    I imagine they left out Anakin because of the perceived "hatred" of the prequels. Hayden Christensen's acting plus the character's script made Anakin one of the more divisive characters of the PT (I still love those movies myself). I feel like it's Disney's way of winking and nudging the audience like, "Hey, we get you, George Lucas and midichlorians are awful and OUR trilogy is way better, right? RIGHT???" They only relied on OT nostalgia to reel people in.
    The result? An empty series finale as rough, coarse, and irritating as sand.

    • @TankHunter678
      @TankHunter678 4 года назад +3

      In theory it works like this: PT is the Rise and Fall of Anakin, OT is the redemption of Anakin and the Fall of the Sith, the ST should of been the Legacy of Anakin.
      So Anakin's presence is not needed as the legacy left behind, his grandchildren, the new Jedi order, the restoration of the Republic, should have been the focus. Effectively a segue into a new saga not about the Skywalkers.
      What we got was basically the Skywalker Saga becoming the Palpatine Saga.

    • @razthegun9715
      @razthegun9715 3 года назад

      @@TankHunter678 Imo the sequels should not have been a skywalker saga. If you want to "resuscitate" a franchise that was stopped for several years you have to separate yourself from it. The concept of anakin "legacy" is a bit too vague for me. Plus, the Anakin saga was just a retcon made twenty years later, in a trilogy that the majority of people hated before the sequels, so I wouldn't really based a new story on that.

    • @TankHunter678
      @TankHunter678 3 года назад +1

      @@razthegun9715 As I said it should of effectively been a segue into a new saga.
      Because the legacy would have been the restoration of the Jedi Order by Luke, the restoration of the Republic by Leia, with the grandchildren and other characters to take up the torch and carry it further. As it being the Skywalker Saga started by Anakin it focuses a lot on his family.
      After all, the retcon you talk about actually started even earlier before the prequels, with Empire Strikes Back when Luke was made the Son of Vader who was Anakin Skywalker. As A New Hope was not made with that story point in mind.
      And the problem with the prequels was not overall story, it was the execution of the story within the limitations of film and dialog. Both of which being weak points for Lucas. Much of what was actually hated was minor problems, things people misunderstood, and the execution problems in particular certain dialog bits. Not to mention the quiet majority actually liked the prequels, the ones who really hated the prequels were a vocal minority. Part of why the prequel memes keep going strong, while the sequels effectively did not get any memes made.

      My guess is that CT wanted TLJ to be changed since Fisher died. RMB's synopsis of the script shows that it was dated BEFORE Fisher died. I can imagine that once she died, the only way to go with CT's story is to kill Leia off in TLJ and use Luke in the Leia role somehow. KK obviously balked at that idea since they kept her alive despite having a year to do reshoots on TLJ.

    • @mattpotter8725
      @mattpotter8725 4 года назад +4

      @@MauiDave74 Didn't Carrie Fisher die just before the release of The Last Jedi? I'm not sure how this allows enough time to reshoot, or even re-edit TLJ to kill off Leia. And even if you're right it assumes that they had already planned out the final part of the trilogy.
      I personally think that using the legacy characters - Luke, Han Solo, Leia, and even Chewie, not to even start on Palpatine were handled so badly they shouldn't have even been in these movies at all. If you are having them in to bring along fans of the OT then you have to treat the characters with the respect they deserve and not just use them as window dressing, that doesn't get you anywhere, as has been seen with the handling of Luke, and even the bringing back of Palpatine from the dead.
      I'd have been happier them not being there, and maybe only referenced in holograms or at places the new characters go to. Surely after the passing of Carrie Fisher, even if I'm right about the timescales, TLJ could have been adjusted so that Luke didn't die projecting himself across the galaxy, whilst Leia could have been given a much more minor role in the final movie in the trilogy, with Luke being given maybe a bit more of a redemption arc in the flesh. That would have somewhat appeased the fans of the Original Trilogy if done correctly.

    The irony here (assuming this is legitimate) is that CT actually tried to make a sequel to The Last Jedi: the movie that the powers at be supposedly thought was the greatest thing ever. If the fan backlash to The Last Jedi was really just a “vocal minority”, and everything was really hunky-dory, Lucasfilm should have had no issue with CT’s EP9.
    Instead, they bring in JJ to go full retcon, because Disney and Lucasfilm knew that the ball had been dropped. The Last Jedi took a hatchet to every potential plot thread to the point where a faithful sequel just couldn’t be a sufficient spectacle.

      @@Fenrir767 Yes I concur. What SHOULD have happened is them using George Lucas' actual sequel scripts to begin with. In his original sequels, it was implied that the "Force story" was about the concept of immortality and the Force, involving the Whills as the overall higher beings in the galaxy, manipulating the Force. It sounds like Plageuis would be revealed to be alive and he has cast aside being a Sith, and pursued what he perceives as a greater goal, to control the Force itself. Lucas sounds like he would have shown us Leia uniting the galaxy (and reunifying it by saga's end) with the Alliance and Imperial Remnant versus a combination of "evil" factions of warlords, criminals and a hidden army led by Plageuis. Luke passing on what he had learned to his own daughter and a next generation of Jedi students. Multiple worlds, a finale on Coruscant etc. I.e. a proper story continuing and concluding from the old and forming ONE SAGA from the get go instead of the mindless aimless TFA. In the Colin cut, I don't think they went with Lucas' story since it continues from the mess that is TFA and TLJ, but yes it would appear that Tor is Plageuis. Coruscant is good, but the whole thing still lacks any coherence versus the Lucas (i.e. the creator's) vision and actual storytelling.

    • @themedianman9712
      @themedianman9712 4 года назад +1

      I think this was the idea at some point, maybe when TFA was conceived. But the keystone to this entire saga is a twist in ESB, and when half the fandom theorized Plageuis factors into all this, the creators thought "But that ruins our twist ending!" Even though anyone paying attention to the movies would know that a Plageuis reveal would tie together the trilogies. And here's something that aspiring writers need to be told, unfortunately: IT'S OKAY for your story to make SENSE!
      "But rule of two!" Easy workaround. Plageuis had no desire for political power. His desire was evil for the sake of evil. He found a way to operate outside the construct. A phantom menace, if you will.
      "But Palpatine said he couldn't save himself from dying!" Oh the bad guy might have bent the truth? For shame! Or maybe Plageius lied by "dying". Or frankly, what good is immortality if you ca't use it? This is just us fiddling in RUclips comments. Point being, if this were our job, it seems we could come up with any number of plausible ways to tell a good story...even if the outcome were somewhat predictable.
      They certainly could have as well. They just got scared after TLJ, and went back to a familiar well.

      Frank Severino I don’t know I’m Rise of Skywalker JJ literally starts out with R2 getting secret data and then Poe skipping through a bunch of places we’ve seen. Then we go to see Rey train with that training ball and the helmet that blocks her sight. Poe comes back with the falcon and then they head off to a desert planet and “find” Lando. Lando tells them about finding that. C3P0 then says some line that he says all the time. They sink in quicksand (because TFA). Chewie gets captured and then Poe Finn and Rey have to rescue the hero while shooting every stormtrooper without even looking at them. The imperials ask “who’s ship is this?” I’m sorry the First Order troops ask. Before saving Chewie they had to go to some planet to erase 3P0s memory so we can remember 3P0. There we see Rey kick everyone’s ass like on Jakku (wow she’s very good at using her staff). The biggest of them all Palpatine just being there and shooting lightning. I’m surprised someone in Rise of Skywalker didn’t have a line saying (after they saw the Final Order fleet) “So they’re big, there’s always a way to blow them up.” That reminds me “The Final Order” remember Order 66 where we saw Jedi die, remember that this Final Order is going to be WORSE! Also Palpatine just shooting lightning... yeah just lightning, nothing with the force or even a lightsaber just lightning for those visuals and memory. Oh yeah and the Death Star remains to find the mcGuffin. JJ seems to need a Mary Sue and a mcGuffin to tell his stories because of he tries to do anything else he would actually make his characters look human for once.
      In Colin’s script the only call backs were quotes or something that seems that would have lasted for maybe 5 minutes at the most. From watching these videos about Colin’s script it seems like he was trying want the Mandalorian is doing. Showing us some cool moments and things that we’ve seen in the past but ultimately is giving us a new product. Especially since Colin wanted to make Kylo go to Mortis, which is something that I think would’ve been better to see Kylo vs. Rey on Mortis instead of some random Sith planet that Palpatine was hiding on because he used the Mary poppins power at the end of Episode 6. The Rise of Skywalker literally wont let you and can’t let you think. You’re to busy seeing everything that you love, there’s nothing wrong with that, but there is something wrong with that when the final movie for a saga literally retcons every single movie.

    When rey says to Finn “people can change, you taught me that”, that would have been so great to include. Not only does it add depth to rey’s compassion and finn’s as well, but it would also (had they kept Kylo alive and revert back to his light side roots) serve as a proper lead towards kylo’s redemption, at least in a more meaningful way compared to the one we see on screen. I don’t agree with the force ghosts helping rey defeat him, or having him killed in general, but that’s just me. Other than that, I like to visualize scenes like this to let us get in the minds of the characters and show us how they learn and grow rather than just cheap one liners and proceed on a Michael bay action pace.

(Rey only was In what I assume to be purgatory) I can’t explain the full thing cause it’s too long but it’s also very very very very very emotionally awesome and I suggest you read the whole thing. It actually rivals other SW films and is probably the closest thing we’ll get to a rated R Disney Star Wars movie or at least more mature. If I can explain Rey here , If this movie was the one that came to be, people’s favorite female Jedi would change from asoka to Rey if not liking them both because her character development along with everyone else’s is literally amazing.

    It also would've been cool if they went back to the temple and turned on the signal that Yoda and Obi-Wan turned off during Order 66 that told all remaining Jedi to come back, and then a bunch of living Jedi that were in hiding just pop up at the same time along with the force ghosts. Far fetched but kinda cool to think about.

Anakin then speaks to warn Kylo of the emperor’s deceitful and manipulative ways. Then the next would be when Rey confronts the emperor along with Luke’s and Obi wan’s force ghost and a redeemed Ben Solo and they could’ve gave him a line like “We’ve come to put an end to you once and for all my old master”. I left a similar comment on SW Theory when he covered this but I feel that with some changes this should have been the episode 8 script.
    Here's why: the Resistance fights instead of flees and is a cohesive unit with no high-ranking officers giving troops a hard time (cough Holdo cough), Kylo the villain with the most screen time dies halfway through the trilogy leaving us with Snoke and the 7000 year old dark side creature as main villains going forward, Rey has doubts and struggles to overcome so the audience can hope she wins instead of having no investment in her since she obviously wins all the time.
    If this was episode 8, imagine where the story could go for episode 9. Especially with the new knowledge of this 7000 year old creature responsible for training sith and releasing them onto the galaxy through all three trilogies and even earlier.

They would also be a good mirror of the kind of thing Kylo wanted to be until they do something like, kill Leia or something. He faces off against the very thing he thought he wanted to be until the light pulls him to who he should be. Just an idea. J.J. I concur. The only script on screen I would like to have seen is George Lucas' actual sequel story outline. Otherwise, the story should be allowed to end with respect and dignity at ROTJ. I wasn't a fan of TLJ, but for me TFA messed things up. Because it didn't even give a "reason to exist". As in why the story isn't finished yet. Whereas it sounds like Lucas was going to show Luke "passing on what he had learned" as per Yoda's wish and an actually hidden overall villain with the concept of the Whills, destiny, Plageuis, etc as well as reunifying the galaxy by Leia. Instead TFA doesn't explain a damn thing, tears down the very premise of the former episodes, doesn't continue the story, and worse focuses on RANDOM characters which in a family saga makes zero sense.

When I found out they had thrown out George's story, suddenly the total absence of continuation, or a plot made sense. TFA started this mess. You shouldn't have to have another film (let alone comics) to explain what the hell the story is. TFA forgets to do the BASIC thing of being Episode SEVEN. It's meant to be the seventh instalment of one greater whole, like a chapter in a book. Instead it acted like some totally separate movie series with random parody cameos from old actors. What a waste. TLJ is bad, but TFA started this. The best analogy I can think of is the old story (you can find it on Google/Wikipedia) of "The Emperor's New Clothes". I prefer the title, “Duel of the Fates” for the Episode 9, even for the version we got.
    Why no Anakin? I think this there is a perception that Hayden Christensen, thus Pre-Dark-Side Anakin, ranks up there with Jar-Jar Binks for negative reactions with fans, so any appearance of Anakin would risk additional ire of the fans, which they obviously wanted to minimize this time.
    In my mental re-write of Episode 9, after Kylo was confronted by the memory of his father and turns and throws his light saber. He would have turned back and seen Anakin and maybe Luke. This would have signified that Ben completed his return to the light side.
    There could have been potential for key conversations with these force ghosts that would have illuminated the Skywalker legacy. One could have been how balance in the Force does not mean that there are equal numbers of Jedi and Sith as is believed by much of the fandom and was intimated in TLJ, but means the absence of the Dark Side in power, or whatever it means according to Abrams, Kennedy, the Star Wars Story Group, Disney, or whoever. Or, maybe the conversation could have given Ben greater purpose and motivation for following Rey. Or, even the future of the Light Side or something that would have portrayed what was trying to be accomplished from a big-picture perspective.
    The one addition to the lore that RoS makes that I liked was why the Emperor wanted Rey and previously Luke to strike him down. The old master lives on in the new master through this transfer. It explains a lot.
    Is this how Darth Plagueis found a way to live forever, or did he just discover that the Sith Lords had been living on through the apprentices that killed their masters from the beginning? The previous saga episodes now have new under currents and conversations take on new meaning with this addition including potentially the story of .Sheev Palpatine and his creation of a family and subsequent turn to the Dark Side.

    Thanks for the video! And yes, I enjoy your longer videos, and the shorter ones. All your videos are great.
    I may be jumping to conclusions, but this script does sound much better than the actual Episode IX. In particular I liked that the main villains are Kylo and The First Order, it doesn't undermine the earlier movies by bringing back the Emperor. And it seems like the characters are much ore developed. Rey in particular has to fight for survival and actually struggles, which makes her more relatable than the demigod in the movie. Also, the older characters are better used.
    But the main reason I like this script is the way it was presented, with RMB reading it to us and adding his spontaneous commentary, then other channels taking up the story and doing the same thing. It reminded me of the way I experienced the original trilogy back in the 80's: first there'd be the comic book version of each movie and the novelization, and based on that my friends and I would talking and speculate endlessly about what was coming. We'd have our own little story sessions in schoolyards and living rooms, acting out what we'd heard and what we'd like to see with our action figures. Then, when the movie finally arrived months later it'd be this huge EVENT that was both familiar and strange at the same time. It felt like we owned the story in a way, because we'd been listening to it and adding to it for so long.

    Then they could even confront a certain voice in the distance that corrupted him, and take down the first order (redeeming Kylo for helping it off the ground).

    Tbh, I’ve found that every set of movies has had revisions that I didn’t like.
    ROTJ could’ve had Wookiees instead of Ewoks.
    The prequels could’ve handled the clone wars better and spent more time developing good character dialogue. Maybe make Anakin older, or remove the “attachments is forbidden” portion of the Jedi Code. Some of the novelizations before the prequels painted a very different Clone Wars, etc.
    The sequels could’ve had a cohesive story that included more of Anakin Skywalker’s legacy and less “new ideas” that broke the lore established by the original 6. It could’ve focused on descendants of the original characters.
    At this point, I’ve come to accept that Star Wars can’t be made perfect by talking about what could have been. But hopefully future writers and directors will take notice...we don’t like plot holes or poor character development, and we don’t like rehashing old stories.

    It would be cool if when Kylo threw the helmet off the balcony the camera pans up and down and it shows kylo throw the helmet and the camera goes down following the helmet, and then the camera pans back up to reveal anakains force ghost behind him. It would be one last shootout to Hayden Christensen and be cook cinematography.

      @@vietnamd0820 I don't really agree. Imo if we wanna be strict 7 broke the saga by not "restoring the balance" with anakin. But if you wanna do a sequel it's obvious that there has to be an enemy, so let's disregard that. The 9 broke the saga even further by reviving Palpatine (and not anakin) who was the dumbest thing one could do.
      The two major critics that i hear about 8 are the "change" in Luke and the "democratic force for all". For luke it can certainly be hurtful for some fans but it down't really break the saga continuity and for the force, christ in the prequels we have tens of thousand of jedi it's not like only the sky walkers can wield it.
      So for me 7 and 9 have done a better job at destroying the saga, than 8

      7: Han Solo goes back to smuggling? Ridiculous. He was so important to the rebellion that it would be surprising if he ever needed to work again. Why wouldn’t he be taken care of by the new republic?
      8: Luke gives up on the Jedi because Ben Solo turned evil. Yet Luke knows Obi Wan didn’t give up when Anakin turned evil. And where’s the force ghosts of Obi Wan, Anakin and Yoda to guide Luke prior to Luke cutting himself off from the Force?
      9: Palpatine is back, ruining the plot line of Anakin fulfilling the prophecy of restoring balance to the Force by destroying the Sith.

    Overall this is a marginally better-sounding story than what we got in The Rise of Skywalker, though to be sure that's not a high bar. I have problems with this story, of course. I actually don't like the title "Duel of the Fates" because it would be confused with the song of the same name. I like that Rey has a lightsaber staff; that's what she should have gotten to begin with. It's good that the Knights of Ren are developed but it's too late; that should have been done in The Force Awakens. I like that there's interaction between Luke and Kylo Ren, and just more Luke in general. Obviously no revived Palpatine is a big boon. The whole call for help plot is ridiculous; another MacGuffin quest instead of doing the hard work of fighting a galactic-scale war. Pretty much everything that happens with Rey, Kylo, Torvallum, Remnacore, Mortis, etc. in the second half sounds dumb.

    As much as I love almost everything Star Wars. Nobody will be able to capture the magic of the OT. It was the perfect space fantasy with perfect actors for their roles. It was and might still be the greatest movie trilogy every made. ESB is the peak of Star Wars and always will be.
