Well done guys. The build stuff is so good - doesn’t feel like a home video at all - so, congrats. And you seem to really enjoy each others company. Nice.
Great effort and very informative. We have a old 2008 Boroma van (it has good bones) that we decided to update with new lithium batteries & solar, air con and a few other bits and pieces. It has an wooden interior (darker & old fashioned) but it works really well for us. We looked at changing it out for a new van but to get something with the similar features it was going to cost us well over $100g to upgrade. It's great to see what you have accomplished keep up the great work!
You've done a great job on your van. I've enjoyed watching this reno and intend following you from here on. I really like the transformation on the inside. Thanks for a gread series team. 😊
We have loved this series and love what you have done with Bertha she looks amazing both inside and out now. Can’t wait for Camp for a Cure it’s going to be epic and we will be there longer to help anyway we can.
We have really enjoyed your Q & A and your caravan looks so homely so all congratulations for your effort and the end result . Look forward to where and when you go/do next .
The series was great, you pair are just regular people, so I think there's a lot we can all relate to like "Towards the front, no the other front", thats defo the misses and I 👍
Hi guys, watched your ep last night and couldnt wait to tell you about our ogo composting toilet that I installed into our new lotus. Absolutely the best thing we have done. No smell, easy to empty, so so good.
Well done guys great job just shows u do not need a lot of money to bring older caravan up to what u have achieved hey I didn’t know u used to build caravans😉😎
I have been watching you guys from New Zealand since you started . You got me motivated to find a caravan to reno. I picked up a 1996 Regent Tourer poptop 17 footer (Aussie built) for the right price, i.e, cheap. It now has a great battery system, good solar, diesel heater, AC was removed, (ya don't need AC in NZ), re-sealed, etc. Budget was $NZ25000 all up . Very happy, thanks for the motivation!
Hey guys I’ve really enjoyed this series and learnt a little along the way. I’d love to meet you someday who knows might run into on the track one day. Thanks again for sharing your improvements.
Definitely consider a composting toilet, we changed over 10 months ago, best thing we ever did,we tossed up between the Cuddy and the Ogo,went the Cuddy as it was a few hundred dollars cheaper and the light that indicates a full wee bucket is on top, easy to see,the Ogo light is on the side, not as easy to see when full, and your kids will work it out quick enough, our 4 year old grandson has worked it out no worries, it was harder for me getting used to sitting down to wee😂
20:45 I have a composting toilet, from the start, I wouldn't want to do the walk of shame with a cassette. I have three bins which last a solo traveller two months. And I use black bags and it's legal to dump human waste in a bin!
Do some research and physical inspections of the Ogo composting caravan toilets. No stiring needed Erin, it's a push button. The number 2 bucket is quite easy and compact to remove when required.
Heh guys. Erin, you don’t have to stir it if you get an OGO Origin. They have an electric stirrer in them. We bit the bullet and replaced the chemical toilet with the OGO. My husband took out our chemical toilet and then installed the OGO. Took longer to take the chemical toilet out, finding where all the screws are located and very easy to install the OGO. Go for it, you won5 regret it.
Hey guys, love watching you renovate your Canavan, to the point that we are now renovating our 2007 Roma 19.6' caravan. I have a question can you please tell me where you got your kitchen sink from?
Great video. Question for the lady who used to build caravans. Erin, have had any problems filling your Composite gas bottles. Just rang around and not able to get ours filled due to “static electricity” fears.
Thank you! Funnily enough right before you commented this Alex got told at a BCF that they aren’t allowed to fill those bottles anymore which makes it a lot harder as that’s our go to fill place. He ended up going to a bbq store and got it filled
@@nowornever_ausyeah BCF in Melbourne and Sunny Coast told us the same thing. The “Direction” came out about 3 - 4 weeks ago. Will try barbecue place when we get back home next week
Hi, We have loved watching your re---builds of Bertha. You have done a terrific job. I do have questions about the stick-on tiles in the kitchen. How are they going? Are they still as sticky as when first put on? And would you use them again? Thankyou for your honesty and your vulnerability you show on camera. Take care, safe travels.
That be great to see you build a caravan from start to finish. Also did you think about putting L.E.D lights on front and back for security and night time .
I have 2 black fibre glass gas bottles and they are much lighter than the steel ones also the expiry stamp date are on the bottom of the bottles thats where mine are
@@nowornever_aus My partner is convinced, no smell. She has said, “I can go to the toilet after him and it doesn’t smell”. I empty the wee container nightly and solids last for ever before emptying.
FYI yesterday I when into BCF Palmerston NT asked for my 7.5 kg Composite Gas Bottle to be refilled. Was told Head Office has now banned them from Refilling Composite gas bottles.
Erin….you really should have entered the olympics in break dancing 🥇 I think I’d consider a composting toilet because chemicals smell and ours needs emptying every 24hrs or so and we’re a bit over that!
Perhaps instead of I Used To Build Caravans merchandise, it would be funnier I think to have I Didn’t Used to Build Caravans as a counter point. Thanks for the content. We enjoy between our trips. Ian and Kathy
Love the episode this week. "Camp for a cure" I had a thought.. You would love to build a Van from scratch... Why not build a new Van (get sponsors) and raffle it with proceeds to camp for a cure?
Hi guys thanks so much for your time sharing your adventures and refitting of bertha,my wife Hil and I love watching your videos, hopefully you could give us some advice from an ex caravan builder 😉 we have an older Olympic 20 ft javelin caravan that we could only afford due to hail damage it has mostly to the roof and drivers side ,quotes to repair the roof have been twice the amount we paid for it,it doesn't leak and is registered, was wondering if you think that putting checker plate over the existing roof could work as a cheaper fix and how to go about it cheers Tez
Thanks so much mate! I don’t think the chequer plate would be ideal on the roof. Personally if it doesn’t leek then I’d just roll with it! That’s why so many vans get written off in hail storms as it’s so much work to replace the skins
17:10 Event coordination is an industry in and of itself - keep trying to crack the code to increase donations, or rightfully, make a bit of money. there is nothing wrong with doing that (to cover costs upfront for the next event).
My opinion. Building a caravan yourself, would be more costly than buying one. Unless you can get everything trade/ cost price. It would be tough on the children and their boredom, as with most kids. You didn't mention how the diesel heater performed. Or didn't you need to use it? We are still in the depths of a late winter in the SE of SA. Pat yourselves on the back for a job well done. You both have the personalities and skills to do well. Australia would love you guys and you might come out of it with enough money to buy the caravan of your dreams, maybe more. I think you should really think about it.
You are actually not the first person to tell us this haha I (Erin) have thought about it for year! Well before RUclips even! But I just don’t think I have the emotional resilience lol
If you want to camp you will need something to camp in, doesn’t have to be a caravan though! Tent is fine! There is an amenities block and showers etc at the camp ground :)
You guys need to research composting toilets apparently once you go west trying to find dump points they are becoming non existent. And think of the environment dumping chemicals is not good
