Wow. Thanks for a Scott Joplin turnaround in present day. Beautiful rag with such an incredible personal touch.. Wish that I could share this one with the world!!
I read on an older video that Tom doesn't generally do Joplin, but has he ever done the Searchlight Rag? It's my favourite ragtime tune and I'd love to hear Tom do it.
VivaLaGiygas I mentioned to him that a lot of people know Searchlight Rag (it's rarely played even by those who do play a lot of Joplin) because it was in Roller Coaster Tycoon. He said doesn't know it by heart so he'd need the music to be able to play it. One of these days I or someone should bring a copy of the music to one of the meetings.
He even named a couple of his pieces after an ice cream company (Cedar Crest -- ruclips.net/video/EgEgC2G0ATY/видео.html ) and his favorite flavor of theirs (Elephant Tracks -- ruclips.net/video/VQiqiiZzofY/видео.html ).
Takeshi Hama… this wouldn't be the same Takeshi Hama that wrote a lot of the main music for Super Mario 3D Land and some other Nintendo games of recent years, would it?
Every video I've seen of Tom, he's always wearing his watch in some bizarre fashion. Usually, its with the face of the watch facing away from the pinky finger side of his hand, which would make it rather uncomfortable to read any way you try to rotate the hand. And here... he's wearing it over top of his shirt sleeve?

Yet another great rag from Mr. Brier! I have a question: I know that Tom mostly cover rags, but would it be possible recording him jam over a rock 'n' roll tune (i.e Roll Over Beethoven, Johnny B. Goode)? It would be fun hearing a Brierized Roll over Beethoven! Cheers!
Keeper1st Hello, Keeper1st! Can Tom Brier sight-read classical music too? I am really impressed about his skill. I would love to see him sight-reading classical, if you havent done any video of this, could you do it? Thanks! ;)))
Natanstr With difficulty. It's not in his "wheelhouse" as it were. I did shoot some video of him sight-reading some Shostakovich with a couple other players, but one of the other players requested it not be posted.
Same for me. I can read and play ragtime without any problem (swing / jazz / blues / boogie as well) . But classical (master) pieces are more difficult for me. I don't know why. A friend of mine is the opposite: he is a classical pianist and can't play ragtime easily. I found the sheet music on your website. Thanks!
Doesn't sound anything like The Entertainer to me -- besides the fact that The Entertainer is in C and Last Rag is in G-flat, there's no melodic similarity either.
Indeed some strains do sound similar but that’s a different story, as Mr.O’dell has stated the structure and of the pieces are entirely different with near zero similarities.
Thuy Kobe I have had one of my RUclips subscribers show up at one of the meetings. He even came prepared, giving Tom sheet music for "Faster Than All" from Mario Party. I have a video online of the ensuing sight-read.
Hey keeper! I notated a ragtime-y version of the Cave Story theme, but since I doubt I'll ever meet Tom irl, could you print it out and have him play it? You can find the music here: www.noteflight.com/scores/view/ed38f0cecb9357bdbba3b1c74f5593668f06778e
No matter what piece he plays he makes it sound amazing
I've always loved these sight-read videos... The improvising has always been my favorite part of them!
These videos are an absolute joy! Thank you for sharing them!
Always a joy to see this guy play!
I'm really glad to see a new "classic-style" Tom-plays-and-brierizes-video-game-music-in-the-Ice-Cream-Emporium video! More, please... :-)
The anime was based on the game, and this particular piece is from the anime. Excellent work as always, keep it up !
Gourmet Race from Kirby please!!!! It's not a rag but... Tom Brier would play that masterfully!!!
this a million times, this!
oh yes please kirby!!!!
Seconded!
I wish he did
3:52 real talent
One of the dudes I miss the most

It would be really cool to see Tom Brier play the theme from Banjo Kazooie. That theme was my childhood, and I'd love to see what he could do with it!
Awesome

Always surrounded by ice cream, should call him Tom Breyer

Yes. When I looked it’s page up on the Japanese Wikipedia, it says that he composed a few Nintendo games.
OMG TOM IN 60 FPS!!!

NICE!

yerk55 Wearing it over the shirt sleeve prevents it from flopping around into those other awkward positions!
Can you have him play "Heart and Soul"?!? Its supposed to be a duet but a couple people I know can do it with two hands!!
can i suggest getting tom to play any 1 of the many Terry Bogard themes from King of Fighters?
I think Tom should play maple leaf rag in May 1916
Sinking Simulator If you can provide the time machine to get to May 1916...
lol XD

Has anyone seen Tom Brier without his beard??
For the first several years I knew him, he was clean-shaven. In one video of mine there is a photo of him pre-beard...
Could you indicate in which video Tom appears without his beard ? It would be interesting to see that !
It's called "Tom Brier CDs" as I recall.

@@Keeper1st That would be a proper treat to hear, especially considering we won't be hearing anything new from Tom for a bit. Shostakovich is great!

Where are these videos recorded btw? I've never known.
PersianPlatypus Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium, 51 Main Street, Sutter Creek, California.
Keeper1st Thank you :)
It sounded a bit like The Entertainer there. Anyone else hear that?

Loved it, just not the people talking in the back round :/
