Our congregation is reading the Bible Chronologically this year. My wife and I will do this together for the 1st time after 44 years. We May need prayers 😂
When I was adult Sunday school teacher in my church we spent one year on the Old Testament and one year on the New Testament. I think it is a good timeline to go through the Bible in whole.

I tried to read through the Bible so many times and I just don't have the type of brain that wants to hop back and forth between Old and New testaments.. I found a chronological Bible and read the Bible through five or six years in a row. I was reading God's story.. His-story 😊 I started to say good luck but who needs luck when we have God? Maybe being infallibly correct, within yourself, about the following question would help: In the first four paragraphs of the Bread of Life Discourse what had Jesus Christ, alone, infallibly instructed the Jews, including Apostles, about the substance of the Bread of Life up until this happened “The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” a) substance of bread b) substance of Jesus’ flesh c) substance of manna d) substance of bread and Jesus’ flesh e) Jesus had not, as yet, infallibly taught the Jews and Apostles anything definite regarding the substance of the Bread of Life so far.

Amen. I have been blessed by Wright's teaching for quite some time. I Love this guy. We need a New Testament For Everyone with an OT. I know Paul and the NT is his forte but a complete canon with his commentary would be awesome! Maybe even a NRSV with some study notes based on Tom's most popular works. Blessings

Excellent video. I love to read the Bible. Many places are so enthralling. There are point of study that I really believe the study is needed, but I do think just the reading is exciting. I found the Spirit often highlights parts that I need to focus on. And I do.

Lately I’ve been feeling called to go deeper in my faith and begin spending more time in the Bible. Coincidentally I’m looking at a “Jesus centered” bible at the moment to help explain how the Old Testament points to Jesus. I also appreciate your idea of using a plan to read through the Bible as opposed to beginning just reading from cover to cover. I tried that before and found it difficult and frustrating.

Chat GPT is a fantastic Bible study partner. I tell it what chapters and versus I’m reading and ask for insights and connections to other parts of the Bible. It’s broadening my understanding and deepening my faith.
Memorizing has always been difficult for me. So taking Jesus' parables and sayings as a cue, I look for simplified principles and patterns that build the biblical storylines and discussions. This has turned out to be far more valuable to me than rote memorization.

A related question… Christians today use the phrase “word of God” to mean the Bible…both collectively and when referring to any given scriptures. But as you mention, the apostles did not have the Bible as we do today. So what did the New Testament authors mean when they said “word” in that context? For example, when John speaks of “the word” and when James talks about the “word of God”. They didn’t just mean the ancient scriptures, right? It doesn’t seem like we’re necessarily on the “same page” (pun intended) as the apostles when we causally use the phrase “word of God” to simply refer to the Bible. Thanks!
I really love how the Gospel of John intricately from its beginning to the end, fallows the Old Testament to give us a superb Biography of the Christ Jesus and Apostle Paul comes along by the Holy Spirit and confirms John Gospel.
I love the recommendation to start with John and the Psalms. Any of the Gospels, read a chapter at a time with a psalm each day is a great way to begin. Set an every day practice. Have a beautiful translation. Fall in love with the beauty of it first, then follow your heart. Maybe you're called to the epistles next or Revelations, or Jonah or Exodus. Order doesn't matter because each book of the Bible is a book. Ester is wonderfully interesting. And proverbs is uplifting. One thing is, I'd always be reading a chapter of a Gospel (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John) or Acts along side whatever book you're working your way through to keep you rooted in Jesus.
I love that Matthew, Mark, Luke and John taught Jesus from the Old testament scriptures. Since they were just then writing the New testament. When you recognize it (Genesis 3:15..), Jesus is throughout the old testament. Even when God told Abram that he would bless the world through him, that was referring to Jesus. So many other prophecies of Jesus in the Old testament!

I am currently reading Revelation for everyone however im puzzled at Rev 13 where you say that John has little doubt that 666 represents Nero is this correct or am i reading it wrong. I ask due to me struggling with the different views regarding dating im sure you will understand thanks

My friend that is a very good question and don’t stop asking questions. Jesus welcomes questions. Jesus never rebuked Thomas when Thomas doubted and questioned but He showed him the evidence. Every time Isreal disobeyed God, the consequences were dire because God looks ahead and see what will happen as a result. Contextually I believe Deuteronomy 20:16 gives us the answer you ask, ESPECIALLY VS 18 of that Chapter. Always remember that during that time God chose these people to be a people set apart to be priests, a sort of light to the darkness in the world and He give them a set of rules to follow to execute that light bearing plan but they fail miserably. In 1 Samuel Chapter 15 and continuing into Chapter 16 contextually speaking again the answer might be shown in what happened to King Saul in the end and the conversation King Saul had with the prophet Samuel.

The Bible is a compilation, not a traditional book. When you realize much of the New Testament is based on oral tradition and was written decades after the fact, you can approach the Bible on a more realistic level.
I argue that atheists need to read the Bible so as to have an informed opinion, rather than relying on strawmen and received prejudice as they usually do in my experience. People who like to pride themselves on being "rational" and "scientific" ought to do much more research than is typically the case, and not be afraid of catching a "brain virus" from an unfamiliar text. I also often think about the need for introductions to scripture for socialists, since Christians and scripture played such a large role in the foundation of socialist movements, parties and trades unions all over the world. There my argument would be that in any case, whether dialectical materialists or others think it's a bad thing or just irrelevant and unhelpful, there are always going to be Christians anyway, for a host of reasons that are easy enough to elaborate, and that therefore it is useful and necessary to have familiarity with scripture from the point of view of inspiring and recruiting people, and making sure they do not feel persecuted or marginalised. Whatever gets people reading scripture and tolerating the faith cannot be a bad thing. But also of course there is also a consistent class analysis and critique of class society throughout scripture which has moved people into anti-capitalist politics since before there was modern class politics, and recurrently inspires Churches to live out the kingdom of God on earth in community of goods and communal living, like the Hutterite colonies.
The Godhead Explained: There is only one thing God keeps from Jesus, and that is the hour and day of his return (Mark 13:32). Outside of this, Jesus has the full mind of God; likewise, the Holy Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God through the mind of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 2:10). This is why Jesus said, “all that the Father has is mine, therefore he, the Holy Spirit, will take what is mine and show it to you” (John 16:15). Everything comes from the mind of God, the Father, first and is revealed through Jesus by the Holy Spirit to us. This is the truth of the Godhead. Jesus said he can *_do nothing_* of himself, but what he sees the Father do, that is what he does likewise (John 5:19). For they are one in spirit and in truth.
The Bible is Jesus. Jesus is the Father. Read the Bible and sing worship to spend quality time with God. Do that daily and read the Bible straight through from cover to cover. God is the teacher, He knows what He’s doing. Throw away all other books; God is the master.

i find reading Paul's work, Genesis and Exodus over and over really keeps me centered on the narrow path, especially Philippians ch 2 .
