I am very fond of jazz music, and I swear by all the devils in the nether regions that every person shall be spared in whose home a jazz band is in full swing at the time I have mentioned. If everyone has a jazz band going, well, then, so much the better for you people. One thing is certain and that is that some of those people who do not jazz it on Tuesday night (if there be any) will get the axe.
Hell, May 6th, 1919 Esteemed Mortal: They have never caught me and they never will. They have never seen me, for I am invisible, even as the ether that surrounds your earth. I am not a human being, but a spirit and a demon from the hottest hell. I am what you Orlenians and your foolish police call the Axeman.
You have to figure that the writers probably already had this tune in mind before the murders occurred and then to get it published decided to name it after the killer.
Addy C: not strange....I listen to 1910s & 20s jazz while doing coke, heroine, drinking & fucking broads. As it was just like at that time...yes they did all the shit we do now, live wild, live free, have fun. Roaring good time. What do u think the ww1 veterans listened to .... Alot became gangsters & hitmen....they killed people to this music. So what now honey chile?
Tom is one of the best sight-readers there is (IMHO). You're correct when you say that the lyrics are reserved for a piano roll. As far as I know, that roll has not been turned up, and doesn't belong to any public roll archives or private collections. I only hope that if it DOES turn up, someone will have it scanned and re-cut.
Will do! I play this tune often, and lots of people wanted to hear him play it, so I complied with the requests! As soon as I posted it, people were asking me "Why don't YOU play it like that?" So I was happy to see they were satisfied with the results.
for all the comments asking for the sheet music: musescore.com/user/22133626/scores/4799345 I found it easily by searching "The Mysterious Axman's Jazz (dont scare me papa)" sheet music
+Ragtimer95 Hello! I am a Graduate student writing about the Axeman of New Orleans. I was of course lead to your recording, and as the sheet music seems to be quite rare, would you be willing to scan me a copy of the sheet music? If you would be willing to do so, I will send you an email. Thanks!
Is this really sight-read? That's really impressive. I ordered the shit music from a university in the US some time ago, but couldn't play it - I've never heard it before. I'm really curious about the lyrics as well - If I remember correctly, they are "Reserved for mechanical reproduction", which I assume means pianola. If anyone has seen the lyrics, please let me know! My band recorded a song about the axeman some time ago. Search for "Flatliners axeman's jazz" if you want to see it.
+Rory Belsen The inside of the original sheet music says lyrics were "reserved for mechanical reproduction only". (piano roll). None of the piano roll collectors I know (all of who have thousands upon thousands of rolls) have ever seen it. Several ragtime authorities think the roll wasn't a hot seller and could only be purchased per request to have it punched.
Y'ALL BETTER JAZZ IT

Ya'll better start jazzing it.
Ya like jazz?
I am in close connections with the angel of death
This is strangely jolly for a song about an ax murderer...
Indeed it is. Still a great tune nonetheless!
Its not a song about an ax murderer
Its a song the Axeman himself wrote
The song was so that he wont kill anyone playing the song

Braydan Issermoyer wrong....braydan...? Lol get a new name

There is no way he sight read that that fast. Some of the time he was even looking at the piano instead of the music.
Tom is the best sight reader I’ve ever met. He absolutely was sight reading this.
@@Ragtimer95 Tom needs a channel! I'd love to hear his advice on the subject.

Sounds like it could accompany movie.
Where did you get the sheet music for that? I've been looking everywhere online
Buzzfeed unsolved y'all!!!!
I really need to play this song. Plz plz plz please tell me where you got it. I can't find it anywhere
You know for something inspired by a real life serial killer this wasn't bad
Now to find those lyrics...
They never caught the killer, he is most likely dead by now. So the people in New Orleans are not forced to dance to jazz music, or be killed. XD
+Michael Johnson he IS dead now, not likely
well since the murder happened in 1918 -1919 then he's definitely dead plus one of the most accused suspects was shot so
Watermelon woman I was joking hence the XD face I made in my comment. I know he was a murder but still an amusing one.
He's probably some mentally insane person who just loved killing people.

Bro I wish one day I discover who the axeman was or at least make a series trying to figure out who it was XD
Better then velma
(Pun intended)
Is there any doubt that sooner or later you WILL play it like that?
Next time tell him: "... the people in Texas and in Switzerland..."!
Isn't this more technically a Prima Vista?
That's the same thing.
Anyone else came here after watching Mysteries at the Museum?
Fluffy Nekoi yes, infact i am watching the episode at this moment. i love jazz and this song is awsome
