Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed! Unfortunately the only survivor is unlikely to run without a massive injection of cash to replace the 3 cylinder block, but it was a mainline favourite during the 80's and 90's. Nice looking locos and the new model is a belter!
I'm a Southern Man (no, not the one Neil Young was referring to!) through and through, but Gresley's V2s are one of my favourite locomotives. Love the wonderful sound effects!
Hi Pat - that must have been terrific hearing and seeing them hard at work on BR. I was lucky enough to see Green Arrow at the Bluebell and SVR - but on both occasions was in tip top condition and was running like a sewing machine - albeit at sub 25mph speeds!
Ce sont en effet de belles locomotives et maquettes ! Un grand merci pour les gentils mots concernant le travail de la caméra, ils étaient très amusants à filmer !
I've just binged watched most of your videos in the last 45 minutes, not many channels can do that for me and so as such you've just earned yourself a new subscriber. This videos are mesmerising. On top of the steam loco sounds you even go to the extent of adding things like church bells or even bird song when going through the various locations (I'm a bit of a birder and I know I've heard a Skylark and Whimbrel in these videos here and there) it all just builds on and adds to the realism. But what I love most of all is how you seem to replicate the style that was seen in the "Elizabethan Express" short film from 1953, you've really captured the feeling on that kind of film almost perfectly with your videos especially in the "Race North LNER VS LMS" video, that was spectacular! Look forward to seeing more out you in future! And if I may make a suggestion? Maybe do a prequel to the Race North with a Princess Royal vs an A3/1 (Maybe Princess Elizabeth vs Scotty-though I'd prefer an A3 with a banjo dome) Anyway great stuff All the best! :)
Ah thank you so much for the insightful comment. You’re quite right about the ambient bird and church bell sound effects, I feel they add a “sense of place” to the various bits of footage even if they go unnoticed much of the time. That is something I enjoy very much about Peter Handford’s recordings. His best ones are often out in the wilderness where the bird song, howling wind, even artillery fire from a nearby firing range are heard alone, then are accompanied by a distant train which gradually takes over, then dramatically passes, fades away again and eventually into the distance. The ambient sounds resume dominance as everything returns to normal after the interruption. The mind can paint a wonderful picture, and transport you there! Far more evocative for me than many photographs or cine film of the period. I highly recommend them if you’ve not come across them before. Many have something for the ornithologist! These audio tracks greatly influence my videos. However I have to condense everything, as some of Peter Handford’s tracks are 8 minutes long! Great idea regarding the Races to the North prequel - I have a Princess Elizabeth booked in soon for weathering, I just need an apple green A3 to join the party! Thanks again, Steve.
@@NEVILLEGROVE If I make a follow up comment. LNER had a number of A1s converted to the A3 design in the 30s here are some of the following 2743 Felstead and numbers 2500 through 2506 (sorry names escape me) all had the banjo dome in the 30s.
It doesn't surprise me that one of the major retailers has commissioned you to produce a video that would show off their models to their very best. Well done Steve, you've certainly done that and very nice models they are too. If only they'd let you loose with your airbrush, they could have looked even better.
Thanks Steve that's very kind! Although 4843 will be going back for display in the shop, 60964 is now part of the Neville Grove fleet. It will therefore be meeting with the airbrush for sure! It has been my long term wish to have a typically filthy V2 at the head of long fitted freight, but now its a dilemma as the finish on it is so nice, I'm now wondering if I just go with subtle weathering. What would you vote?
Weathering is very subjective and covers quite a broad spectrum of appearances but personally I like to see what was typical of the time so what did most V2's look like most of the time and therefore somewhere in the middle gets my vote. You’re quite right, this latest version is an excellent model and I look forward to seeing you breathe life into yours.
@@birtle123 like most engines they got very dirty towards the end of steam, I’m leaning towards that for this one actually, to gain that typical run down appearance of BR steam in the 60’s.
A beautiful and atmospheric video - and fascinating notes on the different sounds of different locos, as well as features like the firebox. Any chance you'll post another video of the weathered versions and perhaps show the firebox flicker?
Thanks Mr T! I can’t wait to weather mine, not sure on the finish yet - heavily weathered as was so typical for the class, or polished / in use which would also suit it?! 🤔 4843 is on loan from Rails so will be going back pristine. I need to get a more suitable decoder to show off the firebox flicker to its best effect, but I will certainly be doing that yes 👍

dibley1973 For about 4 1/2 years from the mid '50s until almost 1960 I used to catch the Newcastle to Bristol train at York every Sunday evening. The train always arrived with an A1 or A2 which was exchanged for a V2 at what was then platform 8 South. We departed at 9:07 PM with the V2 in charge. I hated the bloody things, the valve synch. was usually so far out it sounded as if a whole exhaust beat was missing. I NEVER timed one at more than 65 MPH. This of course was with 10 vehicles :- 8 coaches and 2 brake composites, a common rake in those days. NOW of course, I would love to see one. GREEN ARROW hasn't been seen for years, incidentally the only named V2 I never had in charge of my train.
I have to say that was one of the best productions I've seen in a while, how are you doing those steady following shots? Lovely locomotives, I have a fist issue V2 by Bachmann, think I might get her out for a run. Lovely layout as well. Cheers Mike

Superb video inspired me to buy one. Not disappointed, but how did you fare with fitting the nameplates? At the price, you would have thought you wouldn't have to battle yourself with this intricate task! All very frail and vulnerable, certainly after my amateur efforts. At least I didn't damage plates or loco (yet). I should add that it's worth doing, because unlike with some nameplates their colours do match the loco and lend it some distinction.
I actually had little trouble fitting them but then I rename locos frequently for customers so am relatively experienced I suppose. I actually only used Black Tak on Durham Light Infantry (the one I’m keeping) as I will possibly rename number in the future. It’s strong stuff, invisible in this case behind the plate, and they are still in perfect position, but will be easy to remove if I decide I want to. Personally I prefer them not being fitted as delivered because factory superglue can leave very tough, life long scars. I’ll probably recreate an unnamed one as they were far more numerous in number, and I want to recreate a typical class member. Great model though isn’t it?! Glad you’re pleased with yours!

Apparently the V2 was the favourite loco of the great man Peter Handford, citing that they had more variety of sounds than any other loco he had experienced - which would have been a lot.
