The level of production in this video is impressive, fantastic work. These old little cameras are interesting in the sense that they are a limitation to the photographer used to the modern digital cameras, in a similar fashion to what film does, but with the convenience of no developing.
Really great video, came across this accidentally looking for old-style, cheap cameras. It's the person behind the lense, that's the most important part in taking good photos.
Thank you so much- really appreciate you. It's also quite humbling to see this comment now, when the one below this one refers to the fact that I put this video out a year ago, at 19 subs. It's been a fun year :)
Very well done! I just started with photography and am currently using a Sony DSC-F707 bridge camera from late 2001. Not because I don't have anything better, but mostly for its ergonomics and pretty respectable features for its time. It's just really fun to use, it just flips a switch inside your head and puts you into 'take-a-picture mode' haha. Phones don't really do that to me. Its 5 MP is also just good enough to make out the details without being too low resolution. The lens swivels up and down so you can easily take pictures of the sky or abstract architecture, which is a feature that unfortunately seems rare nowadays. It's just crazy thinking that this camera, which originally cost $700 back then, is now in my hands for literally $3. Sometimes it isn't about having the most high end gear, but about the creativity that goes into making it work given the limitations. Getting to know your camera and its settings can be a daunting task, but these experiences will be very useful and won't be invalidated once you upgrade your equipment. The most important part is to have fun with it!
I had one of those too (back LCD is busted)... Amazing times back in the days with my p200. I really enjoyed this work of yours. Uniqueness and fresh approaches. It brought me back good old memories and underlines the essence of just focusing on shooting and not too much on today's "my specs better than yours" tech hysteria. Congrats and I hope you keep it up 👍
Recently found my P200. It was the camera that really got me into photo and videography. My friends and I had a couple of P200s as well as a P150 and we would make videos using Windows Movie Maker, putting music tracks to them which would make them impossible to upload to RUclips today. I now have a Canon EOS 800D/Rebel T7i which I love dearly but I can't describe how happy I was when I unearthed this little point and shoot and discovered it still worked, bar the flash. I will have to take it out again and see what I can capture with it as a bit of fun. :)
In the early 2000, there were attractive compact cameras such as the Canon Powershot G3 and Powershot A430 and more. They were not much bigger than a cigarette pack but some of them had a 14 MP sensor.
Hello! I should to say - it's make photo quality much better than any smartphones! even with 7.2 mega pixels on board and even in 2018. it's something like MP3 file (any smartphone) versus CD AUDIO (P200). P200 much deeper! no pixels etc. Because DSC-P200 it's a photo camera!
I totally get where you're coming from- probably has something to do with sensor size as well. Maybe one day phones will be on the level of cameras. I'm honestly blown away by the camera on my Samsung Galaxy s9+
I use my P200 pretty much exclusively -- nothing else exactly suits the work I do (long story). Thing is, even after decades of shooting color film in my Leica M3 and running through all the color options on my Fuji X100s and X100t, the color from my P200 is exactly what I want. I never tweak the color in post. Oh And: I did buy mine in a thriftstore. $7.00
Heyy!! Can you please tell me what Memory Stick I can use for this camera? The ones I find that are like the one it came with only have 32 - 64 MB. I would love one that’s compatible with the camera with 32-64 GB! But I can’t find any info online… I keep seeing that I could use a memory stick pro duo but would it even fit into the memory stick slot? Please help!!
@@aestheticorsomethingliketh3164, I'm using a 16GB MagicGate brand Memory Stick PRO duo in a SanDisk 20-90-03045 Adapter. (Both from Amazon, recently.) Likely, any brand of PRO Duo Memory Stick will work with this SanDisk adapter. Other adapters may work as well. My adapter setup works on both of my old Sony Cameras. Somehow this adapter setup does not work with all card readers, so I usually patch either one of the cameras straight into my laptop to off-load picture files. (BTW: Try to find a genuine Cyber-shot battery -- even if the battery you have is still working. Third-party batteries are not reliable in the Sony DSC P-200. I've had 2 non-Sony batteries discharge in the camera while sitting and then they would not charge. Not a good idea to leave a battery in this camera when not in use.)
I see your Sony DSC-P200 and raise you the Sony MVC-FD200. I'm planning to head into SF to take some photos with it and see how much I can squeeze out of the old 2MP floppy disk camera. Great vid!
I have one of those, which I got in 2009, to replace a P150. I stopped using it in 2011 when I got a Canon SD1300 IS. But after a couple years I dropped it with the lens out, and that broke the lens mechanism. Just a few years ago I started using the P200 again, along with my main camera, just for fun. I have the correct cable for transferring the pictures to the camera, so I never have to remove the memory stick. I use it in program mode at all times. But no matter what camera I had or have, I have never done any manual photography. And now my good Canon doesn't have manual capability. That's an SX420 IS. Anyway, thanks.
Old Digital cameras will us teach what kind of photographer we are. Is it the gearbitch? Or the pure passion type that has fun with taking pictures no matter what kind of cam he has. And yes using old cams is fun. It's cheap and you practice your skills, composition and It's simple.
How would we convert video footage onto a PC? I don't see any av cables so could I take the memory stick out of this and use it on my handycam that does have AV input and output
How were you able to share the photos from the camera to the pc?, cause am trying on windows 10 and it reads it, but i just can access to the memory card.
Just bought a digital camera from 2005, it works but I do not have an sd card that works for it .. Yes there is 1gb sd card and up available but my camera have an max of 16mb, and it is extremely difficult to find at least in my country.
Very glad you like this one!! I plan on making some more of these in the near future. I have a few Good Will cameras on my shelf I've been working with :)
I know for a fact that a better more expensive camera take better photos. I bought the d3 it the best camera I ever had so far. My other camera i have to work harder to get great settings as just setting my d3 up to automatic white balance. The d3 so good when I set the white balance to automatic just to play and have fun with it the setting white balance is better more accurate on white balance then when I get set a custom white balance with the grey or white card. That is impressive to me. I know skill important but after using my d3 I just bought on ebay it a full frame great camera
Hey there, I have a USB memory card reader for the memory stick (more on my workflow and digicams in this vid: ruclips.net/video/glOa8bu60js/видео.html)
I got a P200 (+memory stick, batteries, charger and bag) for cheap since i found my P100 from 2004 but no memory stick anymore. The nicest thing, you just shoot photos and care about what you shoot, now how you shoot. The very limiting nature of such a point and shoot limits the technical aspects that much that you only care about composition, light etc, at worst you have to choose if you want flash, +/- intensity or any other super basic setting such as +/- exposure compensation if ever needed. I really enjoy both, the 5.1 MP P100 and the recently bought P200 with 7.2 MP. But video is horrendous on both, just not watchable and even Topaz Video AI cant make anything better.
Amei o vídeo, pena que não tem legenda em português- brasil. Tenho a cybershot t70 guardada aqui e estava querendo aprender a mexer, obrigada seu vídeo me ajudou bastante.
Sorry I'm not the best with Portueguese, but I understood a few words here and there. I actually visited Lisbon and Porto in college. Honestly Lisbon is probably one of my favorite places on the planet. But I'm glad you enjoy the video. Thanks!!!
Really loved this video. I still have this classic with me. :) Do you mind if I use some of the footage in this video for a mention in my next video? Needless to say I'd be taggin you channel too. Do let me know as the video is for a good cause. :)
Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed. In terms of your vid, can you shoot me a message over on Instagram with some more details? @sweetlouphotography
The DSC-P200 does in fact have black and white plus sepia modes. Here is how to find them: (1) turn the wheel to "SCN" (2) press the menu button (3) press the right arrow button eight times.
Wow this is really well put together for a video with 60 views and 19 subs, you deserve way more. Earned my sub.
Thank you for the immensely kind words! Appreciate it!
keep it up, found you on /r/photography btw
I intend to keep it up :) Thanks so much!
Yeah...this was really well put. Very low view count.
Well, not anymore pal

Thank you so much for watching. I'm working on another one of these right now with an old, cheap Nikon film camera. :)
Finally i found it, this is my first camera back in 2005 when I was in elementary school. My parents give this as my Christmas present

Love that story- The P200 has found a way onto my shelf, and definitely comes out with me from time to time!

Yeah I definitely need to make more vids like this in the future, it's been too long
And thank you so much!!
I still have, and use my p200.The battery has lost a bit of longevity, but it still produces excellent images.

Thank you very much. This is certainly an oldie, but I'd love to experiment with more old digital cameras!!
The pictures actually look sick
You saw it coming . Congratulations 🎉 😝😝

I had a USB reader, I just plugged the Sony memory stick into my PC via USB and took the video footage off there
picked up a p100 a few days ago from ebay. everything including the charger and memory for just 26 bucks.
just got my own p200, wow it is worse than i thought it would be but i still get some nice photos out of it
