    The adoption of Buddhism post-Kalinga war is a myth. Ashoka had turned to Buddhism long before the War of Kalinga. He probably did it for political intentions as the Amatyas of Magadh were not happy with how Ashoka gained the throne. In their eyes, Ashoka's brother Susheema was the rightful heir as declared by Bindusara.

      also later Buddhist scholars wanted to show Ashoka in Bright light and pecaeful cause he embraced Buddhism. They also wrote extensively about contrast of Ashoka after and before accepting Buddhism to show that Buddhism leads to peace,
      In reality, history might be much brightening

    There is a common myth that Ashoka was nearly entirely forgotten in the millenia after his passing until recent history. However the truth is Ashoka was a revered figure in Sri Lanka for 2300 years. Ashoka was never forgotten in SL where even today kids are named "Ashoka" and after his children "Sanghamitra"/"Mahindra"

Shunga knew that we were not able to defend the sub-continent from foreign invasions.

      "Then, after having approached Saketa together with the Panchalas and the Mathuras, the Yavanas, valiant in battle, will reach Kusumadhvaja ["the town of the flower-standard", Pataliputra]. Then, once Puspapura [another name of Pataliputra] has been reached and its celebrated mud[-walls] cast down, all the realm will be in disorder."

      @@pacewalk7396 Pushyamitra Shunga’s action had popular support.
      This action of Pushyamitra Shunga has been criticized as treachery to his king. But the fact is Brhadratha as a king had failed in his duty and even blocked the efforts of his senapati to save people and hence forfeited the loyalty of his subject. (At this time Magadh was on a war with Yavanas nearby Mathura) Pushyamitra Shunga did not have any selfish motive behind his action. Even after having earned recognition as Chakravartin by performing not one but two Ashwamedha sacrifices, he was content with the modest title senapati and he never assumed any imperial title. The very fact that he chose to behead the king in full view of his assembled armies proves that Pushyamitra Shunga was assured of their support. The popular feelings can be gauged from the fact that centuries later the great dramatist Kalidasa chose to celebrate in his play the lives of the members of Pushyamitra Shunga’s family.

      I do believe Constatine was a Christian now, although not as strong one if you actually study his life, you see both his many failures and his successes he understood the reason why the eastern Roman empire succeeded more than the western Roman empire was not just at economic viability, but it’s moral one too and a society without morals collapses in on itself, and what was happening in the western Roman empire, was exactly that…. greed

    • @Caligulashorse1453
      @Caligulashorse1453 10 месяцев назад

      I also would like to point out the fact Constantine‘s mother was a Christian Helena and Constantine himself was never truly involved in the persecution although his father was they didn’t straight up, kill Christians they just got rid of their churches and buildings unlike glarius or Diocletian, who literally tortured them of course the story of Christianity does not revolve around Constatine the Empire was allready, mostly Christian in the eastern Roman empire, even before Constatine the only thing Constantine did was end the persecution it was already a unstoppable religious force in the east and it would eventually spread to the west I mean unlike any other religion in the world christianity started from mass murder of people who follow the faith and people kept converting…. If we believe in the benevolent version of Ashoka and his rule, we can see that it does not matter how one rules the empire, with compassion or with sheer might, there will always be rebels and one’s creation will be erased by time.
    In the popular version, Ashoka chooses the path of righteousness, lays down an excellent form of governance, and makes sure his own sons and daughters are not spoiled. In fact, he goes as far as sending his own son to Sri Lanka to spread Buddhism. He ensures that his children grow up to be moral and virtuous, but they lack the skills and qualities of a great ruler.
    Perhaps this is just another example that shows the cyclic nature of history: “Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.”
    Let's see ow long will the democracy that we modern humans cherish and that grants us a relatively peaceful life continue to thrive before it begins to decay.

      The Great Depression of the 1930s, characterized by economic hardship and widespread unemployment, did not necessarily lead to the emergence of universally strong individuals. Instead, it spurred a diverse range of responses, from resilience and innovation to despair and hardship. Powerful leaders or figures in history haven't always resulted in periods of prosperity and peace. For instance, the strong leaders who led their nations into World War I and World War II were responsible for immense suffering and destruction, rather than good times.
      Periods of prosperity and economic growth, such as the Roaring Twenties in the United States, did not uniformly produce weak individuals. Many accomplished and resilient individuals emerged during prosperous times, contributing to cultural, scientific, and technological advancements.

      There is a common misconception about Seleucus I Nicator. This misconception is that many people think he invaded India. This is simply not true. After Alexander III of Macedon died, his generals divided his empire between them. One of those generals was Seleucus I Nicator, he recieved all of modern-day Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. A few years later, Chandragupta Maurya, the founder and first emperor of the Mauryan Empire, attacked the Seleucid Empire to re-capture the Indian lands that Alexander III of Macedon had conquered. After a war known as the Seleucid-Mauryan War that lasted 2 years, Chandragupta Maurya won and re-conquered those lands. In the subsequent peace treaty, Seleucus I Nicator recognised the Mauryan right over those lands and in exchange recieved 500 war elephants as compensation for the loss of those lands. After the war, the 2 sides then became allies by marriage. Berenice, Seleucus I Nicator's daughter, married Bindusara, Chandragupta Maurya's son. So you see, it wasn't Seleucus I Nicator who attacked the Mauryan Empire, it was Chandragupta Maurya who attacked the Seleucid Empire...

    Chandra gupta mauriya, and his dynasty eventually failed, for reasons that were deliberately hidden at that time. He being a ruler ordered buddist monks, to rearrange rig veda, and write mahabharat and puranas, suppressed buddism and jainism to promote vedic culture. He used the same tactics that the romans used to bring all tribal religions under one umbrella. Basically convert to have a larger empire.
    He was responsible for introducing so called *class system * he even took buddist teaching and incorporated into the b.gita.etc.
