    Thanks for the review! Do you think you could just take the unit to a different level? I have 1 room on a different level, currently have an ecovac and it lets me select auto for a different level (or if I just took it somewhere off the map).

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  12 дней назад +1

      Yeah, you can just put it in a place and press start and it works fine. Any issues, you can always map it once, then just move it up there and start a routine on that map I suspect. But this may be an unecessary step for one room.

    Thanks for this review Chris. A couple of things which I would have like to see was how easy it is to the empty the dust bag. Also, did you need to take the complete unit upstairs or just the cleaner? Looks a great unit but like many new gadgets a bit overpriced.

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  2 месяца назад

      Yeah the price is crazy, isn't it.
      I had to take the whole unit upstairs, as it self-empties a couple of times during the process.
      And yes, I really should have filmed myself emptying the dust bag. Maybe I will stick that up as a separate video for people. It was pretty easy. It doesn't fall out, but it comes to the entrance and I just pulled it out bit by bit with my finger. Took less than 5 minutes to take out, empty and put back in.

    As someone who owns this vacuum and their previous S8 model, I can tell you although they do a good job on floors, the Roborock can be a nightmare connecting to the internet. It frequently disconnects for no reason - like if it's Tuesday or a blue moon, and takes forever to get reconnected.

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  Месяц назад

      Really! That's an interesting bit of feedback, I haven't had any similar problems. I wonder if you need to do something on your router's end to greenlight the connection. You could try resetting your router, that sometimes gets rid of any weird caching or conflict issues.

      Never had an issue with mine disconnecting S8, only issue was the fan bearings going dry and the lack of a sensor to tell if the dust bin on the robot is full, that was disappointing

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  22 дня назад

      @@lookin4ward1 Yeah I really dislike how it can be blocked or need an empty, and you don't know until the robot comes back having done a poor job.

    how do you fill it with water so that you can take it to another level/map in the house without moving the dock alongside? previous models i could just manually fill the water, with this not sure how to check if the robot has water in it for mopping on a differnet map without dock.

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you!
      I don't think it holds much in the way of water after it has re-docked. I just lifted it upstairs, then the dock, and never felt water moving around in it.

    16:40 Mine got stuck in the bathroom. It got over the threshold at the door, but couldn't make its way back. It's a bit of a weird treshold that comes in two steps, I was not surprised that it's giving me issues. All other thresholds in the house work fine.
    It did stop the cleaning routine and notified me that he couldn't find the dock. So as far as I can tell it should have notified you if it got stuck. Also had it once strand on the middle of the same threshold, also then I got a notification (something about the wheels not moving). Since then I added an invisible wall to that threshold, and clean the bathroom manually (no problems since). Which may be good anyway, as there's an increased change of water puddles being present there from the shower, and I don't want it to suck up too much water into the system.

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  Месяц назад

      Really appreciate you adding your experineces into the conversation, very helpful. I haven't had mine not find the dock yet, but I did have it get stuck under a bed and not tell me via a notification.
      At least such things are firmware fixable.

    • @Sjoerd1993
      @Sjoerd1993 Месяц назад +1

      @@motivatedtravel Just to clarify, the reason it could not find the dock was because it couldn't go back through the door as the treshold is slightly higher inside of the bathroom than on the outside. So there was no longer a path he could find that could bring him back to the dock. Which is why I expected it to give a similar message when it got stuck under the bed.
      Not sure what the difference is. Maybe it reacted differently because it physically got stuck somehow, instead of it's entrance/exit being obstructed.

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  Месяц назад

      Thank you! I'm not too sure if the difference in actual cleaning performance is better at all. It's all about agitation, so something vibrating at a ridiculous speed would seem t provide more agitation in my mind that something rotating.

It’s super advanced AI can’t detect strings, which is sad. 😔 $1800 piece of junk. On the positive side :D if I manually vacuum first and have the robot vacuum after, it’ll leave those nice clean carpet streaks in areas we have carpet. :D can’t wait to get rid of this carpet. @@BlazingNina Apart from the spinning mops, the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra has all these features as well. And that's a design choice (if you want a Roborock with spinning mops, there's the Revo). In fact, they're suspiciously similar in many regards, you can clearly see they kinda came from the same company (Dreame is Xiaomi-owned, and Roborock used to be owned by Xiaomi as well if I recall correctly, they're independent nowadays either way).
      The Dreame X40 can drop of the mops at the docking station though when it's doing a vacuum-only run, which is pretty cool. Also I kinda like the RoboSwing thing, where it basically twists itself a bit so that the mops can clean slightly under furniture and such.
      In the end I went with the RoboRock myself (the one in this video). Mainly because its easier to get parts where I live, and it seems to have an easily replaceable battery and I don't want to throw out a $1600 device because of an old battery. But both the Roborock S8 MaxV and the Dreame X40 seem like formidable devices.
