Both of these ladies are just magic vocal musicians and exceptional entertainers.
A little history about this song. Dolly wrote it as a goodbye for Porter Wagoner, a singer who she got her start with and she was then breaking off from to go her own way. She didn't "kick him to the curb" as is so often believed. She didn't hate or even dislike him. She and Porter both believed she could be so much more than she was, alone, and it was agreed she would go on her own. She wrote this song as a farewell to Porter and to basically tell him that even though I'm gone, "I will always love you". She and Porter remained close friends until Porter's death in 2007. Both had extremely successful careers after the split.
