    The end of Daydreaming is astonishing. They reverse Yorke's vocal ad-lib so that is jarring and abrupt. Then the strings play exactly the same jarring and abrupt melody. Then, we hear the growing, reversed speech as the song ends. I've never heard anything like it, it is to date their most experimental piece of music, extraordinary.

    True Love Waits was written in the 90s and finally got a record release on Moon Shaped Pool

    • @NehemiahRyan
      @NehemiahRyan 2 года назад

      I was going to bring that up. Radiohead fans that started following the band in the 90s know that the song is old and doesn’t have anything to do with Thom’s break up with his wife.
      Also, the original live version is way, way better than this version. It’s the same with Motion Picture Soundtrack. The demo/live versions are way better than the album.

      @el_mal_de_ojo 2 года назад +3

      @@NehemiahRyan Well, for one - whether one is better or worse is completely subjective as with literally every piece of music. And while it may not have been written about his wife's break-up and her subsequent passing, don't you think that the fact that those things happened and he's decided to change the arrangement and officially release it mean something? Doesn't the meaning of the song change as the context changes?

    • @760MaxJ
      @760MaxJ 2 года назад +2

      @@el_mal_de_ojo Personally I feel like the version of it on A Moon Shaped Pool is just so emotionally intense and heavy that it’s nearly a completely different song. I prefer it but it’s way harder to listen to than the 90s version because of that. Also, I feel like the original 90s version was more about the future of a relationship and the excitement of feeling like you’ve found the right partner and the 2016 version is about the desperate attempt to cling to that same “right” partner when you know you’re losing them. It’s really tragic too considering that Thom’s wife passed away shortly after AMSP was released. He probably knew she was in poor health during the making of the album.

    I was kinda surprised you skipped over Present Tense so quickly, was one of my favourite Radiohead songs years before the release of this album, going right back to a recording from.. I think 2009. Maybe I'm in a minority? Though I did sorta of get the vibe that you were really getting ready to wrap-up the vid at that point.

    Excellent reaction video, I really enjoy how you both get into the music. The song daydreaming is meant to be listened to with closed eyes.... I would recommend to watch the video for that song which was done by Paul Thomas Anderson.... It matches the song perfectly.

  • @cc3230

    Tinker tailor soldier spy rich man poor man beggar man thief is one of my favourite tracks on the album. The strings make me feel like I’m falling down a mountain, similar to the way songs on Kid A had me feel. Especially the strings at the end. The track’s title is also just a cool, shameless reference. A Moon Shaped Pool’s strings feel the most realized? Mature? Out of all Radiohead’s records imo.
    This was a cool choice to introduce your father to Radiohead. The album’s context makes it that much more devastating, too

      @@kevinfromttt Oh shit TTT album coming? I'm a bit biased by my age but I think the last decade or so of music was the best we've seen since 65-75, there's just a lot to wade through to find the diamonds. Really awesome to see you still inspired by new stuff with all your musical history.

    “Decks Dark,” my favourite song on the album, appears at the climax of episode 1 of season 1 of “Ozark,” but the show uses the tremolo picking sound from the song’s beginning three more times (by my count) throughout the series, like an emotional leitmotif.
