    One place where this would be eminently practicable idea would be on one of the wealthy Cattle Ranches/ Sheep Stations in Australia: thoussnds of acres of free open land. Traveling across the red outback under the sun, camping next to the track under the deep dark sky twinkling with myriad stars...

    • @meestirbig3083
      @meestirbig3083 2 года назад +1

      I like your idea, but with one exception. Those darn snakes you have in Australia. I wouldn't sleep anywhere out of doors, unless, I could comfortably sleep knowing those slithery things would not crawl in your sleeping bag.

    • @treebeard4842

      Cattle Ranches / sheep stations: thoussnds of acres of free open land" You clearly have no idea what the land is really like in outback Australia. Hell you even show your ignorance by calling such places Cattle Ranches. We don't call them ranches in Australia, they're called PASTORAL PROPERTIES or PASTORAL FREEHOLDS. Oh and not all of the outback is red coloured and those parts that are, aren't exactly suitable for cattle or sheep grazing either - no water and no suitable vegetation for cattle and sheep to feed on.

      afxinfinitee One estimate I saw, based on 12 pound rail, for new rail, joiner plates, bolts, ties, spikes, and ballast, but exclusive of any earthmoving for cuts or fills, or any bridge work, was $100,000 per mile of track. That was US $ about 10 years ago, so adjust for location and inflation.

    • @wideyxyz2271
      @wideyxyz2271 4 года назад +1

      @@LandNfan You can do it much cheaper using "used parts". Its the loco and stock that will cost the biggest "wedge" But it can be done. 7 1/4" gauge or 5" gauge is attainable for us mortals to have the dream. I was lucky enough to own a 7 1/4" steam loco for a few years but unfortuantley didnt have a big enough garden to lay out a proper line....So the pipe dream remains....
