  • Salmon Recipe Indian Style - Salmon Fish Curry - Fish Kalia
    If anyone in your family does not like fish then probably this fish curry recipe will change their mind. Today I will show you a Bengali style fish curry. West Bengal is a state in the eastern part of India and people residing there are known as Bengalis (me being one). Bengalis are known for their fabulous fish recipes and their love for food and sweets. Macher kalia is one of those that are usually served at wedding parties or prepared when guests come over or during festival time. Usually it is prepared with freshwater carp like Rohu or Catla but it is impossible to get those where I live. I tried the same recipe using salmon and to my surprise saw that it turned out very delicious.

    Ingredients required for making salmon fish curry- Serves 6
    Salmon fish (boneless skinless fillet) - 690 gm/1.5 lb . You can use any fish (with or without bones) for this recipe. The cooking time will only vary according to the type of fish used.
    Onion - 224 gm/8 oz/ 1 large
    Ginger - 25 gm/0.8oz/ 2 inch length
    Garlic - 15 gm/0.5oz
    Tomato - 175 gm/6 oz/ 1 large or 2 medium (you can leave out tomatoes if you have any concerns)
    Yogurt - 2 heaped tablespoons/50 gm/ 2 oz
    Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon for marinating fish + 1 teaspoon for gravy
    Kashmiri red chili powder/paprika - 2 teaspoons .You can even use 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder or cayenne pepper. Adjust the proportion of chili powder according to your preference.
    Cumin Powder - 1 teaspoon heaped
    Coriander Powder - 1 teaspoon heaped
    Dry bay leaf - 1
    Cinnamon stick - 2 inch length
    Green cardamoms - 2
    Cloves - 2
    Dried Red Chili - 1 (totally optional)
    Salt to taste
    Sugar - 1 teaspoon
    Oil - 6 tablespoons
    Warm Water - 1 & 1/2 cups. You can go upto 2 cups if you want more gravy.
    Serve this with hot steamed rice.
