    Great news complete AT hike. This is type of weight loss hiking video I appreciate before time passes and current knowledge of AT hike is fogotten. I have not watched all your AT videos due to focus on life areas that highjacked my interest away from love of hiking. I have strong interest in any videos you have done or will do on where your body is sore and what you did to reduce soreness so you can stay on trail. In one video you had knee injury you were trying to improve. Other details to stay on trail are keen interest such as ability and success to handle winter cold or summer heat (hike at night) is something all hikers experience. While hiking I carry Snowpeak cook and save 2 quart titanium pot which easily cooks 1.5 quarts healthier food at once on wood burning stove. Plastic lid held on by titanium lid edge pressure means I can eat 2 cups food every 2 hours 3 times over 6 hours for more calories. Tianium lid is used as food cutting board.

    Interesting to hear your perspective of weight loss as a problem, along with the difficulty of regaining. I, and several others I hiked with, lost 40-50 pounds...and we're all sad it came right back on after we got home! It's really hard to adjust your post-trail thinking from "Yay, calories! I need to eat everything!" back to being reasonable. Especially when that hunger lasts for awhile!

    • @ontheloose2024
      @ontheloose2024 12 дней назад

      I think if you have ever struggled to keep weight off post hike will be the same.If you have ever struggled keeping weight on you will struggle to keep weight on post hike..I was always very underweight .I graduated at 117 pounds and got married at 21 years old at 130 pounds .I started lifting weights and after a few years got up to 160.I continued working out and using protien powder and got up to 180 pounds and up until the hike I would hover between 175 and 180.i believe I will have to work very hard to return to 175.i guess we all struggle in one way or another..

And further, I have restrictions in my throat due to cancer treatment that makes eating anything difficult. I am researching any kind of high calorie food that might sustain me thru the trip. I’m drinking the protein shakes whenever I can. Any help anyone has would be appreciated.

      I went online and bought in bulk a high calorie bar that had more calories per ounce than anything out there.The bar is called a keto brick bar I do not recall the exact numbers but I know it had 1000 calories and 356 percent of your daily fat needed and hardly any carbs.They are pretty dense so I would cut them in half and have 500 calories .I believe buying in bulk they were about 7 dollars a bar.That sounds expensive but cliff bars with 260 calories were about 4 dollars in new England..check them out look up keto brick...I got tired of them about a 2 months into it but I really should have continued to eat them

    There's a state park here in Wisconsin called Governor Dodge State Park. When I got out of the US Navy in 1971, I hiked at Governor Dodge every weekend, year round. It was farmland and mostly prairie when the park was formed. Now, 50 years later, forests have grown up. I have the pictures to prove it. Makes me feel old, but it's a good feeling.
