Major difference, security etc. Look up robot vacuums being hacked and the hacker turning on the camera to look at women showering and uploaded the footage online. It's a privacy issue that can be far worse than some old lady looking out her window. Now, outside cameras that record places in public view. Not an issue with me. But the issue of cameras can get serious, as I suggested previously.

Actually it should only be an issue if there’s a breach of “Reasonable expectation of privacy” You should and are allowed federally to film any public space. Reserves are a bit different because they are out of provincial and municipal control. But the idea still stands, as long as the camera isn’t breaching anyone’s “reasonable expectation of privacy”. I can stand outside your house, across the street, and legally film your house as long as I’m not trying to film _inside_ your house explicitly.
What does the reserve have to hide? If they're so big on protection. But they don't like the cameras. Sounds like that reserve has something big hidden, in the background and they don't want anybody to find out about it.
I set up security cameras on reservation with no issues because it's private land owned. Those buildings on Caldwell rez is rental properties not owned by Caldwell residents. Have to abide with Caldwell rules. Til Caldwell residents gets their own properties on Caldwell land then they can do whatever they want on their properties. Same applies to rental apartments anywhere no security camera or camera doorbell is allowed on their apartment doors. I know some rental duplexes on rez has Ring camera wireless doorbells but no issue has arisen. I guess it's based on individual rez band office's rules
They are renting and didn't get permission to drill and install cameras into the siding, and changed the installed doorbell... It's not crazy to be found in breach of renter's agreement.

Nobody is being discriminated against lol. It is this reservation's BAND COUNCIL that objects to these cameras and has given the eviction notice. They obviously signed a contract when they were approved to rent their home, about no cameras and now they're breaching that. This isn't just a case of swapping out a doorbell camera, they actually screwed into the siding to put up cameras on the side of the rental, you can see this @1:32. With any rental you want to stay you have to abide by the rental agreement you signed and follow those rules.
As a tenant you do not have a right to start drilling holes on the outside structure. It even was mentioned in the video. Structural integrity. Now what happens if they were to move out and the next tenant doesn’t want a doorbell camera.
Fill the holes. The door frame isn't compromised by two holes. Last I checked, it's their security deposit, etc., not yours on the chopping block. Security means more than the worry of drilling holes for peace of mind.
