I never thought I'd find 45 minute POV videos of somebody walking around to be so addictive. Watching these has got me wanting to bust out the wallet and buy an Osmo and go somewhere, and I don't even have the time right now to travel. That's how much I'm enjoying these videos.
Action kid: you make popular " the walking" like a nice hobby. Usually people don't like to walk. thanks for that and discover for us little places of new York.
@Runner Girl Agree with you again Runner. Most people I know love to walk. My doc suggested walking when I kept breaking and twisting things after running. If you can walk four miles an hour and go twice as far I understand one gleans the same benefit as running for that distance. Whatever the pace, the body needs to stay in motion to remain sound. Richard, pls walk as much as you can, you will never be sorry. Its good for you.
@Runner Girl You put me to shame. I'm younger but prone to - friends say like to play hurt. I truly love to run but have learned that for me brisk walking is a better choice. I so admire that you can still run - wish it was me but we all play the hand we're dealt, yes? There are so many who are so much worse off that I am embarrassed to appear to complain. Thank you for your comment. Peace.
Love the video. Cherry Grove is definitely more down to earth and friendlier than the pines. Notice how people actually said hi. None of that pretentiousness you find in the Pines.
Spent many summers there. This made me smile. Loved your narration and enthusiasm. Even saw people I know. That burned out building used to be a famous bar/restaurant called The Monster. Same owner as the one in the Village, but that was many years ago.
For two tiny Gay & Lesbian towns, the boards are real and are maintained continuously. There are no cars allowed or street lamps. We walk everywhere, and we play anywhere. Those pine bushes are real too.
3 years ago in 2019 me and my aunt walked from Ocean Beach to the Sunken Forest National Park. Took us about 7 miles and 3 hour but ti was the most memorable part of our vacation!
That was interesting. I'm a hard core New Yorker, Long Island and NYC, and I never new about this place. I mean, of course I heard of Fire Island, but I didn't know it looked like this. It looks like a foreign country. Watched the whole vid. That was fun. ActionKid is so pleasant to listen too.
It seems like more is going on in Cherry Grove than the Pines. Love how the boardwalks weave their way through natural ecosystems. I think I would need a trusty flash light if doing evening walks, for it doesn't seem like the boardwalk is lit at night. And wow, that was one expensive breakfast! Very enjoyable walk.
@@LouGrant999 Sure, if you like - why not. Personally, I never need it, neither does my partner. On the other hand, I have no objection to anyone else utilizing whatever makes them happy. AK is going to banish us for not keeping our "G" rating.
I miss it at Cherry Grove so much, my last retreat from the city to head there was last summer. A shame about that one building burning, it had one of my favorite sights there: this billboard sign that just had "Nope" on it. 😂😥
I was thinking of going bowling, but I feel like I am suffocating with a mask on. I have only respect for you to continue your quests and journeys in these times. Thanks, pal
How are you lost Robin? What would make you say I wanna go home? Its a summer resort. Nobody expects to live there full-time anymore than you would choose to live in East Hampton through the winter. Most don't, a few do. If you are uncomfortable around same-sex couples then that would not be your choice. That is, of course, up to you but can you allow that some find Fire Island to be just a little bit, for a little while, paradise.
Looks like a beautiful place! It's not often that you see places in America with basically not car infrastructure! I've never even seen a place with only boardwalks/walking trails like this town!
Cherry Grove is more friendly & down to earth compared to the Pines. But my favorite area of Fire Island is the Natural area of Sailors Haven & Sunken Forest. This area has the most native vegetation, namely the Pitch Pine trees, and yes they have a lot of Pine Cones! Normally the needles would be green and these trees usually tolerate salt spray but Tropical Storm Isaias was such an anamolous storm with not much rain, so the salt spray even affected normally tolerant species which means the needles turned red. Hopefully by next summer most of the trees will recover.
IT,S LIKE ANOTHER WORLD A FAIRY LAND I,VE BEEN THERE 3 TIMES IN THE 70 & 80 STAY AT THE HOTEL ANOTHER TIME I DID A SHOW OF SHIRLEY BASSEY AND JUDY GARLAND MEMORIES THE WAY I WAS
@29:00 "if it's nighttime I wouldn't want to be out here it is just wilderness" LOL do you have any idea what happens along that path and in the bushes at night? (and daytime) This is why Fire Island is so popular with a certain demographic.
Oh gosh, NO! You are not suggesting that men are "in flagrante delicto" are you? Parish the thought!. A fun thought. Believe it or not, what you alluded is not actually very common. There are always a few off-islanders who go crazy but that is not the norm. Too bad.
Longer than that. Thirty minutes via Long Island Railroad from Jamaica Station to Sayville, then a mile or so to the ferry. If a ferry leaves right away after boarding another 30 minutes to Fire Island. Not bad but 30 minutes would be a squeeze.
@Runner Girl As a card carrying gay, I have to agree with you Runner. AK is entitled to his privacy just as is everyone else. He is a throughly decent, considerate and caring human being. That is more than most and why he is so universally liked. Oh, there have been one of two trolls but we ignore them, don't we.
@Runner Girl Now you have flummoxed me. AK took a good, I would say excellent walk on Fire Island. Gay isn't contagious. What's the worry? You said he should stick with what he's good at? I thought that was walking.
@Runner Girl I agree with you to a certain extent and have grown to like you. That is not due to your having lived with two gay friends of whom you were fond. The thing is until NYC gets a little bit more back to normality as I'm confident it will once we have a vaccine (which looks to be soon) the town just doesn't look or film the same. I am loyal to AK, however, and will continue to watch regardless. I'm beginning to think that your mild objections are based upon wanting to protect AK and I can understand that. You don't want anything untoward to happen to him. I feel fairly certain that AK is confident and secure in who he is and will not be unduly influenced by anything that he does not want to be influenced by. I hope that makes you feel better and am touched by your thoughtful concern of AK. God bless you.
What??? $21.00 for, you were nice...hash browns?? SORRY..., those "potatoes" once frozen clumps of, God knows what...were NOT hash browns!! Not lovely looking toast, either! I am shocked! You were ripped off! Charge $50.00, if you have to, but For Heaven's Sake make the guy a decent breakfast!!! Do they not know how to cook there either? Action kid! Do not eat food like that please stay healthy! PS that's not what fried potatoes with hash looks like!
Chill Kathleen - what do you mean "Do they not know how to cook there either?" Yes, they know how to cook, AK chose that restaurant and later said had he looked around he might have made a better choice. I have a couple of questions for you? Have you ever been to the Shore? Moreover, everything there has to be brought in on one of the ferry's. Pls clutch your pearls. Most of the entertaining is done within the individual homes not in public. Finally, when you say "do they not know how to cook there either?" I am temped to say yes they also know how to socialize, get together and have a good time. Good times sometimes also involve sexual experiences between and/or among consenting adults. Obviously, this place is not your vibe but please do not attempt to make snarky remarks just because it may not be your teacup, yes? BTW I am extremely healthy at my ideal body weight and I love to have tater tots on occasion. I would hope that your disparaging remarks were based upon your concerns for AK eating an healthy diet and not some other prejudicial unrelated thing. You drew the weirdest inferences from this video and made a strange off-putting remark. AK was enjoying himself exploring something new. Pls don't rain on his or anyone else's parade. Take care and have a good day.

I watch these during the winter months when I am homesick for my Cherry Grove. It is one of the most incredible places on the planet.
You should move there then
This was great! I am sitting in the hot desert, enjoying a walk through Fire Island! I appreciate these videos, thanks!!

Spot-on brother.
Hello ACTIONKID I am going to use your walk off Fire island at Cherry Grove as a moving screen saver so relaxing 😊 thanks you
Awesome!
Thru youtube I can get to visit interesting places like these. Thanks AK
All the work that's gone into making those boardwalks! ✌️✌️

I walked the Sunken Forest Nature Trail on Fire Island years ago. Pretty amazing!
Action Kid you set the bar high for the rest of the walkers . You be everywhere and you drink pool water. Lol . Action kid for president 🎥

Definitely need a source of light at night. You know that flashlight has two meanings within the gay community, yes?

Fantastic walk, so nice and beautiful area! So relaxing & fun to watch the beach is lovely =)
OMG, its sooo beautiful there.
Thanks for sharing this place wanna visit that place

Cherry Grove and The Pines are all boardwalk. No cars. I miss dancing at The Pavilion.
It really does seem like a maze, but a linear one!
Looks like a nice place...
I was thinking of going bowling, but I feel like I am suffocating with a mask on. I have only respect for you to continue your quests and journeys in these times. Thanks, pal
very nice, what a nice place, so different
This is unique and beautiful but I’m lost and I wanna go home. Take us back to the streets now AK.😉❣️

It's a beautiful place!

I'd love to see what this place looks like in winter.
Very few, if any stay the winter. I am almost tempted to say nobody stays the winter. Does anyone else know the answer to that question?
@@josfitz Yes some people do spend the winter in CG and FIP. very few but they are out there. Its like living on the moon.
Wow!! For $21 for eggs and toast. I would have brought, nice cheese, French bread and a bottle of wine.
Thanks for showing the beach. Always wanted to go. But no restrooms, no shower to rinse off, no life guard 😔
Nice Beach 🏖 take care!

That “Face Mask Required” sign to walk outside seems really hysterical in retrospect given what we all know now.
