    Great fishing, footage, andnice snapper. On the west coast of New Zealand north island winter water temperature is about 13C and during summer its 22C. The south-easterlies have been blowing so the water is slowly creeping up to 15C ,hoping for a good summer

    What type of snapper? It looks like what we call here in Florida a Grunt.

    • @rokkitkit

      I guess it's an Australasian snapper... In Oz and New Zealand we just call them Snapper and everyone just assumes these guys. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australasian_snapper www.google.com.au/?gws_rd=ssl#q=australian+snapper

    Kudos for braving the wind. I'm lucky enough to live right on the coast (like a 20m walk) but I'm not very confident when it's blowing so the yak stays where it is.
    About how far out did you get on this trip?

    • @rokkitkit
      @rokkitkit  8 лет назад

      20 metres sound pretty good! I ended up about 2kms out on this trip just following the reef line out.

    Hello mate. If you're already doing what I am about to suggest, then forget what I've said.
    A mate of mine came in near the shore, fishing the edge of a bank in what seemed pretty flat calm. He was caught by a wave and rolled. No big deal until he pulled in his bungee straps holding his rods to his kayak. To his utter dismay, the water was really shallow where he was rolled and the rods broke. In their breaking, he lost his two reels too. All because he was putting the bungee straps on fairly low down so they were so "inconvenient" whilst reeling in. Since then, boh he, I and plenty of others have started tying a good piece of nylon cord (about 3mm thick) in a kind of figure 8 around the foot of the reels and the rods. Obviously, since doing this, no one has had a busted rod (pure luck of the draw), but if and when it does occur again, we should hopefully only lose the rods and not a ton of money's worth of reels too. Yeah, I fully realise you stow your gear before coming into the shore, but should you decide to go chasing around some shallow water it might be worth your while considering doing something similar.
    Loving the newer style of videos where we get to hear you talking, rather than just trying to lip read the words you're saying if you get snipped ;)
    Keep up the great work!!

    What kind of jacket were you wearing? Awesome videos as always brahh!

    • @rokkitkit
      @rokkitkit  8 лет назад

      The Jacket very fancy... well not really, just a cheep $10 spray jacket from Kmart. I had a better one but the zips had some metal in them and they corroded out over time. this cheep one has all plastic zips. I do want to invest in a better jacket at some point but anything that just blocks the wind does the job. Ah... just realised it may be the PFD you were asking about, its a NRS Zen. Cheers Rod

    Superb filming, love the commentary too. Just love to see the Stealth never mind the fish although that's nice. The Bonito is bigger than most here, but that's the UK. Getting fished out slowly. What temperatures do you like? It's loads colder here & I'm still out there. Fish are slower though.

    • @rokkitkit
      @rokkitkit  8 лет назад

      Thanks Patrick, yea Im sure you would laugh at what we call cold here in Queensland :) What we are waiting for water temp wise is for it to rise to around 24º+ then the mackerel will start to show up!

      Thanks! The Penn Clash is a 4500 with 20lbs braid.

  • @jdoes5590
    @jdoes5590 8 лет назад

    Hay mate,
    i know you are sponsored by Penn but do you think that the SSV is worth the extra money than the SSM?
    Also how is the externally mounted transducer going? does it get annoying? The new yak setup has me pretty jealous!!!
    Cheers,
    JD

    • @rokkitkit
      @rokkitkit  8 лет назад

      Hi JD, I first started using the SpinfisherV because of the seals, which the SSM doesn't have. I know a few guys that use the SSM and they are relatively easy to keep going with their simple side plate that allows access to the inner working with out too much pulling apart... The SSV is a more modern real and has a nicer feel, good drag and with the seals keeps going much longer when getting dunked in the water from the kayak. So definitely worth the money in my opinion.
      Having the transducer external is working... Im happy with having to clip it on and it works great but I do sometimes think its slowing me down a bit drag wise... not that much really though. Cheers Rod

      @jdoes5590 8 лет назад

      RoKKiT KiT They do sound like they are good reels and i have only heard good things about them, If they are as hardy as people say i think it might be a good choice to get one.
      The other question i had was what type of rig do you run for your dead baits?
      Cheers,
      JD

    • @rokkitkit
      @rokkitkit  8 лет назад

      Yea I think you can't go wrong with the SSV. If money is not an issue check out the new Slammer III. Better in just about every way plus ipx6 rating.
      For dead baits check out this link from a mate in Coffs Harbour. Its very similar to what I use. ruclips.net/video/-aYThhzhWyQ/видео.html

    • @jdoes5590
      @jdoes5590 8 лет назад

      Thanks for that, i might have to make up a few rigs as the water is getting warmer :)
