*I already own the Battle II combo **enjoyable.fishing** recommend and decided to try a Fierce II combo to carry out to the pier. Works great and for the money they are hard to beat.*

if you are teaching, just teach the right way, no point telling thousand of don;t.
is fast and simple. funny is that most fly casting teach you all the don't.

20 years ago I was a disciple but I have learned he is not a very good caster and can get frustrated easily during class; then takes it out on the student.

      I never liked his techniques

Of course he was a good caster. But he was the salt water guy, and he was the bass guy. I never saw him work trout in a technical situation (though he fished plenty of those situations), or atlantics, steelhead, etc... There are plenty of casters out there.
I saw a couple of his classes, never saw him get frustrated. Maybe he was old, and not quite as sharp by the time he gave up.
Flip tells a story of him doing a demo in early days to a club in florida, and basically setting the whole scene on fire, and teaching Flip how to cast. If a guy comes along and makes it possible to get everyone a little more effective on distance or wind, that is a revolution, and it was. It is what stops guys reaching for the spinning rod at time when they might have.
I taught my daughter to fish this year, and was surprised that she was more effective in the open with a fly rod. The gear, techniques, etc... All so improved these days.

@@HondoTrailside I wonder if girls learn a good fly cast faster, since we guys have to fight our tendency to go harder, faster and longer and thereby smash the front cast.

Well I can testify that Lefty’s principles have been of enormous assistance to me in developing my own casting technique.
I’d guess many experience my main problem, which is lack of discipline during the cast.
