  • Our friend Rich Hinman (St Vincent, Vulfpek, Sara Bareilles, Molly Tuttle, Adam Levy) recently stopped by to check out our Powers Electric A-Type demo guitar! This Sage Green Metallic beauty is loaded with PF42 pickups, the amp is a Swart Antares, and the cable is a Divine Noise. Enjoy!

Wonderful chord voicings. Sure appreciate the slow sustained chords that let the unique tone of this guitar to be heard. I'm so exhausted by demo videos with heavily distorted guitars being shredded by hyperactive guitar acrobats. All guitars plugged into a distortion pedal cranked to eleven sound the same.

Just came here after listening to The Mahavishnu Orchestra. Yep, it's a nice contrast very tasty playing. Assuming those are essentially underwound P90's. Probably ~6k of AWG42 in the 3-3.5 range, with Steel pole screws, and the Aluminum shielding that reduces the upper-mids via eddy currents as well as block some electronics device noise, but not magnetic flux noise, you could put together something quite like it for ~$600.
-lightweight or semi-hollow finished body of your choice: $100~$150.
-Fully finished 25.5" scale Maple neck with Stainless frets from a guy on Etsy: ~$150
-Guyker Tune-O-Matic Style Electric Guitar Bridge Stop Bar Tailpiece Tremolo: $70 on Amazon.
-RezoMax auto-locking TOM bridge w/Graphtec saddles: $60 on Amazon.
-Whatever pickguard, knobs, pots and switches: ~$100?
-The GFS 'Gold Foil Single Coil Alnico (or Ferrite) Soapbar' pickups are about right, and they look nice: ~$75 a pair.
Probably a bit lower inductance (which is more versatile). Just turn the tone knob down a few notches to round off the high-end. You can probably put 7~10 layers of Aluminum duct tape inside of the covers for the upper-midrange softening effect. The Ferrite versions have less string pull and output, and will sound less-aggressive/more-jazzy. Either version should be fine, but Aluminum shielding might be overkill with the Ferrite versions.
      -decent locking string tuners: ~$50
Won't look as fancy but should sound like it.
