Was a restaurant mgr . for the Marriott at Shipyard Plantation in 1987 at Hilton Head S.C . Received a phone call from my Mom at work around 10 PM that my Dad had died . Left work to go home , pack and make the 6 hr drive to Raleigh NC . When I got in my car leaving work , this song was on the radio . I'll always remember how it touched my soul .
I am sitting in Raleigh NC, a month after losing my mom, thinking about being in college at UNCW in '87, listening to this. I am thinking of you, thinking of your mom & dad. All the things we didn't know then ....
The highest is God's love for us, it was there for you, in a way that was spot on and touched your heart. This version is like a hymn giving it the 'respect' it deserves
Richard Miller No daddy complex. The AUTHOR and writer, Steve, and his daughter, both oh so so very extraordinary! La art lives!!! Let art too. Duh!! Sassy.
Steve Winwood never gets enough recognition for the music genius he is! 100% authentic and always original!! His soulful/bluesy/jazzy vocals transcends multiple generations. Steve Winwood is my favorite performing artist of all time.
Buddy Ayala I will never forget rattling down the streets of Georgetown in my VW bus on our way to Woodstock while transfixed by the BLIND FAITH eight track monster cassette introducing us to Steve Winwood and that great band....
Alton Grimes don't forget Winwood had some great moments as singer with The Spencer Davis Band before when he was only 15....Blind Faith was only a one album "supergroup" as they were called then....
Buddy Ayala Steve doesn't need recognition by anyone or to be vindication. he is a musical genius, and was as a child.his music spans many generations, and was in rocks first supergroup, with Eric Clapton. he is a genius alone.
Note how Steve doesn't sing over his daughter -- that is class and few artists do that. I've been in love with him since 1969 -- Wow a cool guy who was my age, had long hair and was a rock musician. So glad he's been my heartthrob all these decades.
His choice of very subtle backing vocals was brilliant, letting his daughter shine on one of his songs and only accentuating and complimenting her voice.
You hit the nail on the head. And the best part is the song takes on a completely different feel with Lilly leading. This version of this song was the one playing when I met the woman that I love to this day. What a beautiful cut!
I've loved Steve Winwood since I first heard him in 1987 and it took many years to discover how much and many songs and groups he blessed us with and just today I hear him with his daughter and the beautiful angel voices together sent shivers down my spine.... this is on repeat for the week... No words! Thank you Winwoods!
I don't know if anyone else relates to this song this way, but it's more of a connection to spirit song than it is a love song. Accepting where you are and being open to it. It's a Beautiful duet.
I got the Same Spiritual Sound from it - I listened to this immediately after Dylan's " Trying to get to heaven " from "Time out of Mind" and I realized that what is worth getting is worth crying for
I love Steve Winwood and I've always loved this song, but this version is just gorgeous, and then I see that it's father and daughter and it's that much more wonderful!
The love a father has for his children is beautiful and when it is silenced by death, it makes no sense. Huge loss and unbeknowst to many...'cept us. Huge loss.
This is far and away one of the most beautiful and yet painful songs I've ever heard. It's more like a prayer. It moved me to tears the first time I heard it and it moved me to tears still.
If you're associating this with a prayer and being moved to tears, consider the reality of God. The holy, almighty God that created heaven and earth. Perfectly holy, just, righteous and powerful. Yet you, and I, and all have sinned against the Holy One who gave us life. Who has given us every breath, every beat of our heart, and every good thing. We have chosen to hate Him. Yet He is so perfect in love and mercy that He sent His Son, Jesus, who is God, to this earth. The King of glory, humbled Himself as a baby, being born of a virgin. He lived a perfect life, righteous, without sin. He fulfilled the Law of God that none of us could and all of us choose not to, for which we deserve everlasting judgement in the fury and holy wrath of God, hell. Then Jesus, the Son of God, the Lord of life, gave up His own life. He allowed sinful men to wrongly accuse Him, wrongly condemn Him, and wrongly crucify Him. The all powerful, holy God climbed up on a cross and was crucified after being beaten, spat on, whipped, and mocked, having a crown of thorns placed on His head. Then on that cross, the Father poured out the entirety of His wrath on His Son for the sins of those who believe in Him. The eternal punishment that is beyond comprehension, poured out on the Lamb of God, the Son of God, Jesus the Christ. Then, declaring 'it is finished', Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords gave up His own life, by His own authority and died. The immortal, uncreated, holy, awesome Son of God, died the death that sinners deserve while taking upon Himself the wrath we deserve. Perfect love had been shown. Then three days later, God raised Him from the dead, declaring He IS the Lord of lords, and King of kings, the Alpha and Omega, the Holy Son of God who was and who is and who is to come. Declaring His sacrifice is accepted and death has been conquered. Then He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father in glory, awaiting to return to the earth to gather up to Himself His people, those who believe in Him, and to judge the world. He will return and establish His kingdom forevermore and judge the living and the dead. We all deserve eternal, holy judgement, everlasting wrath in hell for what we've done. We cannot earn our way out of it, we've all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. there is only one way to heaven. there is only one salvation. Jesus Christ, the Lord. He paid the price, His sacrifice, His blood. He is the Way and the Truth and the Life and no one will come to the Father but through Him. We cannot earn it, we do not deserve it. But He made the way. We must repent, to turn away from our sins, recognizing we are evil sinners who at our very core are against God, that we deserve hell, and that only by the grace and mercy of God by His love can we escape it by calling out to Christ for forgiveness and believing in Him alone. Seek God, seek the Savior, Jesus Christ, the Son, who IS Lord. Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. You can do that now, while He offers His gift of salvation to all those who repent and believe in Him. Or you can continue to deny Him. You'll bow your knee and confess Him, and you will be judged and sent to hell. Repent and believe on the Lord Jesus. Love Him, serve Him. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.
As a child of the 80s, really loved this song & sang it all the time. However, this is the first time I ever heard this version by Steve's daughter Lilly. And yes, it was the first time the song ever brought a tear to my eyes. Her voice is very soulful & moving.
Happy for all of us to hear it; it's not just a man singing with his daughter (wonderful enough!) it's a great musician creating magic with his daughter.
When I sobered up in 1981there was a lot of music I couldn't listen to anymore. As toxicity faded and i realized the words I'd been listening to, I just couldn't. Not sure when this song came out but when it did, ohhh how my spirit leaped to it. My spirit jumps whenever I hear it. What a beautiful rendition this is. Thank you.

I just discovered this version. Utterly amazing. Her voice pierces my soul. And in the chorus, his vocals are slightly louder, almost cradling hers. I usually don't like remakes or covers but I have to say, I believe this is her song now. Unbelievably beautiful.
I think this is precious father and daughter singing beautifully together. She's inherited his singing ability. He has one of the most amazing voices out there. This song was a hit in the 80's and he started in the 60's shows that real talent never dies out!
🌂 Academy brought me here... but this songs Beauty touched my heart. I've been Steve Winwood fan for a long time and I remember buying this album. I never heard this version until the show, but I'm glad I did
This song is so special to me. In all of the 14 years of my life I have never seen my dad cry, but this song causes him to cry Edit: September 18th 2023 we lost my dad. I forgot I left this comment, but every so often I come back to Steve Winwood when I miss him. He's enjoying a higher love, wherever his next adventure takes him
Steve's content to stay in the background enhancing his daughter's rendition of his song. He's the most "unaffected" superstar. The ethereal beauty and perfect execution of this version is astounding! Thanks Steve and you too, Lilly.
I really enjoyed this version without realising it was Stevie's daughter, and hearing them harmonise is something quite magical, the song is timeless, but to hear father and daughter, reignited my love for this song. What a powerful, loving, yet soft and soothing version 👌❤️
Steve Winwood's songs bring a gentle spiritual quality to the pop world. In some respects, he seems in harmony with George Harrison, each giving their own perspective on ways to rise into a loftier reflection on what we're here for. When the body slips away, what will be left, only Higher Love, the Higher Worlds and soaring beyond the Earth. Thank you Steve for the reminders in music.
@@jeni719 Christ and Krishna are one. If you study the teachings carefully, Their messages are very similar. I understand the lyrics, and value the intention therein.
@@misterchristopher8857 Sorry not true, there is only one truth. Satan is the great deceiver, Jesus is the truth. Must get this right, it is your eternal destination.
When it was first released (1986), I shared it with my father -- to pay him back for turning me on to George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord". For obvious reasons, this version is dear to me.
What a beautiful rendition. I always liked Dad's original but between his soulful voice and all the synths, I could not make out all the lyrics. What poetry in them. I can't wait to see Dad with the Doobies and Robert Cray in MA this summer. What a ton of talent for one show.
Touching and poignant to hear Steve Winwood and his daughter singing together. Back in the day Steve Winwood`s songs stood out for me.....his soaring voice and inspirational songs still touch me to this day......Beautiful collaboration.
Her voice is amazing. The harmony vocal dub of her voice is spot on. Then to hear Steve do backup on the chorus. Blissfully simple yet deeply heartwarming. Well done father and daughter!
Just stumbled across this gem ❤ I loved the original, and I love this even more!! So right to my soul, and so right on with what's going on in our country right now. Seek the Higher Love, folks ✌️
I've been attending concerts for well over 50 years and have seen most every major act from the 60's thru the mid 80's and beyond, but one of the most memorable was seeing Steve play with Blind Faith. He was a dominating presence onstage (without trying to stand out) and one of the most engaging talents I ever had the opportunity to witness. Shame I wasn't able to see him more than once. His daughter has a beautiful voice. What a joy it must be for them to perform together.
Another song about the desire for Infinite Liberty and what kind of a world that would usher in. A literal paradise where we realize the higher love. Notice they are not pining for Slavery, regulation or restrictions. Paradise has none of those things. Liberty is paradise is the higher love you have been singing of.
I’m an old hippie, and have loved Steve Winwood for so long, I had the pleasure of seeing Traffic in concert several times. And his daughter Lilly is an amazing artist as is her father !!
It's so incredible that Steve's been involved in so many awesome songs but not only has his talent to wrote and perform remained but ... it's genetic. So awesome
I need a box of tissues when I listen to this song. I would to hear father and daughter sing John barleycorn must die. Also sea of joy and roll right stones. A girl can dream can't she?
I grew up as kid in the 80's and always loved his music awesome to see his daughter do this with her dad as back up couldn't have got anyone better to do this with.
Was just too young to catch Traffic the first time round. Missed them the second time around. So I go to see Steve anytime I can now. Great catching him with Lilly in Bristol while with my son, who has inherited a love of all the great music we were so privileged to hear, all those years ago...
I was weeping and weeping and weeping. Such a poignant performance by our next generation! Thank you for allowing my sadness and hope to rise to the surface.
+Chloe - I'm with you… from the first time I heard the song on the Hershey's commercial I was very touched. Lilly has a gorgeous voice. Daughter and Dad singing really got to me. Thanks for your comment! :-)
+Chloe I share in your sentiment. I greatly enjoyed this song as did my (then) 13 year old daughter back in 1986. We now both enjoy it with my 11 year old granddaughter. 3 generations of sharing music together and being touched by this tender melody. It pleases me that my granddaughter has a great ear for music and loves listening to it with me.
hearing Steve in the background reminds me what a great voice he has. but I prefer this version to the original- I think the subject suits a ballad sound better. Lilly does a wonderful job
I think he just keeps getting better. I know he reflects back on the days when he was with Traffic but to me that was not as good as his later stuff especially when he plays with Eric Clapton and now his daughter!

Tears streaming down my face when hearing this. A special song between my own dad and I has now been taken to a completely new level. Well done Lilly and Mr. Winwood. Thank you for this.
From a song writing point of view this song is a masterclass. Uses every chord in its key and is perfectly balanced harmonically and melodically. Not bad Mr Winwood not bad.
Liily, My favorite daughter & dad song. Reminds me of my daughter. Who I love so much. As I would say to my daughter, "i am so proud of you" . Enjoy your song and your dad's song.
Good pipes run in the family -clearly. A guy who can sing higher than a female and still sound like a man and a daughter who can hit some really low notes and still sound like an angel. Beautiful. I have always loved this song and Steve's voice. A+++
Hershey's commercial brought me here. I think this version maybe even better than the original. Looking forward to hearing more from Lilly in the future. Funny how it seems Im finding most of the songs I like from TV show and commercials nowadays.
This family is made for music, but won´t be easy for Lilly as a professional musician.... the father (the great voice and organ Steve Winwood) was in the right moment at the right place.... please don´t misunderstand my words, Lilly´s voice is very beautiful and I wish her every good thing on earth....
This is incredible!! I love Steve Linwood and never envisioned another version of this song or just how great the lyrics are. And his daughter gives it a great sound. The arrangement is just fantastic!
I love Steve Winwood and stumbled across this. I actually think this is what this song was meant to be: a softer, gentler, more romantic version. She has a soft and beautiful, but forceful & powerful voice, and hearing Steve's yearning vocals in the background is a perfect balance. This is my new favorite version of this song. Thank you, Winwoods!
We need more from you Lilly. When your dad first played and produced this album... It was life changer for me. I was a new dad then too. He brought me back to certain ideals I'd forgotten. My girls have grown up and done so much. I can safely say without Arc of A Diver I would have failed them.
Very delicate version. I hope Lily can go through all her stages and passages with music. Her father did. He grew up and grew through bands developing his art. His diversity is massive and he reflected his generation. Now as a father there he still is……being himself and continuing his art authentically.
The first time I sat and listened to John Barleycorn Must Die, I was blown out of This Humble Abode. I was in Surf City, NJ. I was 13 yrs old. I have been listening to the progression of these guys ever since. These are the songs of our lives.

This song meant different things to me in '86 when I was 18. Today it's a far deeper meaning. Social media and the detachment that brings has made the world a darker, lonely place . Back in the High Life was a beautiful album in '86. It now becomes a comfort and reminder that nothing replaces the need for real human connection.
Her voice just captures and captivates me. Her voice feels like home, like wherever that voice is, is where I need to be. It pulls at me from somewhere within and makes me yearn to hear more. Her voice is completely heavenly, like that of a Goddess!

It's nice meeting you here
This song is so special to me. In all of the 14 years of my life I have never seen my dad cry, but this song causes him to cry
Edit: September 18th 2023 we lost my dad. I forgot I left this comment, but every so often I come back to Steve Winwood when I miss him. He's enjoying a higher love, wherever his next adventure takes him
I get it. I started crying when I heard it too! His daughter has an amazing voice and this song w/ Steve in the background sounds fantastic!
❤️
Cuz this world sucks
Yep, brings me to tears

Yes. They really do. 💖

Steve's content to stay in the background enhancing his daughter's rendition of his song. He's the most "unaffected" superstar. The ethereal beauty and perfect execution of this version is astounding! Thanks Steve and you too, Lilly.
It is phenomenal. She has a similar amazing tone or tenor to her voice. Chefs kiss 🧑🍳💋spectacular!!
I really enjoyed this version without realising it was Stevie's daughter, and hearing them harmonise is something quite magical, the song is timeless, but to hear father and daughter, reignited my love for this song. What a powerful, loving, yet soft and soothing version 👌❤️
God, I get weak in the knee when she sings this! 😁
Amazing they turned a catchy feel good song into a better, powerful emotional song. Just wow.
Great duet! I can only imagine all the wonderful musicians she had in her everyday life as she grew up, like Uncle Clapton, and Uncle Harrison, etc.
George Harrison? Gotta hear original., Again and again like so many months? Yikes
George Harrison "My sweet Lord" was Hari Kirshner, not Jesus Christ. Listen to the end of the song, it was very deceptive.
I love this side of RUclips, no arguing, no hateful remarks, just love and understanding :)
Brian Haley having a song like this with these 2 generations of extraordinary performers- what's not to like?
Indeed.
I hate you.

i agree :)
Dad must be so proud and rightfully so. What a beautiful and moving rendition.
The apple did not fall far from the tree......Very nice.
Tom Howland chip off the old block so to speak
She has an angelic voice...very nice!
And their voices blend so perfectly
Tom Howland better qousten how do you fix the apple from the core?
Absolutely beautiful. I love this song.
This song is timeless...think about what is happening now - we need a higher love.
Still resonates within me...even after 30 years!! A wonderful song!!!
What a beautiful rendition. I always liked Dad's original but between his soulful voice and all the synths, I could not make out all the lyrics. What poetry in them. I can't wait to see Dad with the Doobies and Robert Cray in MA this summer. What a ton of talent for one show.
Nice Lilly!! Hey years ago at a Catholic Mass the priest played us this song! a true Christian message - Thank you and God Bless your family!
Thank the good lord for Steve Winwood.
Nice job, Lilly.
I'm sure Steve is one proud father.
I got a daughter just like it too, they even look alike and have a similar approach. (Next Generation).

Too (censored) right, that! She's the voice that Stevie always wanted... no testosterone, just pure tone.

Just stumbled across this gem ❤ I loved the original, and I love this even more!! So right to my soul, and so right on with what's going on in our country right now. Seek the Higher Love, folks ✌️
The perfect song for this time in history I'll continue waiting for a higher love
So beautiful. Well blended harmony. Blessed family
Hello Mary,
How’re you doing?
Thanks for your love, support and for being an amazing fan! ❤️
It's nice meeting you here
I've been attending concerts for well over 50 years and have seen most every major act from the 60's thru the mid 80's and beyond, but one of the most memorable was seeing Steve play with Blind Faith.
Wow....I wondered why I loved this so much...then realized it was Steve's daughter... incredible!
joy!!
I teared up. Beautiful.
I’m an old hippie, and have loved Steve Winwood for so long, I had the pleasure of seeing Traffic in concert several times. And his daughter Lilly is an amazing artist as is her father !!
My favorite Steve Winwood song, I’m crying listening to this version.
Wow!
I wish my dad was still alive and I could sing with him. Sometimes I think were ever he is now he hears me. Keep making music, you guys -
I just love that Steve Winwood is now Chaka Khan for his daughter. Thank you for this great song Lilly and Steve!
I grew up as kid in the 80's and always loved his music awesome to see his daughter do this with her dad as back up couldn't have got anyone better to do this with.
Best version ever for this song. I absolutely love it.
I love this version so much. This is the perfect father daughter duo ever.
You have Steve in the background with the nostalgia reminder and Lilly up front pulling heart strings.. I love it.
Thank you both. ❤
Was just too young to catch Traffic the first time round. Missed them the second time around. So I go to see Steve anytime I can now. Great catching him with Lilly in Bristol while with my son, who has inherited a love of all the great music we were so privileged to hear, all those years ago...
Hello Julia,

I was weeping and weeping and weeping. Such a poignant performance by our next generation! Thank you for allowing my sadness and hope to rise to the surface.
+Chloe - I'm with you… from the first time I heard the song on the Hershey's commercial I was very touched. Lilly has a gorgeous voice. Daughter and Dad singing really got to me. Thanks for your comment! :-)
Agreed, I've been searching for this version. It's quite touching!
+Chloe Beautiful. Eyes are the windows of the soul, tears simply keep the windows clean so the heart can see. You are beautiful.
wow... exactly what you said
I heard this song first in the umbrella academy and now I am addicted to this song❤
hearing Steve in the background reminds me what a great voice he has. but I prefer this version to the original- I think the subject suits a ballad sound better. Lilly does a wonderful job
I think he just keeps getting better. I know he reflects back on the days when he was with Traffic but to me that was not as good as his later stuff especially when he plays with Eric Clapton and now his daughter!
I got a little shiver when Steve's voice joined in.
Tears to my eyes every time!
I agree, I much prefer this arrangement of the song, it’s beautiful and timeless. I didn’t actually like the original arrangement
Agree.
The Winwoods. Just won my vote... love this

if you can listen to this and not weep you have no soul, just so achingly beautiful.
A female expression so beautiful by the daugter of Steve Winwood. They sing together in great harmony Higher Love!
Winwood is something else. No words needed. Love this he's so laid back. She gives a different meaning to the song.
Tears streaming down my face when hearing this. A special song between my own dad and I has now been taken to a completely new level.
Well done Lilly and Mr. Winwood. Thank you for this.

Some songs can only become more beautiful with time. This one , is one of them. Powerful words that echoes to what matter.
From a song writing point of view this song is a masterclass. Uses every chord in its key and is perfectly balanced harmonically and melodically. Not bad Mr Winwood not bad.
if this don't make you smile, you got no heart. WOW.
harmony that only a father can provide his daughter. Gorgeous!
Hershey's commercial brought me here. I think this version maybe even better than the original. Looking forward to hearing more from Lilly in the future. Funny how it seems Im finding most of the songs I like from TV show and commercials nowadays.

the suits have ruined radio forever... quality always rises to the top, eventually. Thanks for posting this Donna!
W Lee thats a great commercial as well!
i know im not the only one that got goosebumps...
I believe she makes the song even more beautiful
This family is made for music, but won´t be easy for Lilly as a professional musician.... the father (the great voice and organ Steve Winwood) was in the right moment at the right place.... please don´t misunderstand my words, Lilly´s voice is very beautiful and I wish her every good thing on earth....
This is a simple, beautiful arrangement of the song. And, Lilly Winwood has such a great voice. Thanks for posting.
What a song. What a girl, what a man. What a lovely version. Just perfection. A message we need today.
This is absolutely beautiful.
We need more from you Lilly. When your dad first played and produced this album... It was life changer for me. I was a new dad then too. He brought me back to certain ideals I'd forgotten. My girls have grown up and done so much. I can safely say without Arc of A Diver I would have failed them.
Apple, tree and all. Steve Winwood, perhaps the greatest rock musician ever. Rock on Lilly, you have talent in spades!
HOLY-SMOKE what a wonderful video. 😊
Very delicate version. I hope Lily can go through all her stages and passages with music. Her father did. He grew up and grew through bands developing his art. His diversity is massive and he reflected his generation. Now as a father there he still is……being himself and continuing his art authentically.
Hello Jennifer,

The first time I sat and listened to John Barleycorn Must Die, I was blown out of This Humble Abode. I was in Surf City, NJ. I was 13 yrs old. I have been listening to the progression of these guys ever since. These are the songs of our lives.
ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONGS...THE LYRICS!!
It's quite possible I just heard an angel wing. Beautiful.
Poetry in it's purest form. Lifts the spirit like few other things out there.
606 people have no souls....I wish I could save you all. This is a Father singing backup vocals for his daughter to one of his most popular songs....How can you not like this?
So simple, yet so complex.....this is a stellar version :)

Beautiful performance of such a classic song.
