The moment of truth. Did my repair job work??
Support my shows by using my Amazon store at astore.amazon.c...
Remember, I am no expert so take everything you see with that in mind.
Thanks for watching.
Yes!!! Tom, this is the kind of video I really enjoy. Glad You got the old DX-302 repaired. Kudos for Liquid Nails. I'll have to remember that glue. I like the hands on videos that You do...

Thank you very much. Glad you like it.

11:33 - 11:43 "The gears are moving.....the winner!". Those ten seconds of utter elation actually brightened my work day. Glad it's a keeper :-)
I was very happy that it works. I don't know how long it will hold.

Really enjoying this series!
I owned a DX-300 for about 6 months.
I was put off by the poor selectivity. (The 300's "Wide/Narrow" switch just controlled an audio filter. The 302's switch actually changes the bandwidth.)
Other than that, it was a real hoot getting an accurate digital frequency readout on an analog radio built in the early 80's! Sure wish now I had known the difference between the 300 and the 302 before I purchased. Of course, I consider the Grundig 750 to be a modern, pure digital, version of this radio; and is just about as much fun to operate.
Yes, the 750 is almost as much fun....maybe more. :)

Tom, good review on the repair! This radio is a great one for beginners to start with and in it's day it was expensive to buy.
It is also hard to beat the analog meters! Thanks for the video.

You are welcome and thanks for your support.
Tom
Well done Tom. Plenty of life left in the radio now.
Thank you.
Tom
The "muting" between Mhz on the main tuning dial is the same on the DX-300, somewhat reminiscent of half turning the channel selector on a CB radio (between channels), additionally those grey YEC capacitors are the original components and date back to the 80's, they were also used in the Cobra CB's of that period.
Thumbs up for fault finding!
Even a blind pig can find an acorn. I got lucky this time. LOL
Don't sell yourself short, the difference between success and failure is often perseverance...
5.085 Mhz in your video is WTWW in Lebanon, Tennessee. I listen to one of the shows they broadcast in the evenings called all time greatest hits. They play a lot of music you don't hear much anymore from the 60's and 70's. I have a RS Raelistic DX-300 that I picked up at a Ham store here in Minnesota that closed last year :-( on consignment for $40.00. It was well loved and is still working great today. Congrats on fixing your radio. Hope it is still working for you in 2019. 73 KE6CLF
Thanks for your comments.
Hay Tom Im wondering how the 302 will compare to the 750??? Just a thought. Good show
I am planning on comparing them in a future show.
Tom
Thanks for sharing. What is your opinion on this receiver? I am currently in the market for a SW receiver and, so far, I have gotten some great input from SWL enthusiasts. The more information I gather, the more informed decision I can make. Thanks again!
The one thing about shortwave radio is that each person has different things they like or want. I love to tune radios and search for interesting things. For that reason I like old radios with lot of controls. Newer radios are much easier to tune and use. I have a number of radios as you can see from my shows. Of the old radios that I do have, this is one of my favorites but I have about a dozen favorites. You have to be careful buying old radios as they my have developed problems over the years. You should make a list of radio features and decide which ones are important to you and then find a radio that has those features and does a good job using those features.

Thanks Tom. Being a Newbie at the SWL I am depending on the knowledge of others to guide me. I have a YB 300PE Grundig that works well but I used to ahve an old Hallicrafter that went missing or stolen when I went away to College. I never had the Hallicrafter long before I left so I never gained much insight or skill in its use. It was a big boat anchor and had many capabilities that I never got into. I can say that based on my research I'd like to go old school and have control over the controls more such as the FRG - 7. On the other hand, the FRG 100 is newer and more reliable than the possible FRG 7 which may have inherent issues with age. I think anything from a PL660 tecsun to the top of the line SW receiver would be my happy medium. Some of these middle of the road radios are overpriced in my opinion and I am struggling to find a suitable beast for a good price. I am from Newfoundland, Canada so that compounds the problem with access to large markets in the USA.
Maybe if we're good... Tom will do a head to head comparison between this receiver and his Grundig 750 :)
***** You never know. :)
Mmmm... I promise to eat my veggies LOL
Are you still doing repairs on these? My KHZ is out.
