    Never looked at it that way. I'm playing as a hive empire, I have 4 fleets that are all between 112-120k, combined they are 470k in power, 173 colonies, and still making 1k in each resource, apart from food which is at 2.3k. Second highest is an alien empire with 32k... I own half of a large map, just under 200 years in the game. I usually win by power rather than tactics. I build all battleships, half carriers and half battleships. Carriers have bombers and battleships have giga cannon and the rest are gatling guns. Works each time

    I'm a little proud of my fleet in my past game. Killed a 7K combined arms fleet in 2246 ish with my 3.8k fleet. All destroyers with 1 large fusion missile and 2 PD, 33 destroyers, and they had all missiles without PD. I also had the cautious (+20% range) admiral. So much long range death.

      This is why I don't think the game is telling the whole truth when it says fleet power measures both offensive and defensive power. Surely point defense would increase the fleet power more than just having raw weapon loadouts for everything

      It's like RAW Power, to intimidate the AI conditions or Human players, but just like every other paradox games the combat is always a dice roll. Taking into account different stats, evasion, accuracy, morale and etc, everything plays a role.
      I experienced this and it is quite impressive.

I can see their empire stats, what ships they have and the commander of that fleet but I can't see what they are made of.

    Definitely among my top three favorites
    That high pitch piano sounds like a beacon in the stars designating the assemble coordinate, while countless ships enter FTL and rendezvous from all corners of the galaxy.
    And then the low pitch metallic drum beats feels like battleships being built and rolling out from shipyards one by one.
    So cool...

    Fleet composition isnt the final thing when thinking about a fight. The admiral at level 3 can have + 9% fire rate so if yours is a level 1 then you get +3%. That +6% is going to give an impact. However if your opponent also has a military trait due to it being a extreme materialist it can have + 20% Thus the fleet you fight against may have + 29% fire rate. in contrast to you +3% This is extreamley dangerous no matter how you have set up your fleet composition. So you might have counter ships, but still loose any way.

      same, i find it to also be both much simpler, and highly effective. why worry about fleet composition if 1 or 2 battleship designs will do the job (i do sometimes mix with cruisers instead, fighter/bomber cruisers giving a cover against whatever doesn't get obliterated in the 3 first artilery volleys)

      I use a screen of Corvettes, either torpedo-optimised against shield-heavies or with mining drone lasers against armour-heavies. A bunch of destroyers armed with point defence to secure my battleships against missile/bomber-heavies, or kinetic artillery (destroyers get good bonii to tracking by default). Cruisers with plasma, or a combination of neutron torpedos and tons of projectile weapons (basicly torpedo corvettes on steroids). But my main damage dealers are still a ton of battleships, either full-on missile barrage, a full set of kinetic batteries and tachyon/gigacannon/focused arc, or 5th option bomber wing, flak defence and whirlwind missiles for the rest. I also try to capitalise on the stats - battleships for example get two sets of Crystal-forged Plating to exaggerate their hull points. A good combination of all those, moderately adjusted in ratio against whatever enemy you are taking on, should be able to deal with just about anything.

    • @happyonionman4699
      @happyonionman4699 6 лет назад +2

      I do too but it's not optimal. Some Neutron Torpedo Corvettes improve virtually any fleet. That's mostly because of corvettes' evasion, and neutron corvettes are the only corvette build that can play with the big guys.
      Think about the difficulty setting as well. Some players choose higher difficulty for the challenge of it, and you can't always afford to build two types of battleships and nothing else.

    Just get NSC and enigmatic technologies, and make fleets comprised of a single super dreadnought with 2 dreadnoughts, no shields, and stacked completely with cryptic/spiral forge armor (it gives an additional 20% and 16% hull points in large slots) and repair drones or other repair items in the A slot.
    Do the same for a flagship and watch the lols. I had a flagship with 60k+ hull points and 25% monthly regen. Sent it out to defend an awakened empire's conquered homeworld and had it solo it's entire 600k fleet that tried to take the world back (it was a stale mate since I intentionally didn't equip x type weapons and the had over 200 ships so shields absorbed all the damage and regenerated, and they couldn't deal more damage than my flagship regenerated, well actually they were slowly taking it down) the flagship held the fleet off for approx 1 year while I conquered the rest of the AE with my smaller fleets and won the war lol.

    I would say that once you have battleships, corvettes are pretty much useless. Destroyers can serve the corvette role pretty well once you get to that point.
    My comps tend to turn out
    However many Battleship(s)
    1.5 times as many cruisers
    Twice as many destroyers.
    Edit:
    However many battleships,
    2x as many cruisers as battleships
    2x as many destroyers as battleships
    4x as many corvettes as battleships
    In addition to this, my ship classes vary. I use multi-role versions of cruisers and battleships, while using one standard design for destroyers and corvettes

    One good composition i find is a small strike group of 2 or 3 destroyers with PD, and 5 to 9 corvettes with a mix of torpedo boats and Interceptors with full level 2 auto-cannons. It is useful for striking at outposts and other soft targets. It also has the add benefit of drawing enemy fleets into the traps by luring them close to friendly defense posts.

    I find this information for me quite useful, so keep it up and thank you. What I was also wondering was in Late Late game your fleets are very large and you seem to if not already have the do all kill all fleet and updating type of weapons don't seem to be a thing, but only the BUFFS or percentage to your weapons and only for certain fallen empires do you spam out specific type ships to counter them. Now for me I have yet come to this point in the game for all sorts of reasons, but you always seem to know which fallen empires have what and how you need to counter them and maybe I missed it but you seem to make your changes at the right time in every case. Maybe a counter weapon video for fallen empires would be cool. I came across some GD peacekeepers that were well over my fleet cap and were for sure not looking for peace. So I was like yeah ok now what. SO thanks you for the video and keep it up.

    Thanks for the video. The problem I find is that once out of the early game the AI just uses a mashup of weapon techs so trying to counter is fruitless which is why I tend to build to counter the FE/AE since they will always be a bigger threat. I wish a mixed fleet was the "best/most efficient" way to go as I find the single design fleets boring as well, I miss the days of 1:2:4:8 and such, but as of right now it feels like you're sacrificing an advantage by not but not just going all cruiser or all bb.
    Also I think when people ask what is a good fleet comp they probably mean "what is a good all around mix that can reasonably deal with any similar strength fleet". Looking at what the enemy has and countering is great but most of the time I feel like it is a surprise war that you cant prepare for or you declaring war when you have the upper hand and countering design really doesnt matter. Just my 2 cents, loving the more frequent videos.

    Large plasma does only 3-4% more dps vs 90% armor than Large lasers. Plus lasers deals more vs shields, hits better. I could do some maths regarding various weapon effectiveness, including, whatt kind of armor is autocannon effective against, when you want railgun/KA/ Like what target armor ranges a weapon is good against. But that is a bit of work.

    people ask for a carrier ... battleship is the carrier. It is possible to make battleships with 3K base shield, shield regen and psionic shields 3k shields and like 83 shield regen. The ship will have enough power to just have 4 PD. How effective it would be ? Probably not very much, but it would have its own PD and lots of bombers, once you have repeatables, the thing might survive even a titan laser. 5 repeatables - 3750. I do not know how to try out such a battleship, cause I have only ironman 2500 year and Im not really trying to ruin that. I killed contingency already though.

  • @togglefire3537
    @togglefire3537 4 года назад

    I found that having two different groups for each attack really helps you are odds. First make a fast attack but heavily armored and defended "task force" / attacking Fleet and then make a bunch of ships with the artillery computer chip so that they all sit back no matter what they are. The attacking Fleet is made up of fast vehicles and units made to be on Frontline combat all the way up to the cruiser level. Then what I like to call my rear guard or my carrier Fleet typically have All Ships at artillery range including picket Destroyers just in case another enemy Fleet comes in out of nowhere and attacked me from behind. The enemy can never withstand both fleets at once. Plus I have four battleships with tachyon Lance and the upgraded version of that. No enemy survives.
    Plus you're absolutely right there is no such thing as perfect Fleet composition. You have to completely change around your Fleet design if you go into a pulsar system and cannot rely on shields. So it is 100% head on a swivel ready to change at the drop of a hat.

      hyperlane only maps+ chokepoint systems (as in, places where the galactic arms cross/the arm narrows to a single lane) then put the biggest, beefiest battlestation you cna on it which should hold out for long enough for your ships on that front to reinforc it. also, if there's only one way into the system for the enemy, put your station there, then you don't need the FTL snare, and instead put in a module that helps your station survive longer, like the - firerate one, or shield regen one (although, i'm unsure if that actually helps the station itself too)

    I took my inspiration from stargate and tried to create a species that involves mostly on exploring. I find I am carrying lvl 5 shields. power and weapons while the AI is still stuck on lvl 2 and 3 max. All my guns are projectile based because the ancient design has the same weapon system.
    This is how my fleet looks like, Specialized Battleships, Cruisers forming support, Destroyers delivering raw fire power and corvettes to cover a screen. Since day one I lost one science ship playing on hard difficulty. Went 1 time to war with a fallen empire because I couldn't stop te temptation to seize a holy world. I got humilated and trying to get it late game with a 100k fleet. One empire keeps its armies above one of my planet all the time and it gets more furstating. Its like the AI tries to trigger u to fight again and be like look federation he is warmonger!
    Fucking politics sucks but it gives u peacetime to prepare for a war. I hope they keep improving the AI because this is one the best RTS space games. This could be the best foundation for Empire at War 2 in my opinion.

    Personally my fav fleet set up is: high fire ratio Corvette/Destroyer, Proton Torpedo Carrier, then 40% Sniper Battleships/ 60% Carrier Battleships. Normally Carrier Battleships Bombers will do between *0.6x to 2x DPS* then Sniper Battleships. (Depends in your tech, endgame is 2x with no repeatable research)

    That's why early on I focus on Corvettes and just upgrade them. Cheap High Quality Ships. Make 3 variants just like building a realistic naval fleet. 1 w/ Torpedo & Kinetic to act as Swarm Bombers + Shield Breaker. 2nd as PD to defend against missiles. 3rd is Laser focused Gun Ships with Picket AI to destroy shieldless hostiles after the initial charge.
    Though at start, missile ships are quite OP until the AI adapts by using PD so I change my tactics.
    I've noticed once the hull is damaged to a certain threshold there's a chance of disengaging that's why Missile Weapons should be used, the more enemies you rout at first hit, the less potential damage your fleet takes.

    I’m new to the game and because I’m slow and playing talk, I’ve built 3 type of ship per class that each are specialised against a target (I got lucky and have a ring world and a relic world so I have the energy and alloys to back it up), with a heavy focus on bypassing shields entirely (deverstator torpedoes and cloud lighting are sexy), and while in the early game I struggled to win engagements, I now manage to wipe the floor with similarly sized fleets from other empires.

    Good explanatory video for fleet compositions, unfortunately lacking in how to get so many different ship classes together overcoming the same ship class limitation for merging fleets. I wish you would update this video for the 2.27 update and give us a good explanation on merging fleets. In the early game I got 2 salvage cruisers and a robot corvette but had real trouble getting them to merge with other fleets. Is the basic answer to have your main fleet sit in the shipyard where ships are being built and it be the only fleet in the shipyard so each new ship drops into that specific fleet? I guess I'll be testing that theory out so in the future I figure out how to make sure I have a matching ship class in each fleet I want to merge so I can merge early salvage ships into a more powerful multi-ship class fleet. This is the absolute worst fleet merging function in any 4X space game I've played and I've played many over the decades since they first came out. I sure wish the devs would make fleet merging way simple so we can merge one-ship fleets of different ship classes by simply clicking a merge button on each fleet.

But I do wonder how much is going mostly in on kinetic type ships with some strike craft and point defense vs say a nice mix of missiles, energy and kinetic going to affect me? Lasers just seem so gay to me, and missiles with the exception of torpedoes don't really do it for me either, kinetic artillery, rail guns and Autocannons tho have that propper hardass militrist feel if you get me.

I wish there was some way of having an empire RP or something. Maybe have it so that at the empire creation screen you can set it so that this empire prefers using explosives and armor while that one prefers kinetics and shields while that one prefers lasers and evasion or this one prefers a balance of them, it would make the game way more fun.

    I have to agree eith you their is no perffect fleet. For instanve I generally late game phaze out all not Battleships. However, my fleet late game are more used in support of heavily defend space station and if i make enough minerals and energy to almost have a 50% larger navy then my capacity can handle. But i still use covettes however and cannon fodder I'll raise fleet s of nothing but corvettes to either A) soften defense for Battleships to move in B) Rapid response such if all my fleet are on one border another empire on the oppistite side of me declares C) Generally I like to hold 2-3 fleets back to defend my core worlds however if i get in a sticky situation I build corvettes, destroyers, and cruisers to allow my heavy home fleets to head to the front line.

    When all you have is missiles everything gets a target lock. ;)
    I've always found missiles to be quite effective at all stages of the game. The AI NEVER builds enough PD to counter them and even as I encounter more PD heavy fleets I easily overwhelm them with swarm/cluster missiles since every slot is a missile. Until I get Torps then I add several in for good measure.
    I also tend to go heavy battleships an phase out the rest the longer the game goes on. Not sure why you seem to go heavy on the cruisers though. As in my experiance bigger ships last longer and tend to have fewer overall losses which are easier to replace. With AI I find I can widdle away their fleets with hit and run tactics if need be. Taking out dozens of corvettes and destroyers then withdrawing only to lose maybe 1 BS if even that. The rest do a quick repair and hit them again.
    Often times I maybe using 2 fleets at once to harass an enemy with larger fleet or larger combined fleets due to allies. I soften them up because they always run if they see I have a bigger fleet to start with and I like to keep loses to minimum. Eventually I reach the point where I can sandwich them to catch their fleet off guard. They warp in to chase 1/2 my fleet only to have the other half warp in and join the fight during what was hugely in their favor into something that is now either even in terms of power rating or something more lopsided in my favor. That move is usually the finally killing blow of the war and i sweep through their space taking out everything after that until they surrender.

    Hey Aspec, you keep calling torpedoes very mid game technologies designed to kill cruisers, but I disagree. Space torpedoes can be picked up from the pirates, usually. They seem like a good weapon to take down starports with very early game, becuase starports eat corvettes.

    My fleet (2340 isch) is basucally 20 swarm corvettes as a bit of damage but mostly distraction, 20 picket corvettes for more distraction and point defence, 8 cruisers at artillery with a huge amount of large lasers, 2 battleships again with artillery and 1 battleship/carrier with bombers and some more point defence. The enemy tries to kill the corvettes, while being mauled by a huge array of gigantic lasers. Probably should swap the lasers for canons for a bit of extra range.

      An AI once built fortresses with all advanced bombers. Its military strength was incredible. I've tried it a couple of times since, because AI's don't build flak and fighters all the time. It can be good.
      If you use a subspace snare, use some S and M weapons and a quantum destabilizer.
      I believe armor is good on stations.
      A mix of regular kinetics and autocannons is probably a good default layout if you don't have all the information.

      armor is actually capped so if he had continued to research repeatable armor techs in his One Planet challenge, he could have gotten max armor with very little actual plating. Add a lot of extra HP and shielding on top and that thing is already dangerous.
      However I feel that station should have T and X modules too.

    • @nimmer4749
      @nimmer4749 6 лет назад +1

      This guide is still relevant as he does a good job of explaining fleet compositions, but stations are much more powerful in 2.0. They survive a long time and can do a lot of damage. However, they are most definitely suited for building tall. It's money spent on power that you can't move. You also have to be smart about where you place them. Surveying early so that you can find choke points and plan your empire is priority #1 if you plan on using stations. If they aren't on a choke point, the enemy can evade them. What about after jump? You should also hopefully have jump at this point and be able to match them with your fleets. It doesn't make much of a difference and I rarely see the AI jump before I smash them with superior technology and resources.
      Also, if you are at war and your station is winning fights for you, the cost of war for your opponents is insanely higher than yours. They deplete their resources on ships and the investment on your end requires hardly any upkeep. You might lose platforms, but they are less expensive than replacing ships. They also die slower. It takes a while, but the Ion Cannons are OP, btw. Tons of damage.

    Is there any point in ever using disruptors?

    • @cdgncgn
      @cdgncgn 6 лет назад +7

      yes, there is, especially the small ones. Torpedoes have accuracy issues, while they are effectively large weapons, just like hangars are basically XL, because of the possibility of a shootdown. I wrote in another topic, that small railguns vs small disruptors, railgun does just 60% antishield damage. And against big ships, anything less thanplasma III and mining laser wont do jack. I calculated their dps on another topic, disruptor especially with sentient AI comps will have 98% hit chance and have very high tracking. However, with the right build, you can have 2 mining lasers that will outdps small plasma III vs 90% targets by about +1/10. In such a case you dont have a place for torpedo. Torpedo takes 60 power like kinetic artillery, large weapon. 90 base accuracy means that it will miss even battleships, because 12 tracking wont negate minimum 14 evasion that the battleships will have. 9 from engine 5 from base stat. If BS is psioninc, 15% bonus, 5 from distinguished admiralty, if admiral is evasive, the battleships get 25% bonus to base evasion stats. Then, as such, the battleship gets 14 evasion + 25%= 17,5 battleship evasion. In such a case, 98% accuracy torpedo, 12 track, will result in 92,5% hit chance. Cruisers are even harder, destroyers get about 54 evasion with corvs being easily 90% evasion capped.
      Against shields small railgun is 60% worth of a small disruptor. Against 90% armor target, 0,22 vs 0,30 dps is negligible.

    • @attacksalad2996

      cdgncgn wow this is the best RUclips comment reply I have ever seen

    • @cdgncgn
      @cdgncgn 6 лет назад +4

      ty. Aspec doesnt also mention much stuff like how armor works, because he doesnt really understand it. Large Plasma v Large Laser, against 90% armor, Plasma outdpses Laser by just 3-4%. Vs 80% armor, lasers are superior.
      Disruptors especially mediums, or large are a sort of worse choice, because rail guns get more competitive due to armor penetration. Even famous shield stripped kinetic arty 15,75 dps, 70% accuracy, 11,02 dps.11,49 with fleet academy, 12,28 with precog comp accuracy on top. That is not counting that it is extremely ineffective vs corvettes, however, vs big clumsy targets, for simplicity I count just accuracy. So, with bonus vs shields, KA gets 14,65-15,28-16,33 dps vs shield. Awesome. Vs heavily armored target (90%) its dps on hull is then 3,08-3,21-3,43 dps.
      Large disruptor 80/83/88% accuracy, base dps 9. Not fancy 15,75, any armor penetration, even worse, 20 less range !!! But, lets do the math. 7,2-7,47-7,92. That translates to 21,6-22,41-23,76 antishield dps, Vs 90% armor, hull damage is 0,72, 0,74, 0,79. So here you have it, a great shield stripper for 80 range, with probably better accuracy than the neutron torpedo if you use precog computers on bsip. Large disruptor weakness is its range, and complete uselessness against any good armor. However, I think it would be interesting to build
      In theory a battleship fleet of 1 large disruptor in the front of the ship, with 5 large lasers could be interesting. Such a Bship doesnt suffer extra large weapon weaknesses, while forgoing tachyons is rather say interesting, but you have no weapon in front of tachyon lance in the first place to clear the shield that usually has to go through shield. Or maybe a giga cannon plus lasers ... but at close range XL is doing almost nothing.
      Large disruptor + 5 large lasers or 2 rail guns and 4 large lasers should do well. Plasmas are marginally superior vs heaviest armor, while doing even less vs shield than lasers.
      Currently Im using 2 kinds of battleships, both have tachyons due to its antiarmor. 1 type uses 4 rail guns vs shields and armor, the other type uses 4 lasers behind the tachyons.

    You never have enough of cheap torpedo corvet. I keep my fleet mostly cruisers and battleship, and when shit hit the fan it hit the grand fleet edict and I put all my ports in corvet production even when my fleet is at capacity, then I just watch their fleet get annihilated bucause they are firering at my corvets which are equipped to destroy their shields

    the starcraft battlecruiser ships have like ALOT of firepower. I am able to have fleets of 31 of those. There are a lot of different weapons.

    my late game is 5 fleets of 50 kinetic battleships with giga cannon + 20 battleships carriers that provides bombers and point defense just in case, but with the long rage of kinetic (100 and 120) it doesn't reach me at all. and behemoth tradition. fleets of arround 150k *5

    The best approach is a fleet with either %100 battleships with 1 titian

    Is this and the individual ship guides still relevant with 2.0?

    Are any youtubers going to make guides for 2.2 in terms of building fleets and making them stronger? I can't figure out why my fleets power isnt going up or how by just adding more ships you can keep up with the massive amount of upkeep this creates :/ I have trouble even dealing with the neutral ai that I encounter just exploring the galaxy please help!!! :(
