Dear god, they could've let us play as Balan, and we would've loved it! Balan is more a background character, which 1: His name is in the game and 2: He seems like a lovely guy to be around.
You can have a protagonist who isn't the point-of-view character. Plenty of series do it. Not that it justifies this game.
@@KirbyLinkACW It’s more like dangling a treat in front of a dog. They make us interested in this character by making him so extravagant, like “Wow, I wonder what he can do! I can’t wait to play as him!” Come to find out that no, you don’t play as him, and he doesn’t even get half the screentime, not including the Balan Bout QTEs.
At least in NiGHTS, you could actually PLAY as Nights.
He’s what the world needs
It took a third watch to notice that even when only Balan is in the shot, the background alternates between both places. When it's blue and without lights, it's where the girl is, and when it's orange and with candles lit, it's where the boy is.
Really enjoy this kind of storytelling, and I like how they managed to seamlessly show what's happening in two places at the same time, and how Balan is the only constant.
I like to think Balan knew he was getting company at two different times of day, and doesn't do repeat performances. So he warped the flow of time in his theater to sync up the moments in the day when the two children would enter his domain, merging the two into a state of quantum uncertainty. Whereupon he could talk to, and perform for the both of them at the same time.
I think that would explain how the two are able to magically sync up and combine suit powers in Co-Op mode, but at that point I'm just reaching...

Frankly, after a year like _this_ one, I think we could _all_ stand to spend 2021 with Balan. That vibrant cheer and charm is just what the doctor ordered.

The song and dance is totally inspired by the Friend Like Me part in Aladdin, right down to some of the imagery and the melody. Even Balan reminds me of Genie with some of Robin Williams's antics. Definitely my most highly anticipated game!
Also reminds of Dr. Facilier and his «Friends on the Other Side».
I was about to make the same comparison to Robin Williams's Friend Like Me.

Yeah but...this part in Aladdin was really MORE wild and spectacular than Balan Wonderworld Intro, in the aladdin part with the genie, he present himself and offer more than just minute of a show, i don't ask Balan to present themself, but just to be More Spectacular and Wild, because...just one~ minute of a show is not really convincing me, for the grandiose personality of Balan, it's not really impacting but there is somet things that i like, the music the athmosphere, but i have just this problem this is not enough, but, hey, it's just the Demo so, many things will change,etc so...i hope there will be more sensational discoveries

I'm just super happy the game has a CG cinematic opening! It just feels like it's super rare for games to have these days, like I get it: people enjoy gameplay over the cinematics but it's nice to have a little something that helps immerse you into the game world before you start. Makes me think of the old Sonic games or Old Dreamcast/Gamecube games in general.
It's a Square Enix game.
Having a CG cinematic is an essential ingredient.

Also i think this character will be good for Square, To my knowing Square enix never had a character that gave out this energy and fun vibe before.
HUGE NIGHTS energy radiating from this. The animation also reminds me of the stuff Sonic Team were doing for Sonic Unleashed between the in-game cutscenes and the Night of the Werehog short, I love it. Very excited for this.

@@sealover7134 Thank you so much! Your comment really means a lot to me. I love writing poems in my spare time and this is honestly the first one that I've ever written about a video game. I just instantly fell in love with Balan Wonderworld when it was first revealed and since then I've seen many gorgeous drawings and crafts on the official Twitter page. Because I'm not really talented in anything else but still wanted to share something with the community I decided on writing a poem and post it beneath one of my new favourite intro cutscenes. 2) Idk. I went in just looking for an escape and i guess i found something. There’s an 8-9/10 somewhere in here, but its obscured by the guy who though big the cat, sonic being kissed by a human, and scrapping the fluid movement in sa1 and 2 and not continuing to polish them in favor of shth’s impersonation of physics were good ideas, and the avengers 2020 fiasco.
3) I absolutely refuse to let these amazing character designs go to waste. To think, if this bombs hard enough, we wont even get *MEMES* let alone a modding community to improve the game like Sonic forces.
3.5) I admit this is gonna sound weird, but when Yooka Laylee came out, I was thrilled we had a new banjo kazooie game. Sure, its diet banjo kinda like the gba one, but the more I just let myself have fun with it the more I got into it, not sure how successful that tactic will be this time around come release.
4) We’re still getting a novel adaption and, like sonic’s upcoming 30th, a badass 💿. Kinda softens the hurt.
this looks like the kind of game review sites wouldn't dare praise simply because it's not another shooter or doesn't have the nintendo seal of approval. I'm getting this.

@@delaneyelekes8660 Honestly I feel there is a stronger, more cohesive way to do what they were trying to in JOD. As for the story.... I think it's going to be serviceable, maybe it is going to get really interesting towards the end with some touching points about positivity and negativity in life.

Though, what I liked most about JOD's writing was that each world was meant to symbolize a part of the character you're playing as and their struggles, which gave a lot of the worlds meaning. From what it sounds like, Balan Wonderworld wants to do something similar.

If I were to helm nights 3, I'd still do the mission based gameplay while retaining the arcade-like replayability, but instead of being like "Get through the maze without Nights!" "Make the Biggest Ball of water!" "Get a link of 30!"
There'd be much more of a.... how would I put this.... A super mario 64-ish feel to it. Yea, it'd still be Nights, but level progression would feel like sm64/sunshine/galaxy/a hat in time.
Picture this, the visitor(s) have been kidnapped and must escape like in that one part. Would you rather play:: A, a chase on foot where they're slow as molasses and can only use chips to defend themselve, or B, A rhythm-like minigame styled like the sky concert level, or the music levels from rayman legends, taking advantage of the fact that, oh, they’re in a dream world?
Don't know what I'd do about the plot though. Maybe I'd write it so each cutscene would be more fun and to the point, character-based instead of exposition based.
NiGHTS was a huge part of my childhood and I'm so /so/ glad it's getting a spiritual successor.
NiGHTS was one of those games I always found a lot of comfort in; something about the feeling of being able to fly while enjoying imaginative and beautiful environments full of colorful characters- it was relieving as much as it was fun, and it helped me destress as a young kid that didn't have the most stable of home lives. Being able to come home from school and turn on the console and get lost in a cartoonish, fun world was always something that brightened my day.
I really hope Balan Wonderworld gets to express the same sort of charm!
Also I love the tower-shot homage at the start of the opening. That was a nice touch.

The fact there are still people here swooning over how amazing this cutscene and Balan's design are is just a testament to the fanbase this game *could* have had. It's not like people were cursing this game to failure, everyone wanted to love it. Hell, I *still* want to love it.

It was also already stated there won't be any spoken dialogue (so guessing they mean Real spoken dialogue, And it's just gonna be the characters making reactions & maybe say a few words in that made-up language)

Today is that game's anniversary. I'm one of the ones that liked it. Not sure why people hated it over stupid bugs and a flashing lights even though there are no seizure. But I think something is a bit off with those flashing lights. I know a friend that knows that if the lights are flashing white. Then, there trying to hypnotise you to go to the opening cutscene for whatever reason. I'm sure if it's true or not so i'm going to test it out.

It feels like they're setting Balan up to be the villain, but he just seems so god damn nice.
Oh, no, that ain't it at all. You actually meet someone FAR more threatening than him in the demo, and I think THAT could be your villain.
The antagonists name is Lance. Balan and Lance make Balance. The balance between tranquility and chaos.
Tranquillity: Balan.
Chaos: Lance.
Balan has more of a Mad Hatter, Alastor, and Genie side to him while Lance has more of a Sephiroth, Devil, and Yami vibe.
(Mad Hatter: Alice in Wonderland.
Alastor: Hazbin Hotel.
Genie: Aladdin.
Sephiroth: FF7.
Devil: Cuphead.
Yami: Ōkami.

Man I am so greatful that we still get amazing unique hype as heck games in the sea full of mediocore algorithmic games of today.

Balan strikes me as an antithesis to Alastor from Hazbin Hotel. he seems to have the same level of magical skill and definitely the same energetic personality; though he seems to be all about helping kids live out their dreams, without the demonic strings attached. a magical battle between the two would be EPIC!!

Okay, so the myth about the flashing lights hypnotising you has been confirmed but I'm having nightmares about this girl with a long jaw, clawing me to death. Well if your wondering what happened when I tested this I can't remember. All I remember was that one shot, It was like 1:29 but Balan, he's dead. That girl is just staring into my soul. Everyone is thinking that I was insane if I tell them that story.

@@kellyscorner1319 The target demographic is literally people who like platformer games like Super Mario, Banjo Kazooie, Ratchet & Clank, and etc. And yet, the target demographic still hates it.
@@Drakonus_ What about the kids? Puerta al Sotano stated it was for younger audience and some plataform lovers. In fact, just because tje gameplay, the game got bad reviews, what about the music, cutscenes and all that? It could have been a 5/6 buuut noooo... Or is a 8/9 master piece or is a sheet. Why people always look to point the worst of everything? And yet, many of the customers that bought the game still liked it and or fell in love with it. Have you seen the growing fanbase? It is the people that wants to enjoy, have fun and pass the time.

Okay this CG opening alone looks amazing, The whole scene reminds me of "Never had a friend like me" from aladdin (the original, not the so called live action reboot) and i can't wait to see more gameplay! keep up the good work, Yuji Naka!

When I saw some of the footage of the cutscenes from this game, I was sold and looking forward to the day the demo can out on the Switch, but don't let the beautiful cutscenes fool, the demo was the first big let down for me this, the game graphics looked below average, the powerups made no scenes, luke you can't jump normally, and the plot was non-existent, which is sad, because the themes and the ideas in the game are so good but are held down by many bad choices, soSquare Enix better delay this game and pull their act together if they want this game to do well if you ask this simple viewer, this has been my Ted Talk, and SE, YOU BETTER NOT SCREW THIS UP
Delaying the game would do nothing to fix it, they'd have to scrap everything and start from scratch.

Looking back at these comments really hurts my heart knowing the cluster this game really is. A damn shame too, given proper treatment this game could have truly been a masterpiece, especially Balan. I love his creative design and personality, he could’ve been so much more and possibly even a household name to the likes of Mario and Zelda, a prophecy I can only pray that given time and lots of improvement can be fulfilled. I hope the developers pull it from store shelves, allow refunds, and rework it to desired levels and give the game itself the attention it deserves instead of pulling a Sonic ‘06 by spending more on the cutscenes than the overall gameplay. I want to see Balan thrive as a character in the video game universe and not be discarded like so many others. I am not defending the gameplay, it’s absolutely atrocious and should not have been accepted as the final product, but it should be improved on and I will give my full support

Does this scene remind anyone else of "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin? The jazzy music, the surreal and shifting scenes... I wouldn't be surprised at all if they used that scene from Aladdin for inspiration.
