She is really rather good. Nice pace to the delivery and lots of appropriate voice inflection to emphasise key points and keep us interested. Great January addition to the Carbuyer team.
Very good, i tried watching another review before with a guy trying to be funny and pointed out worthless "problems" like big reflexes on the inside of the doors.. who cares? She was great.
The electric cars coming from Asian markets are more likely to have rear space as they like to maximise space, especially with the kei cars as most of them are like a box on wheels, but this particular model made by Hyundai is larger so that European markets aren’t put off by the fact that they could have made it tiny, also this helps with safety issues related around smaller cars- for instance in a rollover crash it is less likely to keep the passengers safe as they have small a and c pillars so they don’t lose visibility when traveling around urban areas such as Tokyo or Beijing
At last, a genuinely happy face with a voice that inspires confidence and a relaxed stance in front of the camera (Ginny could learn a couple of things). A pleasant addition (or hopefully a substitution) which can lead to Carbuyer's old status. Hope to see some more of you Nicki!
Wait, did she say a claimed range of 174 miles?!! Must have been a typo. It's 124 miles. I've owned the Premium SE since mid September and I love it. And I've owned a bunch of cars and bikes over the years. We replaced an 09 Audi A4 Avant Estate with the Ioniq and it's *way* better to drive.
Really like the way Nicki presents the review. She keeps the review interesting and curious. She just keep us wanting for more and more and more about the car that she is reviewing.
My first 10,000 miles in my Ioniq cost £135 in electricity :) Compare that to oil burners - 10,000 miles at 40mpg (UK average) is 250 gallons of fuel. Convert to litres 250 x 4.54609 = 1136.5 litres. At £1.2 per litre that's £1364.
I think the ioniq is probably around the sweet spot for many people. Give it a few years and these will be quite popular I think. Oh and Nicki, great to see you on CarBuyer.
I test drove one of these last year. Fantastic car if you can live with the limited range. I currently own a Nissan Leaf. This is a better car then the Leaf but it’s quite pricey in comparison. I paid £8k for my 2014 Leaf Tekna. Not sure how much one of these would be after 3 years.
I am VERY interested in an EV so thank you for the video and information. However I am waiting until they get them where they are practical. First they need to get the price down to the same level as a gas model of comparable size which would be around half what they are asking. Second they need to get range up to around 500 miles using full heat or air. And third they need to get the charging times down to around 10 or 15 minutes empty to full charge.
I’m sorry, is this a car review or a car commercial?! I couldn’t watch this review because I was getting too excited. You did a better commercial than Hyundai ever did..!
She's great! I've got nothing against new hosts and change, as long as they are good. I think if she had taken over from Mat, viewers would be perfectly content.
Real world driving range is only about 125 miles. The NEDC "claimed" range is useless and misleading and as an electric car expert you should know that and give real world numbers to potential buyers. If a person buys this car expecting 174 miles of range they will be sorely disappointed.
sparkss4 You do realise that these are tests they have to do within very strict guidelines. A BMW 520d is supposed to get over 65mpg, as done on the same test regime, but real world is around 45 mpg. I don’t suppose you get all bent out of shape with an ICE vehicle tests being 30% wrong. It is not that any of the manufactures is lying, it’s the rubbish test they have to all do and any anyone who has ever bought a car should always subtract between 25-35% of battery or fuel range.
I have one and it's great. Yes, it has its limitations, but so be it, it suits my needs to a T, just a shame they have a waiting list a mile long due to Hyundai's apparent half-arsed approach to building any great volume of them. Thankfully mine is in white rather than the baby poo yellow on this one.
Claimed 175miles. Info well before Jan 2 was available to show that this isn't the case. it is more like 120-130 (200km). Come on... a car reviewer should know that.
The door bins - a large bottle water, 2L(?) as you demonstrated, would prove dangerous when used whilst driving. The risk of it falling out and jamming under one of the pedals is also a consideration. Smaller bins discourage storage of large items in them. Boot lip - the lip acts as a barrier should items in the boot slide around and the boot lid fails and opens when car is moving. A lip also causes the boot lid to ride higher and obscure rear visibility when long items are transported that sticks out of the boot and the boot lid needs to be kept open, so the lip discourages this.
I don't find it ugly. It limits visibility but with the mirrors and the backup camera I can easily live with that and it also helps to eliminate the glare from the headlights of the car following you. I know because I own one. Too bad that color is not available in Canada. It looks good against the English countryside.
Good review but try to make them more entertaining like top gear, they were only successful cause they chose entertaining the audience rather than bombarding them with facts 👌🏻
Nice to see you here Nicki. Welcome!! Nice review, Ok car..

Very good, i tried watching another review before with a guy trying to be funny and pointed out worthless "problems" like big reflexes on the inside of the doors.. who cares? She was great.
Sending shots 😂
Love the new presenter! Great addition to the team
darkski11a thanks! loving being part of it!
Yep, she's a keeper. Love the sound of her voice and she seems really nice :)
She's a great reviewer, an awesome addition to the team of James & Ginny!
Paul Yeung I wouldn’t be upset if James moved on to be fair..
NZsarge1 to be honest lmao I agree
I prefer Ginny. We all can't be happy.
david dykeman ...I like James and Ginny, James is very easy to listen to and Ginny is professional and nice to look at, perfect!
I agree I wouldn't mind if James moved on ethier
stunning, classy and beautiful. the car is ok.
You sexist, she is a reviewer first just like everyone else in the channel
sexual harrass really? in 2018?
Moto Z Play goteeem 😂😂😂😂😂😂
She is very plain-looking. I'd take the car.
The car is great too.
Watched this in 2021 as I'm probably buying a used Ioniq. Thank you for a very well made and outstandingly presented review.

Very good presentation as always from Nicki. Welcome. Very well done. Good Carbuyer team!
I missed a bit of an introduction of the new host. Anyway, great first review and interesting car!
Nicki Shields: She's been on youtube and has a lot of videos so I guess most people have seen her already
Diego Mendi thanks for letting them know! :-) will have to do an intro in my next video!

Wow new host...great, I love it
+1 for liking the new reviewer. Delivery fits the Carbuyer style well. Best wishes for the new year guys!
Nicki seems to be everywhere over the last couple of years. It definitely makes sense to have someone who really knows EVs through FE to review them.
Chris Till thanks Chris!
Great Voice and a welcome addition to the Carbuyer Team
Very good first impression by the new reviewer. Nice likeable voice.
Commenting before even watching. Just clicked to see who's the new reviewer. Hope I'll be able to watch carbuyer's videos again.
Good old Miss Shields! She really knows her stuff, great communicator….
and easy on the eye too! ;-)
It's really nice to see electric cars finally being taken seriously and understood by car journalists. It only taken, what, around 7 years?
toyotaprius79 and this is just the beginning!! Exciting year ahead for EVs
Really like the way Nicki presents the review. She keeps the review interesting and curious. She just keep us wanting for more and more and more about the car that she is reviewing.
i haven't seen the gray colored grill version here in USA. We have the gloss black only grill...
Thank God for the new reviewer!!
A breath of fresh air what this channel needed 10/10 brains and beauty
Just a personal request for your videos carbuyer ; could we have more shots of the binnacle? Love your videos anyway

great new presenter! looking forward to seeing some more reviews of some more interesting cars! great job.
How big is the big bottle in the big bottle test?
Brilliant idea to bring Nicki in. Hats off to whoever is in charge
Tiskaul Renaubeam
So does the full electric version have a frunk?
Another great video from Carbuyer.
The Hyundai Ionic- very cool.
The Nicki Shields-very hot.
Cheers.
What's the white rectangle just above the rear number plate?
It could be the light for the reversing camera if you are trying to reverse in the night
She’s SUPER GOOD!!!!!! Wish to see more reviews with her!
I think its my future buy.....maybe with the 2020 model's bigger battery.
Great Review , Can you Do A Review on the New Seat Arona Small SUV Please??
A new girl - love her voice, love her tone, like her review. Welcome Nicki!
I might start watching this channel now Nicki is hosting it
Compared to the likes of the Volkswagen e-Golf,BMW i3,and Renault ZOE,does the Ioniq Electric match its price tag very well?
The max range on this car is nearer to 170km rather than 170 miles. It only has a 28KwH battery capacity.
Hi Nicki, loving your work - Where's Ginny?
Is this car available in Qatar?
Yes!!!!!!! New woman on air!!! Let’s consider that old one as a bad dream. Thank you Carbuyer. She’s awesome.
Her voice is ASMR, I love it
I think the ioniq is probably around the sweet spot for many people. Give it a few years and these will be quite popular I think.
Oh and Nicki, great to see you on CarBuyer.
Pete FlintMurray thanks!
Lies again? American Education Bus Driver

Wow, mesh on the seat backs!
Hey, Nicki.Where is your black leather drive gloves?. 🤔
My round trip to work is 150 miles per day so a claimed 174 mile range is not enough!
New year and a new face. A great addition to the team. Yes Ginny is nice, but she can get a bit judgmental from the word go.
The almost 2 litre bottle test, is a bit of an exaggeration, no one puts such a big bottle in the door. A 500ml-750ml bottle is a more accurate test.
Where’s James ?
New blood ! Just what we needed
Couldnt you find a bigger water bottle?
Bought one, absolutely loving it! :-)
Ha, I really like Nicki. I remember her from Pauls video (SOL)
New voice New face. You look fantastic! Oh ... the car is nice
Oh interesting to find Nicki here. Soo is she the EV expert for Carbuyer now?
I like her, hopefully she does more reviews.
What a professional review!
But I hated the car, it is so lame. At least it is a lot better looking than the Prius.
New host 👀
Great voice 😂😂
At last a good honest review, no more james please.
YOU STRAIGHT BOYS GET THE T&A WHY CAN'T WE? YOU LOOKING FOR CR REVIEWS ARE LOOKING TO GET OFF?
I've driven one several times, and while I Love it, i prefer my Prius 2 when it comes to comfort and space

Ginny and her are great reviewer's get rid of james also when I saw it's a better team (instead of just boring james) I resubscribed.
I’m sorry, is this a car review or a car commercial?! I couldn’t watch this review because I was getting too excited. You did a better commercial than Hyundai ever did..!
This reviewer is much better than James
Not much said about the car. Not a bad summary, but many details missing.
Didn’t expect to see Nicki here, but a great surprise nevertheless
She's great! I've got nothing against new hosts and change, as long as they are good. I think if she had taken over from Mat, viewers would be perfectly content.

The door bins do not pass the Carzma big bottle test!

How's the ownership going?
I what??? Ironic??? James has competition...she’s after your job lol
Oh yes James! I’m coming for you... Watch out! JOKE! ;-)
Reasonably well rounded review, can’t get excited about the car though, meh..
Awww damn nicki is in the house!!!

Yes!! The large packet of crisps is back!!!
Why so many electric/hybrid cars have this weird dual-window hatchback design. It couldn't look worse...
I don't find it ugly. Like her tone perfect
An around town car and short daily commuting is this cars thing.. A 2nd car whilst you have a bigger ICE car for going away from home..
Nice to see a new pretty girl that likes cars in this channel. What's your name gorgeous?
So happy to not see the guy with rad trousers!!!! My god..... get him out quickly
She sounds a bit like Rebecca!
The high point of the video: Nicki shields (you are so adorable)
The car is...mehhh
Who remembers the time when Mat Watson was on carbuyer
Honestly how many cars are there that can fit a 2 litre bottle in the door compartment?!?! What a silly thing to do!
Who is she?
This bottle was huge....Are you heading to the desert sweatheart.... ???
I hate anything to do with hyuandi but damn she made me watch the whole clip
Good review but try to make them more entertaining like top gear, they were only successful cause they chose entertaining the audience rather than bombarding them with facts 👌🏻
Nice review Nicki. I am warming to an electric car, but not this one. It is too SAFE.
I want a lip in the trunk. Makes me feel others won't risk scrapping the back of my car.
The very most important thing when reviewing an electric car is missing! The 'real' miles per charge.
love the beautiful design
174 miles is not what you'll really get. You should state that 90-140 miles is more realistic.
Hey good looking, what you got cooking... She's very good.
