be healthy and thrive.
I hope you understand where I am coming from as an ex vegan, I wish you well and all the best on your journey of health.

I have loved all your sauce recipes. I was having stir fry today but didn't have the miso to make the Ginger Miso dressing. Soooo I improvised and it turned out very good! At least to our taste buds it was good! So since I didn't have the miso, I used Oat flour and aminos (to have a paste and to have the salty) and I didn't have rice vinegar so I used white wine vinegar. So I made a double recipes and with these modifications ( 3 T oat flour, 2 T aminos, 2T white wine vinegar) Just in case anyone else doesn't have the miso. I'm sure miso and rice vinegar are better but this worked for us in a pinch! ; D Thanks for a great guideline!! LOL

I would love to see more meal prep style vids. I know a lot of people have to plan ahead especially if you work full time. I am from Louisiana originally so would also love your take on more Cajun dishes like jambalaya. I couldn’t imagine that vegan.

Thanks for the simple tip of "sweet, tangy, and salty" for dressings. Today I made a dressing for my salad but instead of lemon or apple cider vinegar for the 'tangy', I tossed in some pickle juice...SO GOOD!! And using the mustard to bind the oily + watery parts is GENIUS!! Thanks!

If you need to thicken a dressing/sauce, try a spoon of milled flax.

I’m sooo excited for the honey mustard one because it’s soooo hard to find store bought that doesn’t have eggs but tastes good. That’s always my go to salad dressing. Not vegan yet but gradually inching there (although probably plant based since idk if I can give up raw honey in tea fully).

Hey dude! I wanted to do just Veganuary and I am on day 6 and I think it's a reality that this is going to be a life altering, permanent change. I 'was' vegetarian for 22 years, but ate all processed, fake meat. I have since then tried all sorts of diets. Vegan, raw, SAD, THM, FODMAP and then just recently Keto. So, going from Keto to Vegan was/is such a major transformation. Going from no fiber to all fiber is tricky. I have to...have to...take it slow. I am not on beans and lentils yet. Just trying to incorporate carbs (which is hard since I was convinced they were evil for years). I will work up to beans! Your channel has been playing nonstop since I made the switch. I unfollowed all my keto hashtags and it has been invigorating. Pooping on keto was depressing. It was like rabbit pellets. And not being able to eat veggies because I had to stay in a 20g carb count was psychotic. Only 5 days vegan and my bathroom trips are *sheer joy*!! I just purchased your recipe book and hope this makes you feel good, but I watch your youtube channel with a notebook. I take notes and write all your recipes down. I was a heavy erythritol eater. Not that that's bad but I was putting it in everything. Since stopping and using dates, my digestion is almost fixed. LIKE- that one thing was hurting me and I never knew. I stick with just some stevia. I have also dumped my afternoon coffee per your instructions and now I don't have that evening bloat situation. I drink matcha instead. I wanted to stop the ringing (tinnitus) in my ears. That is my ultimate goal. It started overnight about 9 months ago and has wrecked havoc on my mental clarity. I want...WANT veganism to be the thing that cures it. Any tips or maybe include this topic on your AMM?? Anyways- thanks for your genuine approach. There are a million vegan channels. You stick out because you are real, a perfect amount of silly and I can tell you care! Keep up the great work.

Hi Derek! I discovered your channel at the beginning of 2019 and have been looking forward to every new video since! I watch your videos literally every day for inspiration to keep going and feel like I've made a friend with you and Crystal.
You have inspired me to continue my plant based diet and to use my passion of loving people to hopefully inspire others on things I am passionate about through creating a channel of my own. Thank you for ALL of your hard work.
YOU are changing lives in what you do! God has used you to motivate me to positive life changes in more ways than just food. I am excited to see how He uses me in the future.
My hope is that you and Crystal visit Florida in the near future. I would love meeting the man who turned my life around. Keep up the good work my friend!
