Awesome mate! I’m in Hervey Bay, and recently I purchased a abu Garcia veritas bait caster. Perfect for flatties, jacks and Barra. I spent the day fishing my local creek mouth yesterday fishing land based and I caught millions of rat Barra. Cheers mate
Hey bowly Tip: when the Barra goes to jump, put your rod tip down so they don't keep jumping as much because when you keep your rod tip up they just going to keep jumping and they will spit the hook most of the time when you hook up.
sort of doesnt really make a differance, plus once you've got you're rod tip down it becomes pretty hard to fight and keep pressure, then you end up losing a fish due to lack of tension.
Hey mate, in my experience I don’t feel lowering your rod tip during jumps is the right thing to do. I expect it when the line starts angling up and just make sure I’m winding enough to keep tension on and they very rarely come off. Usually just depends on the usual hook set. Plus, if they jump, they use more energy which shortens the fight, which increases the likely hood of landing the fish because of less time for anything to go wrong. Less chance for a shark to get them, less chance of them chaffing through your leader, less chance of a hook pulling. That’s my thinking for why I don’t do that. Thanks mate.
Hey mate, if you watch a few of my Barra videos I talk about various different different things I do. Even in this video I talk about positioning the boat among other things.
hey bowls, looking to get an electric of my own on a similar sized baot to urs and was tossing up between a minn kota powerdrive and an Xi5 given its potential to pair with the lowrance I'm running. just wondering if you've found the pairing function of the motorguide to be useful or should i go for the minn kota as the Xi5's are hard to find where i am at the moment cheers
I don’t think so, it would have had to travelled a far way. I’d say more likely to just to of hung around rocks primarily. Although it is a possibility it could have come from in the brackish.
Hey bowly I see that you have a motor guide and I would just like to ask if they are any good I am looking at getting a motor and have heard that their spot lock on the motor guide isn’t very good great video by the way
Hey mate, spot lock has been great on my motorguide. I have had two minn kota’s in the past and the spot lock has been better on the motorguide for me. I haven’t tried out the brand new minn kota’s though. Cheers.
How long does it take you to sound out a spot like this typically, I swear I don't see anything on my sounder for most trips. Maybe I'm not dedicating enough time to sounding areas?
Whenever I go somewhere new I spend a lot of time sounding, particularly areas where through my experience feel like they are likely to sit, whether it be some kind of ambush point/current break. Things like rock bars & lay downs can be in random spots though so it pays to just take your time and use your down and side scan imaging to see what’s around.
Epic finale 🎣👍🎉
Good to see you healthy and back on the water!
What a cracking start to the 2nd day of Barra season, epic session on the Barra! Good viewing!
Thanks matey
That is the best feeling ever slow rolling big plastics and getting thumped

I love Radar for the sandies. Works great. We get heaps of sandflies in Mackay creeks.
Absolutely epic fishing mate. The sudden stop on a slow rolled plastic is the best eat in barra fishing IMO. Thanks for sharing

Hey bowls love the content mate
what types of reel does he use
Hey Bowly, do you reckon that 2nd fish (80cm) was a freshie that has gone to the salt after all the flooding, looked to be very dark!!
I don’t think so, it would have had to travelled a far way. I’d say more likely to just to of hung around rocks primarily. Although it is a possibility it could have come from in the brackish.
