Water temperature has dropped in New Zealand too but some good snapper feeding up still in shallow water (my favourite) and deep water. The plichard workups have also started further out and now all we need is some low wind days and no rain lol

Thanks for watching mate, most of the year it is quite warm where i live so I can wear shorts and a rash vest. In Winter I use some cut of wetsuit pants and a Spray jacket to cut the wind.
Mate, my heart was in my mouth when I saw you pull that hook out of the Jewy bare handed. All was looking good with the small fish and you were using pliers, well done, but then with a big powerful fish you resort to just fingers to remove the hook. I hope you stashed the bolt cutters.
There's potential for your rod to come off your leash/tether the way you have it set up don't you think? I usually strap the velcro above the reel so that the reel acts like a stopper and prevents the leash from slipping off the end of the rod.
I make sure the Velcro is nice and snug so it grips on when pulled sideways. It would have to be a pretty strong tug to come loose... i used to put it up above the reel but found it would sometimes get in the way when winding so started going lower 👍
Here in Perth I've yet to catch a legal Pinky or Mulloway, in-fact I've never even caught a half decent fish here except for the odd shark or ray. Landbased here is terrible unless if you drive a few hours north or south of the city, but aint nobody got time for that.
Great trip and video Rod! Awesome fish, well done mate. I think that the overcast days reeeeally help with the shallow water Snapper. I've found this is a key part in them feeding from the shallow, close in reefs on the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, and Gold Coast. How hard did the Jewwie go as well?! Good fun fishing. Cheers, Will

Hey Allen, I got both my rod leashed and bait bucket from a place called BCF here in OZ. It’s your typical big chain outdoors/ fishing store. I like my rod leashes to have the spring bungee, so if you can order that you could diy them. I know Stealth Kayaks make a good collapsible bait bucket that you may be able to get over there👍

Mate those fish at the start are gun red baits. Down on the mid north coast I’ve used them many times and the reds just crunch them!! Try em next time

I call these suckers mully, short for mulloway, but where I live in Vicco they always are under the Patto river bridge we catch em at night time
