I remember running into a homeless guy in GA who was living on the trail. Seemed like a nice fellow. That is pretty creepy what happened to you guys! DDB

@rbefarm we ran into several homeless folks on the trail.Homeless folks don't bother me but this was different .Pitch black and foggy and a voice out of of no where with a dog barking.

@@ontheloose2024 Definitely sounds like some local who had a thing for harassing hikers. Thankfully that is all he did!

I tried to use a dog barking to help recreate the story but the dog we heard had a much deeper bark

These TN woods can be creepy. Just talking about that today on the Holston. The original AT path before it was moved to Iron Mountain.

Not what you would want to hear, early in the morning. Or at anytime. And wasn't this just after the tent was lost?

I had to end my hike in Irwin in 2010 because I ran out of funds. I had to stay at Johnny's for a week or 10 days waiting for my SS check to pay bills and get home. There were some hobo camps on the other side of the river across the bridge. That's where I stayed those ten days. One guy and his woman stayed under the bridge. He came over to talk. He was OK, but he warned me that the stuff that was in an abandoned camp belonged to him and to stay away from it. The camp was abandoned by a guy who was in seminary and was taking time off grid (a little) to collect his thoughts. Great story about that dude in the dark. Imagine spending 10 days alone surrounded by hobos. Viva los hobos, my ass!

We have some encampments in the woods around here and the people seem harmless .thru hiking is crazy expensive .2010 seems like yesterday. Time Flys really fast.Do you keep in contact with cool walking stick or spooky and even flow?

@@ontheloose2024 Spooky went off social media. He was a sponsored shooter last I heard. Shooting contests, tactical shooting. Cool Walking Stick I haven't heard from for awhile. Pusher and Li'l Dipper I've not heard from in a long time. Pusher climbed Kilimanjaro right after they hiked the AT. Even Flow is still teaching and doing artistic things. I sent him and ML some heritage seeds I got when I was doing a Zero Day in Cherokee. I should contact them and ask about how that turned out. Those two were really fine people; took a lot of us in. I had really lost a lot of weight so they let me stay a little longer than the others so I could eat at Waffle House. Now you get some weight back, ya'hear? Did Blue lose weight as much as you? She looked like she made it thru better than you. Of course , women have extra to begin with and that helps them on long hikes. Yes, time is like smoke from a fire. So glad you two made it thru.
