  • I love the look of the 1950 Betty Crocker cake mix box. It has such a 1950's look to it, especially since it is from the year 1950.

It wouldn't be a Betty Crocker cake commercial unless some man showed up and picked up a big piece of cake with his hands and just started eating it.

What a relief to know that I'm not the only one who measures my entire self-worth by the height of my cakes!

The angel cake mix I kind of have to use dried egg whites since angel cakes usually use at least 12 egg whites.

  • @lynelleherring2756

Wow, there sure was a lot more cake mix in the box back then. They should bring that printed box back.

I watch your uploads everyday and I have a great time with all these '50s commercials.
That one is one of the loveliest!

Does anyone out there remember the cake that came in a box, called Answer Cake? I used to bake them for my Father and the frosting you just added a few Tablespoons hot water and wow did I think I was a great baker!!! But.. love to be in my kitchen still to this day.

Superbly neat commercial. 🎂 And the 1950’s sure were quite different back then, too. 😊😎

    Love it

I remember reading about how the original cake mixes were "just add water," but housewives didn't feel like they were actually baking, so the "add your own eggs" concept emerged.

I wonder if they still make any cake mixes with dried eggs.

edward berneys propaganda at its best.. using focus groups, he determined that women felt guilt making cakes that were all mix, so they added the "eggs" to the recipe so the housewife had a something to contribute and evoke a sense of fertility. sales soared. notice the announcer say "your eggs" at

This was a gimmick so housewives would feel less guilty about using a mix rather than "scratch". It made it seem as if you were making a real cake.

They started the cake mixes we enjoy today so before this the eggs were already in the mix and it wasn't good at all
