La Sportiva Sardinia Bloc Scouting - Teaser

Sardinia is not only a magical land but also a climber's paradise - with lots and lots of rock, the majority of which is still unexplored. In the collective imagination the region is a sea of limestone, but in fact, it's the amount of granite that most people find most surprising. Gallura, in the north of the island, is the Sardinian granite region. The land is almost completely dotted with climbing blocks: a haven of boulders haphazardly strewn about in an incredibly charming and beautiful setting.
This sparked La Sportiva's idea to bring their ambassadors to Gallura. These are some of the strongest boulder climbers in the world who, armed with brushes and good skins, begun to explore and exploit this vast area of blocks. The aim was to both give something to the island in terms of climbing culture, encouraging the development of a "vertical attendance" people climbing blocks in the area. Leading this special operation was Pietro Dal Pra, the expert of the area and historically tied to the land of Sardinia. At his side were Nalle Hukkataival and his trusted companion Anthony Gullsten, along with the sparkling Cody Roth, the Italians Michele Caminati and Silvio Reffo, the guru of our national blocks Marzio Nardi, the super-couple Pearson--Ciavaldini and the young sensation Fabian Buhl. With the help of some willing Sardinian boulderers, the La Sportiva team was at work from 9-17 November 2013; exploring, cleaning and climbing.
This calendar collect the best pictures from the Sardinian trip and it will be followed in 2014 by a complete guide to the bouldering areas and by a short movie who will recap the full experience. With the explicit invitation to go there and find your own new boulders, continuing what La Sportiva has only begun...
Sardegna, terra magica, paradiso dell'arrampicata con tanta, tanta roccia, di cui la gran parte ancora vergine. Nell'immaginario collettivo c'è un mare di calcare, ma al contrario, è la quantità di granito che sorprende ancor di più. E la regione sarda del granito è il nord dell'isola. La Gallura, una terra puntinata di blocchi in quasi tutta la sua estensione, un paradiso di massi buttati lì, in un contesto di incredibile fascino e bellezza: con molto da esplorare, pulire e scalare.
Da qui l'idea de La Sportiva di portare in Gallura gli atleti ambassadors, supportati da alcuni volenterosi climber locali, tutti armati di spazzole e buona pelle, per esplorare e valorizzare questa enorme zona di blocchi, con il fine ultimo di contribuire allo sviluppo di una frequentazione verticale sull'isola. A guidare l'operazione di "Clean&Climb" andata in scena tra il 9 ed il 17 novembre 2013 e finalizzata a far scoprire alla comunità arrampicatoria alcune nuove zone di boulder completamente scalabili: il "climber di casa" Pietro Dal Pra, esperto conoscitore della zona e legato storicamente alla terra sarda. Al suo fianco il fortissimo Nalle Hukkataival ed il fido compare Anthony Gullsten, il frizzante Cody Roth, gli italiani Michele Caminati e Silvio Reffo, il guru nostrano dei blocchi Marzio Nardi, la super coppia Pearson-Ciavaldini ed il giovane e talentuoso Fabian Buhl.

I try to do some developing around where I live.. I noticed some funny things about developing, and climbers... this video in the beginning says you climb the line and leave it as mother nature intended... and then in Yosemite or where I climb it's about protecting the natural look of the rock... not wire brushing or tearing off big patches of moss to look for certain things... keep it natural... but then there are the landings... living bushes... and climbers will chop them away... I mean one guy had like a weed Wacker in this video.. then talking about leaving it as mother nature intended..? Weird.. so my question is what is the etiquette on landing. I've avoided climbing lines I've found due to massive bushes at the base. Trying to leave nature alone.. should I be sawing them away and building landings?
