  • In this video I walk you through how to remove your stock struts, and replace them with aftermarket coilovers.
    I take you through every step of both front and rear, so the video is a little bit longer than usual.

    Thanks for the video! I followed this as a guide to do my suspension on my '96 TT car. Three things that I ran into that might help people following this:
    1) If you unbolt the sway bar, the assembly will drop down low enough so you can avoid using spring compressors on the OEM strut.
    2) On my car's JDM passenger side (US driver side) there is the washer fluid tank sitting in the way of the upper control arm bolt from moving forward. The tank needs a bolt removed and swung out of the way.
    3) I'd suggest using a torque wrench and tightening all the bolts to spec (with a jack on the suspension simulating load). These may not be 100% correct (off memory), so please do your research:
    -Shock to control arm (front & rear): 101 lf/lb
    -Large upper control arm bolt: 130lf/lb
    -Sway bar: 56 lf/lb
    -Upper strut (in engine bay and rear in-car): 36 lf/lb

    this vid really helped me put my stock shocks back on (cuz coilovers SUCK for ride quality). just one thing.... that 'just slide that pin back in'.... nope. 10 minutes to replace the shock.... 30 to find the hole :) thanks for the video. it was fantastic.

      We Riide they’re WAY better than the crap I had on there, I always thought I had an OEM suspension till last week when I changed them. I left them at the settings they came with and they’re awesome. Ride height is perfect and they’re really really smooth (they come set at 50% on the dampening). I’d definitely like to compare them to other stuff for reference but the supra guys I know seem to really like them! Hipermax has my vote now!

      Andork Kuomo pretty much identical, the fronts will be a little easier since the reservoir won’t be in the way, and the rear is a little trickier to get to the top hat with bracing in the way, but still pretty cut and dry :)

    Nice video. Ive replaced rears on mine at different times as they started leaking. First time I got the shocker out without the spring compressor, just about. Had to really push down on the hub. Was awkward as I didn't have enough hands to push down and lift shocker out. When the other side went I used a spring compressor, it gave me just abit more room to get it out without straining to much. Can be done either way but I found with the compressor it made it easier. What kind of ride height are you running? Is the front lower than the rear? Would really like some adjustable coilovers. Did it take a while to get ride height right?

    • @WeRiide
      @WeRiide  6 лет назад

      Yeah the compressor seemed to help it come out easier, or at least gave me a little more room. I was running pretty low with the 18" wheels that were on the car, but now that we have put the 19" wheels on we had to raise all 4 corners up about 1/2 an inch. The rears were always riding a little higher than the front. But adjusting them to the right height actually wasn't too bad. Put the car all the way down, measured how much I wanted to adjust up or down, lift it back up and use the spanner wrenches to adjust that amount and you are basically done. Just make sure you measure exactly how much you want to adjust :)

      Honestly, Amanda is using the Tein on hers, and for a very affordable setup, they work REALLY well! Otherwise the Old school Megans(not their new ones), KW, Fortune, HKS or Cusco are the ones I've had experience with and have loved all of them! You can't go wrong with those. Other brands I don't have much personal experience so I couldn't speak on those much :/ Have you found any you like?

      Cosmick Flames honestly, the aired out look isn't my style, but I have nothing bad to say about it. in fact, I was sooo close to buying Fortunes new air piston coilovers! what I liked about those is you are riding on their 500 series coilovers, but if you needed to go up a curb bump or dip, they raise you up 2 inches. so they only raise up, then back down on the coilovers :) they won't slam you down on your frame. I do have a couple friends that LOVE bags though!

      Liam Griffin they are actually the old school Megans, so they are built well. the new ones I've heard aren't as good, but these things are amazing, don't knock them because of their affordability. The shop I bought our 97 from sold an r35 with Megan's on it, the guy that bought it said he was disgusted that they had Megan's so he had the shop change them out to an expensive brand, 2 weeks later the gtr owner came back and asked for the Megan's to be put back on 😂😂 but that is the old model, I can't speak for the new ones:)
