bannur mutton explained, bandur sheep, bandur village, malavalli, mandya, bannur, mysore, mutton biryani, mutton fry, mutton kheema, bannur military hotel, ramaswamy hotel, mutton meal
The Bannur mutton, Karnataka’s most prized mutton, isn’t actually from Bannur. It is the meat of an indigenous variety of sheep that hails from Bandur, a village located between Malavalli and Bannur near Mysuru. Prized for its juicy tender meat, the sheep was traditionally sold in village shanties in Bannur, ergo the acquired moniker, Bannur. I drove to Bannur to learn more about this sheep and also catch a mutton meal at a family eatery, Bannur Ramaswami Military Hotel, that showcases this very special meat in its homestyle preparations. Hope you enjoy this episode, stay safe and happy eating!
Nati Koli Kurma
The chicken has a bit of a chew, a character of the free range chicken, there’s a bit of skin too that adds to the flavourful character of the homestyle curry, which is the sort that goes well with the ragi mudde.
Rs. 110 (usd 1.5)
8/10
Kaima Sambar
Dumplings of rough-ground mutton simmered in a curry, the meat has a springy bite to it. There is also some dil that lends its aroma to the meat balls.
Rs. 100 (usd 1.4)
8.5/10
Mutton Fry
The fat of the Bannur mutton is ribonned through the meat that is deep in its slightly salty, savoury flavours. The curry isn't too spicy, and is quite happy playing second fiddle to the flavour of the meat.
Rs. 150 (usd 2.1)
8.5/10
Bannur Mutton Biryani
You can nose the kasoori methi (dried fenugreek) in the aroma of the biryani, there’s the warming heat of the red chillies and spices that you can taste on the palate, a touch of tang from the tomatoes… the kolam rice is tasty all in itself, also having absorbed the character of the meat. The meat is soft and moist, deep pink in its colour and veined with fat. This is a biryani you should eat hot, do not allow it to cool down for the fat tends to congeal.
Rs. 160 (usd 2.2)

Shorter fore limbs and longer "hind" limbs... While conducting meat food show presentation the quality of the video will improve if you use some apt words on the meat animals, that will enrich the content. Your English is anyways unquestionable otherwise.

This episode truly defines how humble and hospitable is kannada janaru .. proud to be a kannadiga .. thank you Kripal sir .... it was a juicy and tender episode
Truly humble kannada culture and great tradition and culture and I am also kannadiga and proud to be brought up here
I really like how foods like ragi mudde are still being continued by people of Karnataka. Salute. Where as in tamilnadu and Kerala somehow those maida filled parota has taken over Street food culture. I don't mind eating in once a while but I feel it's not as healthy of an option as a ragi mudde
Actually maida parota is not at all healthy. Don't know why it's consumed in large scale in these 2 states ( TN and KL)
True. Atleast kerala folks eat red (matta) rice, TN is too much on white rice as well.
@@bindukumarkithoormaat6436 during 2nd world war we did face grain shortage and had to eat maida parotta dish originally from srilanka....That's why you see TN and KL eating this
which street food even serves Ragi mudde ? only military hotels and hotels in the village side serve Ragi mudde ! sadly even kanadigas are slowly moving away from Raggi mude !
We eat ragi ball evryday at home
Having A ragi mudde is an art and you are trying it a right way.. Love towards promoting the local food.
"Bengaluru" in your mouth is soothing. True kannadiga.
Kind hearted innocent people , jai Karnataka
Jai Karnataka Indeed Thamma.
Sir, being a Kannadiga and staying in Karnataka all my life, I only knew that it is very famous and only a few times that I have tasted the dishes of Bannur sheep but never knew the fact of breed specialty and history. Thank you much for showing this sir, enjoyed the video very much.
Hotel owner not only Posses Good tasty food also Good & thoughtfully mentioned best for life quotes all around the walls .. Keep the good work going Kripal Sir & Hotel Owner...!!
I tried to read it, can you please translate.
Thank you so much for your encouragement sir❤️❤️. Keep supporting us...🙏🙏
Karnataka is Awesome -- anywhere you goo.....
Ragi mudde eating skill has so much improved... Now I can sense our culture growing in u❤️
Thank u Kripal sir👍
Isn't that sheep way too cute😍😍 to make meal out of it one day 🥺🥺
That sheep is really so cute🤩
What I love about south India is simple arrangements. Clean and great hospitality. Also to mention is their love towards their local language. Everywhere they write in their local language. If i plan to visit south i will definitely go as per your recommendations.
After watching food lovers tv i got to knew about karnataka food, thank you fltv
Sir Glad you visited this part of Karnataka to taste the flavours of Bannur/ Banndur Biryani!
First: the Towns Bannur n Banndur
Bannur is just 24 Kilometres from Mysore
Banndur is around 8 kilometers from Malavalli!
Now; the sheep breed:
Bannur sheep:
Bannur sheep is local natti sheep found In all villages n towns common breed.
Banndur Sheep:
Banndur Sheep breed has its origin in Town Banndur ! It is rare breed with just few thousands in number all over Karnataka. The Banndur Sheep is shorter and bulkier ; it is much shorter than the local natti sheep. Banndur Sheep also have curvy n sloping spine !
It's meat is very tasty and it is also breed to conserve the bloodline n purity of the breed.
I have made tons of videos on Banndur Sheep Farm and Bannur sheep farms of this region!
Thanks 🙏🤝👍
Hi Mysore Studio,
Glad to see you here. Learnt much from your videos. Thank you.
Karnataka rural non veg cuisine is great. Love from Tamilnadu.
One Mr. Ramesh, a former Professor has been mobilizing farmers to increase the Bandur sheep livestock which had dwindled alarmingly. His efforts must be commended. It would be nice if there's an episode on his efforts and turn this delicacy into a global brand on the same lines as Wagyu beef, Iberian ham and Yellow tail tuna etc.
Japanese or Italians would have branded such a meat to meaty prices(like wagyu or kobe beef).
Hi Chandrashekar... Would you have the contact details of Mr.Ramesh? I would love to get in touch with him.
Greetings from the united states its 12 45 am and watching this video is making me hungry

I show your videos to my geographically challenged colleagues here in the US who stereotype South Indian cuisine to be mere Idly Dosa. I wait for them to say "ohh okay." Everytime! :)

😃You went straight to Bannur to taste the famous bannur meat. 👍
The video was informative too. I personally learnt about the bantur sheep. In fact I am seeing the bantur sheep for the first time. It looks cute actually😍.
Keep up your good work in exploring good food, Sir.
Stay safe😷 drive safe. God bless you richly.
Excellent review Kripalji. I really love the whole idea of you going to the local eateries which are for masses and introduce the 5 star going people to these more flavorful, more tastier, more full dishes. 70% success is due to this concept and icing on the cake is the way you review. Outstanding..
Kripal sir, your ragi mudde eating skills can improve a bit but comparatively wayyyyyyyy better than a lot of people I know.
Pl. note Bandur is a village coming in between Malavalli and Halagur( Kanakapura Road). Bannur is between Mysore and Malavalli, almost at mid point. Malavalli is a town in Mandya District, while Bannur is a hobli in T.N Pur taluk in Mysore District.
Yummy.😋😋..felt like visiting bannur Ramswamy Military Hotel👍👍
Visited this hotel last week man ohh man the biriyani is out of the world n the owner is generous he offered free banana n beeda.
