The Reality of Deer Hunting in New England | Early Season Bowhunting | Sea Bucks

  • S1.E5. During the early season, the Sea Bucks crew strikes when they feel that odds are highest. Unfortunately, weather conditions foster few of these opportunities. Oftentimes, the deer movement is slow. While the New Hampshire crew is forced to spend time scouting, the Coastal Maine hunters catch a break in the warm weather and spend a couple days hunting over a clover plot.
    1:33 It's September 28, and it's hot. Instead of going hunting, the New Hampshire Sea Bucks crew has a fun outing with the family.
    2:42 The next day, Joy and Roberge head afield to check some cameras. They also scout a mountain, locate a great hunting spot, and put out a cell camera.
    4:10 On October 5, 180 miles to the northeast, the Coastal Maine crew lays the groundwork for Main's mainland archery opener. Josh Leach is up to bat. He heads to a food plot where he tagged his first deer in 2005.
    9:00 As sunlight fades, deer pile into the clover. Bucks and does of all sizes enter the open to feed on the lush, green growth. A couple young bucks even spar in the food plot.
    11:50 The next day, Leach hangs a treestand on the edge of that same clover field. It's a great spot.
    13:32 On October 7, a weather front moves through, and the rain event gets deer up on their feet. Leach sits the treestand they hung the previous afternoon. Deer pile into the open once again. Another great sit.

    It’s great to see New England in the Hunting sphere, great legends in the woods but also incredibly difficult to get. I am proud to hunt here. From South Shore MA myself.

    I like hunting NH it's the hardest place to hunt but bigger body bucks are worth the wait

    • @derekjohnson4109
      @derekjohnson4109 Год назад +1

      Why is it the hardest? I would’ve figured more wilderness in northern NE in general would give you more opportunity.

    • @sycamoreandsalt
      @sycamoreandsalt Год назад

      @@derekjohnson4109 More wilderness is what makes it hard. No corn, bean or alfalfa fields to work off of. The deer density is super low. It's a place where you're not allowed to bag two deer in one hunt, they want you to work for it in order to raise the population. I'm in NH now, coming from PA, I was used to game trails- ain't no trails here.

    I hunt and live in northern Maine. Hard place to hunt bucks. I would have flanked in working the wind snuck up the hill top and set my saddle in one of those trees and shot that buck. Run and gun hasn't caught on in Maine yet

      @@kenpagal727 they are out there. to get an older buck to cross your path around here you have to be persistent and really pay attention to detail. things that would never scare a young buck or doe will ghost a mature buck. Goodluck

      got a 128'' 5 years back in foster RI dressed 212lbs looks great on the wall next to the eight pointer from Winn co Maine I got on Fri the 13th 2015. Nothing like the woods of New England. Private land permission is hard to come by but I too love hunting small public land. Hunting 2 now with the bow.....lots of sign, lots of browse and acorns.
      seen a few does in both spots. Fall in New England is truly magical! To he hunt.......
