Thank you, thank you! I'm not experienced with mechanic-ing beyond moving my bindings for powder days... This video helped so much. I appreciate the extra detail comments; felt like I knew exactly what I was supposed to be doing every step of the way. One hour install, tops
Thanks dude! Iam getting my Splitboard tomorrow. This videp helps me alot. Ive been riding for years but its my first Splitboard. Iam so stoked to try it 👌🤙🤙
Big fan of the radio boardshop and looking forward to watching this channel grow. I think im leaning towards the karakoram over the Spark as the fitment and build quality seems superior. Having ridden the Spark, the lightweight nature is great, and they're super easy to mount, but I definitely felt the board flex more. The Karakoram heel riser is also seemingly less prone to bending like I've done on my Sparks. Anyways, Cheers from the front range.
Nice man! I also picked up the recons this year! I have the prime x carbon for pure backcountry days, so I wanted something for inbounds or side country days with a little more cushion under foot! I’m on last years solution so not spoon for me :( One thing, when lining up the heal piece in split mode, you want to line it up based on the metal wire which you can use to lock your heal down, not the riser position against the binding. Make sure the bolts can engage fully and underneath when the metal wire is raised.
Thanks, sound like you've got a great setup even without the spoon nose. I think lining up the heel like I did lines up the metal piece that you are talking about as well. Be safe out there
@@SearchofSnowboarding oh perfect! Yes, I’m quite happy with my setup :) You too man! If you ever make it out to Telluride and want a buddy for some laps, let me know!
@@SearchofSnowboarding OK, so I've got the board all set up... the only problem is that when I put the ride bindings where I want them for my normal stance, the touring bindings foul on the inside of the back foot binding, meaning I can't mount the binding without flipping up the touring binding. It isn't even on the narrowest setting. It works OK if I just flip up the touring binding and leave it flipped up - but this seems really messy. I suppose I could move both bindings back a notch to overcome this but it seems crazy that they've put the holes there for mounting the bindings if you can't even use them. Any ideas? Jones Dreamcatcher 151cm board and Karakoram bindings.
@@janeweir2588 Yeah, I've dealt with that before on a dreamcatcher. That board doesn't allow you to mount as narrow as the holes provide. You just have to go with a wider stance, or keep the heel risers flipped.
@@SearchofSnowboarding well, the bindings are on now and they were a bit fiddly, so we'll see how it goes with the tour binding flipped up! Thanks for the help 🙂
You should definitely be able to get it to -15. Sometimes the sliding piece that adjusts the angle can get a little stuck when you're setting it up. And make sure that your using the designated left and right foot plate accordingly
Thank you so much for posting this! the video supplied on the Karakoram website is a bit dated haha! I just wonder if you also have to have the Karakoram Clips for their binding set up (as it states in their outdated video) or if you can continue to use the factory clips on your split board with the Karakoram split set up?
If you are talking about the board clips that hold the two skis of the board together, no you do not need specific Karakoram clips. I will say that the Karakoram clips are a great upgrade though, especially their locking nose and tail clips. One of the reasons I like the Jones splitboards is because they use karakoram hardware for all of the clips on the board. Glad this video helped. Get that board set so your ready as soon as winter is here!
Thanks for this video. Im getting my first split set up together now. Looking at Karakoram Prime Ranger. Karakoram bindings include everything needed to mount the board for both up and down hill right? So besides the board and these bindings I should only need to buy skins and maybe crampons?
Correct. The bindings come with all the mounting hardware and uphilling hardware. You probably won't need crampons unless you plan on very steep ascents. Get some good collapsible poles though
All right new subscriber here😉 ...I got myself a pair of Free Rangers for this season with two pair of Quiver Connectors (so that I can use the bindings with the Splitboard and with both my solid boards... well I’d have three of ‘em, I’ll gear up in the future for that 😄). Anyway the binding’s split-kit only includes the single risers though and I believe I’m gonna need the Dual risers instead, did you get them as an optional for your Recon? Will they work (heel lock included) also on the Free Ranger?
Awesome, thanks for joining along Vito! The Karakoram bindings that come with the split conversion kit only come with the single heel riser, unfortunately. For some reason Karakoram sells their higher end "splitboard specific" bindings with all of the necessary split components and these do come with the double heel rise, as mine did. You can buy the double heel riser separately and it is meant to work with all of their bindings including your Freeranger. Sounds like you're gonna have some sick setups! And stay tuned, we're planning on putting out better split videos this season
@@SearchofSnowboarding all right, so I assume you had to purchase the dual speed risers separately didn't you? I'd have a curiosity though, what's the actual weight of the Recon binders? Did you ever put them on a scale?
@@vitodamianofabellini2332 The Freeranger and the Layback that come with the split conversion kit only come with the single riser. My Recon came with the double. And the Freerangers and Recon are both 815 grams
So is it normal after the first time splitting the board into ski mode (I have the ultralight solution with same bindings to have a ver very slight offset between the heel Side of the board to the toe side it might be 1/2 mm if that and really only begin the contact point but enough that my fingernail catches for sure. The rest between bindings is solid and the tip and tail are lined up perfect so just curious if I should e contacting jones about it or jot
There can be a little play between the two skis if there are cheaper clips on the board, but any movement should be eliminated once the bindings are locked onto the plates
@@SearchofSnowboarding Would you mind taking a look at my video I uploaded? The binding are locked into place and the clips seem okay in terms of being tight. Thanks! ruclips.net/video/8QzhV82AgPA/видео.html
@@markkamner6562 Now I understand. At first I thought you meant they were sliding a little in the nose and tail direction. What you have going on is completely normal for any splitboard.
How do you like Reacon Bindings? I was thinking to buy them or the Free Ranger model. Does the Reacon model feel too stiff or restrict range of motion? Did you get dual heel riser separate or does it come with the bindings?
I love the Recon bindings, but I always like riding stiffer, more responsive gear. It doesn't feel restrictive to my motion, but I do like to feel locked in. Because the Karakoram sells the Recon as a splitboard binding it does come with the dual heel riser. The Freeranger is sold as a regular binding which you have to convert with their split kit, and their split kit only comes with the single heel riser. Hope that helps. Thanks, and don't forget to subscribe!
@@SearchofSnowboarding Large size, just kinda weird design, adjusted to just rest on a flat metal area and got it to work out. They have a whole "dedicated" area for the riser to land, but it isn't possible with my setup 😂. Ultimately led to confusion that was overcome.
Hi there, I’m a new user of prime x carbon. I’m troubled by one problem, my toe trap always to tight too loose it, I have to pull really hard to loose it. It’s there any good way to solve it? Thx a lot
Trouble with threading screws! I have a new Venture Paragon splitboard and new Karakoram Free Ranger set up. HOWEVER- when I try to mount the bindings or the touring kit all the screws feel like they are missthreading, or having to be forced way past tight to get them anywhere near flush. I have stopped the process after trying to get in two screws, for fear of stripping the board threads. Seriously discouraged. Ant ideas !! My assumption is that the threads are standard across snowbaords. Is it the pre applied blue Loctitite I need to get past? Is it an issue with Venture board female threads? Help would be appreciated from anyone. I have also contaced each company with this issue. Thanks!
I have set up many Karakoram bindings through our shop and have never had any problems with the hardware. That makes me think it could be an issue with the board. I did recently have a customer that had a lower end splitboard and the female inserts weren't quite right, so maybe it's the board. It's hard for me to say without seeing it in person. If you have a local shop that you can bring it into they might be able to help you out better. Hope that helps. Thanks, Don
@@SearchofSnowboarding Its $900+ board from Ventutre, so I would not say its lower end. But maybe the hardware is simply a mismatch? That would really suck. Thanks for the feedback. I am all the way in northern Maine, so not many shops nearby I trust to redo the female hardware on a brand new board.
I’m not sure what to say about these, but if it takes multiple hours to install the rear piece after flipping the angle plates for a greater than 10° angle; you better think again about buying these, absolutely frustrating
