Same director as "1917", absolutely incredible films. I remember renting this as a kid and hoping for a more "gritty" war movie that had more believable combat and fighting than most. It wasn't what I expected, but I couldn't stop watching.
This movie makes you feel that the Gulf War took place on another planet. It feels distant, weary and hollow. Sam Mendes and Roger Deakins did an outstanding job. The scene for me is when the oil is burning. That moment, perfect cinema. Moments like that made a movie so memorable. Shame that Roger didn't received any nomination when it's actually awesome. Others would have done shaky camera like Paul Greengrass (amazing work), Deakins used handheld camera and it's immersive.
This makes me want a "Beauty of 1917". Sam Mendes is a genius at making war films. His other work is generally damn good too, loved your videos on those.
One of the best war movies ever made, it's up there with Saving Private Ryan and Apocalypse Now. The cinematagraphy in Jarehead is amazing. Roger Deakins is the man.
Man I love your contents, its not particularly hard to make nor its very conplex idea but its a great idea nontheless. Simple, clean with a refined senses of taste that can be used literally on all movies and bring the beauty out of them
Please make one on *Man of Steel* too. And after release of all episodes of *The Falcon and the Winter Soldier* please make one on that too. Cinematography in its last four episodes was beautiful, much better than cinematography of most of the MCU things.

Biggest compliment Deakins got was he was asked how many days they shot this in Kuwait. He laughed and said they filmed it in a hanger in Los Angeles.

I like the cinematography in Jarhead. I think this was heavily inspired by Full Metal Jacket but they depict it on modern wars.
