It was partially explained already, but here is the full story: The song is about the real live cannibal Armin M. (who is currently serving life behind bars) who came into contact with another man online, who had the sexual fantasy of being eaten by another human. When they met, Armin (the cannibal) locally anesthetized the other guy, cut off the victims penis, cooked it and they ate it together (although the victim got sick). That's why the song is called "Mein Teil", which translates to both "my part" and "my thing" (yes, including THAT "thing"...). The bridge into the chorus is "Denn du bist, was du isst", which literally means "because you are what you eat". By the way: The victim in the original case was then killed and professionally butchered. When Armin was arrested, most (not all) of his victim was still in neat packages in his freezer (including the best parts which Armin had reserved as a roast for the following Christmas). So yeah - all in all we Germans are fun people.

Actually 2 years ago there was a serie called Bizarre Murders. They did a sort of remake of this case. It's presented by a real invertigator. He said; I'm glad I wasn't on this case. If you like, you can watch this episode via IMDB. www.imdb.com/title/tt8684136/?ref_=ttep_ep4

Every country has those stories. Germany doesn't have the market cornered on the lunatic fringe. Although, truth be told, even a love song sung in German sounds like someone is losing ..."organs".

He advertised for a guy to kill and eat. The victim was willing and fully aware of what was going to happen. He cut off the victim's penis, cooked it and then they both ate it before the victim was strangled iirc.

Because you don't get no fun and grasp the lyrical depth behind it, as well as the band's recurrent self-distancing from any form of violence whatsoever. They're normal dudes loving to deliver a show! Till for that one is the son of a lyricist, I'd say: good genes.

Rammstein's live shows are notorious for how much they play with fire. They're known for setting themselves, each other, and the entire stage on fire. The singer is a professional pyrotechnician. This was actually quite tame for them, haha.

Indeed Till has a license to use that kind of stuff on stage. The others actually not but of course they get instructed by Till. In Germany you can get this license by doing special seminars and assist at 26 professional fireworks. So its not a kind of apprenticeship.

    Regarding to your questions:
Rammstein mostly won’t give a clear answer to what the lyrics are about in their songs. But this song is definitely about Armin Meiwes, who is a cannibal. Funny side note, Armin was born in Essen, essen means to eat. That’s also why he is dressed as a butcher. The keyboarder is often used for the display of pyro technique and different scenes e.g. Bück dich. In this act the microphone is built in the butchers clever.
They do love to shock people and being provocative. Rammstein named their Band after a fly show accident in Ramstein 1988, which caused 70 deaths and about 1000 injured. In their songs, performances and music videos they treat topics that are controversial, homo sexuality, nudity, violence and love, which made them noticeable and famous. If you would like to react purely to their music, a lot of people favour “Sonne”, “Engel”, “Du hast”, “Mein Herz brennt”, but you might as well check out their ballads like “Ohne Dich”, “Seemann”, “Roter Sand”
    Greetings from Germany

    Heres lyrics translation
“Looking for a well-built 18 to 30-year-old to be slaughtered”
    The Master Butcher
Today I will meet a gentleman
He likes me so much he could eat me up
Soft parts and even hard ones
    are on the menu
Because you are what you eat
and you know what it is
It is my part - no
    My part - no
There that's my part - no
    My part - no
The dull blade good and proper
I'm bleeding heavily and feeling sick
Although I have to fight to stay awake
I keep eating while in convulsions
    It's just so well seasoned
    and so nicely flambéed
and so lovingly served on porcelain
And with it, a good wine
    and gentle candlelight
    Yeah I'll take my time
You've got to have some culture
Because you are what you eat
and you know what it is
It is my part - no
    My part - no
Because that's my part - no
Yes it's my part - no
A cry will ascend to heaven
It will cut through hosts of angels
    Feather-flesh will shriekingly fall
from the top of the clouds onto my childhood

German is a beautiful language. Till Lindemann is one of the best vocalists of all time.
The theme of the song is about a story in Germany where a man voluntarily allowed his friend/lover to cut him up into little pieces and eat him. Mein Teil means, "my piece" in German. Here are the English translations:
Looking for a well-built eighteen to thirty-year-old to be slaughtered
    The Master Butcher
Today I will meet a gentleman
He likes me so much he could eat me up
Soft things and even hard ones

It is my part - no
    My part - no
Because that's my part - no
    My part - no
The dull blade - good and proper
I'm bleeding heavily and feeling sick
Although I have to fight to stay awake
I keep eating while in convulsions
    It's just so well seasoned
    And so nicely flambéed
And so lovingly served on porcelain
And with it, a good wine and gentle candlelight
    Yeat, I'll take my time
You've got to have some culture
    Because you are
    What you eat
    And you know
    What it is
It is my part - no

As German Metalhead I grew up with Rammstein its great music and their live performance are amazing the lead singer Till Lindemann is since 1996 trained pyrotechnician he learned it so nobody gets hurt. I Love their songs Mutter and Zerstören I listen their stuff since 1999 I was 8 years old at this time and i still listen to their music. Till is also the lead singer from the band Lindemann there he sings in English and if u don't know them their song Praise Abort is sure to be good for one react video. "mein teil" is german for "my part" or "my member" as in one's penis...it was written about armin meiwes, a german man who posted an ad online looking for a volunteer to be killed and eaten by him. A man answered...and they had wine together before armin drugged him and severed the man's penis. He then cooked it and they ate it together before armin killed the man and butchered him. He stored the meat in his freezer and consumed him over several months...ALL with the man's permission... Yer welcome for the backstory. o-o

Yes, their performance is based from this song. "Mein Teil" is slang for "My part" in German, as in "my penis", which leads to what the song is about - cannibalism. I also think this was based on a true serial killer if I'm not mistaken. Now that you've seen this performance, it's time to crank it up another notch and watch the live performance to "Bück Dich".

    I love Rammstein.
I never saw them live. But I met them on my birthday for the signing session in London last year. It was the best birthday treat EVER. I got the magazine signed of them on the cover and I was too shy to say something. But lucky me. 😊
Next on my bucket list, see them live. 🤘
Their songs are very different and tells a story. Like that one based on a true event of a cannibal meet a guy who volunteered to be eaten. I like the song but the story behind it, OMG!

here is the lyrics translated for you;)
Today I will meet a gentleman,
    He likes to eat me,
    Soft parts and also hard,
    Stand on the menu
Because you are what you eat
And you know what it is
    It's my part - No)
    My part - no)
    There, that's my part (no)
    My part - no)
The dull blade sounded good and right
I'm bleeding heavily and I'm feeling sick
Do I have to fight with the powerlessness,
I continue to eat under cramps
It's so flavorful and so flambéed
And so lovingly served on porcelain,
In addition a good wine and a delicate candle light,
Yes, I'll give it time, some culture has to be
Because you are what you eat
And you know what it is
    It's my part - No)
    My part - no)
    There, that's my part (no)
    My part - no)
A scream will go to heaven
    Cuts through angelic hosts,
From the cloud cover falls spring meat
    On my childhood with screeching
    It's my part - No)
    My part - no)
    There, that's my part (no)
    My part - no)

Yes its about the Canibal of Rothenburg. He invited someone over to willingly be his next meal, but the "victim" had to/wanted to eat his own fried penis ("Mein Teil" is a way to discribe "My Penis") while bleeding to death, thats the perspective till lindemann, the singer of rammstein, is singing out of in this song. and how he enjoyed his "meal" with red wine and candlelight.

    • @janedoex8345
      @janedoex8345 6 лет назад +3

It's about Arwin Meiwes who was looking for someome who was willing to be eaten....at first (as it was written in a contact they signed) Meiwes cut and cooced his victims penis and they dined together until his "guest" died because of severe blood loss.
Mein Teil Stands for a mans penis but can also be understood as my portion/ part / piece so they kind of play with these words a like they often do.

Hey, Pink, you're looking fabulous as always!
Rammstein is great band. Their live performances are THAT entertaining, also their videos. Some may not like it and i can't say i am really into that, but i accept it. It's their way of presenting themselves and their art. But no one can deny their music is captivating as well.
I hope you reach to their ballads. It may not seem believable, but they have gorgeous ballads too. "Mutter", "Ohne dich" and my favorite "Nebel". Another one you can react to is " Keine Lust". You can go with the music video on that.
I agree on how German language suits metal music, especially the kind of Rammstein does.
I used to learn German and i like how it sounds. I enjoyed other German artist as well.

As a bi-racial metalhead in his mid-thirties who came up in an environment where my penchant for alternative/doom/metal-in-general was generally viewed as an oddity, it's reassuring to see other people of color explore any proclivity leading to similar tastes. Doubly so, if and when they're rocking curls like yours, triply so if they've even _heard_ of Devin Townsend. So, yeah.

  • @gabe6550
    @gabe6550 6 лет назад +3

Yeah! You finally discovered Rammstein! One of my favourite bands! And it was one of their most extreme songs. The expressions on your face were hilarious! xD
But that's understandable, when this is the first time you watch a performance by them. Though I have to say, that you should have listened to the album version of "Mein Teil" first, because the live version is always longer and (in this case) sometimes different in the lyrics and singing. Btw: the music video to this song is even weirder.
The topic of "Mein Teil" is cannibalism (in fact, it is based on a true criminal case, in which a man ate another one, after he met him on the internet), that's why Till Lindemann, the singer, is in the stage performances of this song dressed as a butcher and tries to cook "Flake", the keyboarder. That's part of the show.
I saw them once live, at Wacken Open Air (Europe's biggest metal festival) in 2013, and it was one of the most astounding concerts I've ever watched. Their stage show is always very extravagant. If they'll play one time near your hometown, you definitely should come to see them! Rammstein shows are concerts that you'll never forget!
Rammstein is, to date, the most successful german speaking band in the world. That means something, especially because most of their songs are in german, not english, which would normally be more appealing to a wider audience. Another band whose songs are also mostly in german and who have a similar music style, are Oomph! You should check them out, too. Songs by them, I'd recommend to you are "Augen Auf!" (translation: "Eyes Open!"), "Gott ist ein Popstar" ("God is a popstar"), "Brennende Liebe" ("Burning Love") and "Fieber" ("Fever").
And if you're generally interested in Metal and Hard Rock bands from Germany (which is where I come from, too), these bands are worth checking out: Accept, Scorpions (the internationally most successful band after Rammstein), Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, Running Wild, Tankard, Blind Guardian, Edguy, Heaven Shall Burn, Callejon, Equilibrium, Gamma Ray, Grave Digger, Helloween, Powerwolf, Orden Ogan, Leaves' Eyes, Krypteria, Escimo Callboy, Doro (the german Metal-Queen!), U.D.O. (former singer of Accept), Emil Bulls, Eisregen, Hämatom, Eisbrecher, Dust Bolt, Deserted Fear, Cripper, Caliban, Beyond The Black, Avantasia, Agathodaimon, Die Apocalyptischen Reiter (which means "The Apocalyptic Horsemen", they come from my hometown Weimar!), Midnattsol, Mob Rules, Brainstorm, Rage, Primal Fear and... there are so much more! :D As you can see, the german metal scene is very strong. Especially in the subgenres Thrash and Power Metal.
And about your pronunciation: it's ok for someone who doesn't speak this language. It is difficult (even for native speakers). The "a" in "Rammstein" is pronounced like the english "u" in, for example, "under". And "ei" is in german pronounced like the "y" in English. That's how the band name and the title of this song are pronounced correctly.
If you're interested in other songs by this band, I can recommend you these:
    - "Du Riechst So Gut" ("You smell so good")
    - "Heirate Mich" ("Marry me")
    - "Seemann" ("Sailor")
    - "Tier" ("Animal")
    - "Engel" ("Angel")
    - "Spiel mit mir" ("Play with me")
    - "Mein Herz brennt" ("My heart burns")
    - "Links 2-3-4" ("Left 2-3-4")
    - "Sonne" ("Sun")
    - "Ich will" ("I Want")
    - "Feuer frei!" ("Fire at Will!")
    - "Mutter" ("Mother")
    - "Spieluhr" ("Music Box")
    - "Adios" ("Goodbye")
    - "Reise, Reise" ("Travel, Travel")
    - "Amerika" ("America")
    - "Moskau" ("Moscow"
    - "Amour" ("Love")
    - "Benzin" ("Fuel")
    - "Mann gegen Mann" ("Man Against Man")
    - "Ich tu dir weh" ("I Hurt You")
    - "Haifisch" ("Shark")
    - "Frühling in Paris" ("Springtime in Paris")
    - "Pussy"
    - "Ohne Dich" ("Without You")
When you listen to them, you should look up a translation. Rammstein focus often on very controversial and shocking themes like sadomasochism, incest, necrophilia, child abuse or, in this case, cannibalism. But some of their songs are also very emotional love songs. And what's also very interesting about them are their plays on words in their lyrics ("Du hast" can mean in german both "you have" and "you hate").
I can also recommend you their video albums/concert movies, especially "Live aus Berlin" ("Live from Berlin"), "Völkerball" ("Dodgeball") and "Rammstein: Paris" (which was released last year). They capture the intensity of their performance really well. You should check them out!
PS: I hope, my English wasn't that bad. :)

    To answer your questions:
Yes the song was related to the performance, that is why Rammstein is amazing in live performance. As other people commented before the song is about cannibalism
Answer to question number 2, see above. Mein Teil means "my part" referring to body parts that are his as he claims.
If you'd like to react to for example the clips of "Engel" or "Ich will", get in touch with me. These are some awesome songs. First listen to them, then listen to them with the video and later on I'll explain what it is all about.

I saw this live performance, it was quiet a show actually ... you have to look at it with a great dose of humor.. Definitely worth checking them out live

You are very beautiful and well spoken from my understanding the song is based a true event of a actual cannibal an a mentally ill man volunteering to be ate by him which happened rammstein lyrics tend to be very dark with a graphic vivid poetry behind it which is at times open to interpretation
