Easy to get bogged in the Flinders Ranges after a rain event. I got bogged there a few weeks back. Your video shows the benefit of going in a party rather than solo (which I was). The trick is not to panic and so dig yourself in deeper.
Glad you enjoyed Blinman and surrounds but you missed so much. Friday night is pizza night at the pub and we’ll worth it. The mine tour with Susanne is a must and near where you were staying at the gorge is an amazing old mine you can drive out to. with some amazing ruins and much more . I love it there, local population 25
Another option to go for as a power generator is a wind generator to keep it as green as you can (apart from the fact you are towing a caravan and getting around 30L per 100 K, haha) and light weight, they work on a zephyr of a breeze. "usually" there is a breeze in the afternoon in the bush/outback and if its storming you still have power generation night or day. Hate being near those petrol genies when one is trying to enjoy the serenity...
Hi guys I have the same problem, we travel with portable panels as well ,but as you know no sun nopower we had a cheap gen ,and found it unrealable under certain conditions ,up graded to a 2.2 kva Honda 😉👍 Enjoy
Thanks mate! I guess everyone’s situation is different isn’t it? We ended up with a cheap genie and it’s good enough for now to get us through, at the end of the day a bigger battery system is the goal. Cheers!
Rawnsley Park is a Station. We did your route to Parachilna Gorge. Then onto the Praire Hotel. Amazing walks. Were afraid to camp in the riverbed in case it started filling with water. Can walk from Rawnsley Park through to a lookout of Wilpena Pound. Not for toddlers though.
Make the rule like i do on my Boat and Caravan, number 1 is the 12v fridge's same as my Caravan, all way's start the motor when using the inverter, now you realise how much power you need or you use in a house, i have 4 x 130amp hr lithium batterys in each and make sure you have your roof full of solar panels
Get a Honda 2.2 gene. Got us out of trouble a few times. Nice and quiet but always ask neighbours (if we have any close) if they mind us using it. No one has had a problem with it.👍
another good vid mate as far as buying a generator goes i did a 2year off grid trip around ozz back in 2018 -2020...pre covid i had a genny with me and i only had to use it 3 times with that said im glad i had it and i will always have one always have a plan B and a C as well love your work guys stay normal love from Queensland
Thanks so much mate! We have bought a genie but have to say it’s a similar situation, haven’t used it all that much but very glad we did for those times!
Yeah I agree with having a geny! For peace of mind sake, knowing you have a plan B is a big relief when on the road. I bought a good second hand Honda EU20i for $1000. Will use it for a couple of years then probably easily sell for close to what it cost as they hold their value like Landcruisers👍👍
Great video. We did the Flinders Ranges in early May and were totally blown away. The Oodnadatta Track opened just as we left Alpana Station so we managed to get through it. A great experience topped off by a flight over Lake Eyre to see it with water in it. Look forward to following your travels.
I had the same problem as you guys. I'm only in a camper trailer but the 3 X AMG batteries were not cutting it, so many cloudy days, more than I planned for. So replaced them with 3 X 100amp lithium batteries, not the over the top costly one's, VoltaX $450 each, plus a lithium charger and boy it's great. I do have a 1KW genny, but hate running that, plus it's getting old, hard to start, needs a new pull cord, so it's going and don't want to new one. But in your case a Kings genny could be a good idea, but for me, would go for a battery upgrade.
loving your videos, we’ve just done a 17,000k trip of WA from the Gold Coast and when we pick up our new hybrid caravan we are off again, I think a good investment for your trip would be a bar and good winch just for those sticky moments, looking forward to your next adventures 😁
Make sure you turn your inverter off fully when not in use, I'm thinking you must be getting very close to your full GVM now with the boat and motor and maybe a genny??? check your panels for begin clean. ad your solar joins on the roof. some have been know to have bad connections after a while.
Thanks mate! The joins on the roof are one thing I’d like to look into as I think it would improve the connection and up our amps coming in. Thanks mate!

Hi! We are currently funding our travels from inheritance and selling our home in Brisbane. Budgeting is something we struggle with and always have! We try to be sensible but often over spend!
Awesome, If yours has the bmpro like our JB it doesn’t have a dcdc charger built in to the management system, it’s an additional unit called a mini boost pro. It gives you 30 amps. Redarc do a 50amp as well if you’re after more charge. Not sure whether your 200ah is agm or lithium, lithium have a greater depth of discharge and a much lighter so would be another possible solution if you’re still having issues. Cheers
