The Sun (and snow) Finally Returns | A Dark and Snowless Winter in Arctic Norway

  • Living with the polar nights this year has been something else. It has been a dark and snowless winter in the arctic Northern Norway. With little to no snow, the "mørketid" (polar nights) has been darker than ever. We need the snow, because the light reflects on the white surface, which makes the small daylight last just a little longer. This is also terrible conditions for wildlife. Birds and animals use the snow to hide and seek warmth. But when the ground is a frozen desert, many dies from the cold.
When the ground is dark and bare as it is now, the few hours of daylight is hardly noticeable.
But the "Soldagen" (the sun-day) is upon us, which means that the sun returns. We have not seen the life-warming star since november, so it'll be a sight for sore eyes.
I am very certain that both snow and a proper arctic winter will make its entrance in late January/early February, so things will eventually go back to normal.
Thank you for watching and reading!

I thought my homeland of Scotland was beautiful but your home is stunning. The air looks so clean and clear. The stars in the night sky are so easily seen with no light pollution.

Where I live, there is little light pollution, except for lights from the houses, so you can clearly see the sky, northend lights, moon and everything. It is amazing and the sharp, clean air and water is my favourite thing about living here.
Oh my, Scotland!! I rarely travel and don't enjoy it very much, but to visit Scotland is one of my top dream-places to visit! It is truly a magical place from what I've seen from pictures and videos. Great people aswell in my experience!

    Greetings!
I am a new subscriber here. There are reasons why the world should thank Norway. For example, you have Thomas Bergersen and Marithe Soltvedt, and now - it's you because of your talent and beauty. Oh, I watched the "12th Man" a few weeks ago. What a great movie because of the exceptional strength and will of the main character.

Hi there. I've watched all your videos with interest, especially as you work on your cottage and garden. However, I was wondering how far North in Norway do you live, approximately of course? It will give some perspective, especially as I don't experience Polar Nights here in South Wales. Keep up,the great posts.
